After having her statement recorded by the police on Tuesday (Sept 10), Seputeh MP Teresa Kok told reporters that her remarks on the proposed halal certification were specifically addressing the nature of the proposal.
“I did not question halal certification, Jakim’s role, or disrespect Islam,” she said.

00:00What is your response to the Prime Minister's statement on 8 September?
00:11I would like to emphasize what I said in my statement on 8 September.
00:19In my original statement on 6 September, there was a response to the Prime Minister's statement
00:30at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Naeem Mokhtar,
00:35which obliges restaurants that do not sell pork and alcohol to put a ban on Halal.
00:44In my statement, there was a response to the suggestion to impose a ban on Halal.
00:51I would also like to emphasize that I have never opposed the ban on Halal.
00:57And also, since I have been in the Kingdom of Selangor,
01:03promoting investment to Malaysia, to Selangor,
01:06I have always promoted the ban on Halal in Malaysia.
01:10Because of what I said to the investors,
01:15the ban on Halal in Malaysia is the highest standard in the world.
01:21So if they want to import anything,
01:25or if they want to get a ban on Halal to sell to other Muslim countries,
01:30they have to come to Malaysia, invest in Malaysia,
01:34get a ban on Halal, and then from Malaysia,
01:37they can export their products to other countries in the Middle East.
01:42This is my position as a Member of Parliament,
01:47and also as a former Secretary-General of Selangor and Cabinet Minister.
01:53For me, I have a responsibility to promote,
01:59to raise the voice of the people.
02:04And that is why I asked the government to review the ban that Tatok Muhammad raised.
02:12This is my objective, my statement.
02:17I do not question the Halal law,
02:21the validity of the law, or disrespect the religion of Islam.
02:26So today, I fully cooperate with the PDRM.
02:33I hope that after this,
02:35this issue will be resolved,
02:41because there are many parties who have expressed their views.
