What makes Vienna the world's most liveable city?

The Austrian capital ranks highly for stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

00:00What would a city have to offer to be regarded as the most liveable in the world?

00:06Vienna has been ranked as the most liveable city according to an annual index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit,

00:13a sister company of British publication The Economist.

00:19This is the third year in a row that Vienna has been named the most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit,

00:25taking into account many considerations falling into five categories of education, environment, healthcare, infrastructure and culture.

00:33The ranking compared 173 cities, rating a total of 30 factors from 0 to 100.

00:39When we talk about Mercer or even the Economist Intelligence Unit,

00:43I think these studies or these rankings are very comprehensively looking into factors such as the availability of green space

00:53or public transportation or the infrastructure in general.

00:58And I think as someone who lives here, Vienna ticks many boxes here

01:03and really is a very liveable city, a city that just works very well.

01:08Vienna perfectly combines northern European efficiency and southern European lifestyle.

01:14And this lifestyle involves a very high degree of enjoyment.

01:19It's not so much a matter of what you can do here in the city, it's more a matter of what you want to do.

01:25For residents, public transport is a big advantage, whilst the costs of groceries are seen as too expensive to some.

01:34It sounds simple, but I think the transit system actually is a really important part of it,

01:40because it's really easy to get around.

01:46You can get basically anywhere from point A to point B within 30 minutes.

01:51Pastries are quite expensive, but it's not a primal need in life.

01:59Food is quite expensive, that's the only thing that is kind of sad.

02:03And Vienna could do better.

02:06But I'd say the best part is that you can just go out and stay out.

02:13And it's safe and it's reachable.

02:16Followed by Denmark and Switzerland, Vienna enjoys another year as the world's most liveable city.
