00:00Nothing could prepare a father for this discovery.
00:05He found his two young boys dead in their Falcon Bridge home with stab wounds.
00:10This is about as tragic as it gets for any police veteran,
00:14any emergency services that would turn up there.
00:17It's a very tragic scene and, you know, the Blue Mountains
00:20is a very peaceful, community-minded environment,
00:24so they would be genuinely shocked.
00:28Their 42-year-old mother was taken to Westmead Hospital
00:31under police guard with self-inflicted wounds.
00:35She has been arrested.
00:37Police are not looking for any other persons
00:41and a thorough investigation is under way.
00:45Police say she was known to them, but for minor matters.
00:49As a heavy police presence took over this narrow street,
00:52neighbours came home to tragedy.
00:55When you hear it on the news, you don't really ever think
00:58that it's going to be literally down the road from you.
01:01A school bus was moved along by police to avoid the crime scene.
01:06I am in total shock.
01:08I actually cannot believe that this has happened in our neighbourhood,
01:11let alone my street.
01:13I used to see those boys riding around here on their bikes, you know.
01:17It's really sad.
01:19The deaths of these two boys means there have now been six children
01:22killed in suspected family violence incidents in New South Wales
01:25in just the past four months.
01:28Unfortunately, this command has had its fair share
01:31of awful and tragic matters over the recent weeks, months.
01:36Things like this still cut to the core,
01:39and what is not lost on me is that we've got officers here
01:43that have got children this age.
01:45Officers facing yet another challenging investigation
01:49into family violence.
