00:00It is expected that the service of the Mino-Yaquino International Airport will be better.
00:05Now, the rehabilitation will start.
00:08Kleyzal Pardilla has more.
00:13They say that the best therapy is a change of scenery.
00:17But what if you see a flowing river at the airport?
00:22It will overflow from the seats.
00:24Or you won't be able to sit.
00:27Or you will experience a brownout.
00:30Those problems at the Mino-Yaquino International Airport
00:34will not be solved again.
00:37Since September 14,
00:40the rehabilitation of NIA will start
00:43under the Public-Private Partnership.
00:46The target is to make the airport world-class,
00:49modern, and attractive to tourists and investors.
00:54In the first year of rehabilitation,
00:56NIA Infrastructure Corporation will increase
01:00the setting capacity of the terminals.
01:03They will fix the facilities and add aircon,
01:07generator set, and backrests.
01:10The X-ray machine will be upgraded.
01:12Elevators will be assembled.
01:14And the internet speed at the airport will be increased.
01:17What the passengers will be feeling will be actual.
01:21It will not be purely aesthetic.
01:24That's why there will be significant investments in technology.
01:28In the next 4 to 5 years,
01:31NIA will increase the capacity to 62 million
01:35from the current 35 million per year.
01:39The runway efficiency will increase from 48 to 40
01:44or the departure and landing of airplanes per hour.
01:48A new terminal will be built at Terminal 2.
01:52The passenger processing system will be improved
01:55such as check-in, bag drop, and biometrics
01:59to speed up the process of passengers' departure.
02:03Due to these changes,
02:05the added cost of flights will increase.
02:08From P500, the passenger terminal fee
02:12will increase to P950.
02:15In the last two thousand flights,
02:17the number of passengers will increase.
02:19That's why GAT Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista
02:22is waiting for the right time to change this.
02:25The improvements and developments of NIA are slow
02:29because of the lack of funds.
02:32Maybe it's about time that our fees
02:37will be the same as the fees of other countries.
02:42According to the Department of Tourism,
02:44the rehabilitation of NIA is important
02:47to meet the target of making the Philippines a tourism powerhouse.
02:52This is something that we are looking forward to
02:55as the NIA starts its transformation process.
02:59The industry is very optimistic
03:02that this airport PPP will improve the image of the Philippines
03:06and with the modernization of the airport
03:09and attention to be given to the overall visitor experience.
03:12The DOTR considers that the concession agreement
03:17between the government and the new sector
03:20has been fulfilled under the administration
03:23of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
03:25The rehabilitation contract of San Miguel Corporation
03:29and the government is worth P170 billion pesos.
03:33The government expects to earn P900 billion pesos from this.
03:39This is on record the fastest PPP project
03:44concluded just after eight months.
03:47The project was procured through an open,
03:51transparent and competitive bidding.
03:54NIA's rehabilitation is not just a credit to President Marcos Jr.,
04:00but should also be hailed historic,
04:03deserving prominent mention in Philippine commercial aviation history.
