Price of Huawei's new tri-fold smartphone steep for some, justified for others
Beijing residents on Tuesday, September 10, expressed mixed views on Huawei Technologies’ latest unveiling of a $2,800 tri-foldable phone that is the world’s first, in which users can fold three ways like an accordion screen door.
Tech enthusiasts packed Beijing’s Huawei flagship store as the latest Mate XT model was brought out to much anticipation from customers before being put in glass displays.
China’s Huawei is now seeking to extend its lead in the world’s biggest smartphone market and steal the spotlight from Apple, hours after it debuted a new iPhone.
The device has already received more than four million pre-orders, for which no deposit is required, according to the company's website. The entire global market for foldable phones was around 4 million units in the second quarter, according to research firm IDC.
