00:00:00I'm not the damsel in distress.
00:00:05I'm not your girlfriend or the frightened princess.
00:00:09Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the greatest 100 baddies in the history of television.
00:00:16We're focusing on explicit villainy. Sorry, no anti-heroes.
00:00:21There are many spoilers ahead.
00:00:23I am the one who knocks.
00:00:27Number 100, The One-Armed Man, The Fugitive.
00:00:36The Fugitive was one of the earliest attempts at serialized storytelling in television history.
00:00:42Though each episode saw Richard Kimball on a new adventure, there was always an underlying thread he attempted to pull.
00:00:48Finding the One-Armed Man.
00:00:50As the elusive figure who murdered Dr. Richard Kimball's wife, he is the living representation of the show's injustice.
00:00:57For most of the show, his presence is implied.
00:01:00I've done everything humanly possible to find him.
00:01:07I think you have. I wonder why.
00:01:10It takes 14 episodes to even get a glimpse of him.
00:01:13Always using fake identities to stay one step ahead, he's a ghost serving as Dr. Kimball's dark mirror.
00:01:19He may be more MacGuffin than character, but his absence adds to the suspense.
00:01:24Yeah, I killed her. Now I'm gonna kill you.
00:01:27Won't have to worry about you again, no more.
00:01:34Number 99, Oh Il-nam, Squid Game.
00:01:49You did that for fun?
00:01:54Oh Il-nam is everything you want in an iconic TV villain.
00:01:58Deep emotional investment, shocking betrayals, and sinister motivations.
00:02:02When we first meet Oh Il-nam, he is Contestant One, a frail, kind-hearted man.
00:02:08While some of that undoubtedly is true, Il-nam is also secretly the mastermind behind the deadly games.
00:02:14He is a master of deceit, able to mask his true nature while manipulating the lives of everyone around him.
00:02:20A rich tycoon, Il-nam grew bored of his luxurious life.
00:02:24He joined the games as a contestant to fill his final days with some excitement and fun.
00:02:29He justifies the brutal games as a means to entertain the rich and expose human desperation.
00:02:44Number 98, Wile E. Coyote, The Looney Tunes Franchise.
00:03:04Wile E. Coyote is the living embodiment of relentless obsession.
00:03:07Dedicated to eradicating the roadrunner, Wile E. Coyote is a master of brilliant over-the-top schemes.
00:03:14Unlike traditional villains, Wile E.'s appeal lies in his unceasing failure.
00:03:19Often, his schemes should work, but are ultimately defeated by the whims of his writers as they bend the universe against him.
00:03:26His determination and resilience, despite endless setbacks, are oddly sympathetic to a murderous baddie.
00:03:44His acme gadgets and silent expressiveness give a fun spin to a simple classic chase formula.
00:03:49Wile E.'s failures have provided timeless laughs across generations.
00:03:54Number 97, Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, Gotham.
00:04:05When we first meet Oswald Cobblepot, he is a low-level criminal whose lofty ambitions have set him up for failure.
00:04:12His bosses have marked Oz for death and send police lieutenant Jim Gordon as the trigger man.
00:04:17Gordon's mercy set Oswald on the path to becoming one of the greatest bad guys in TV history.
00:04:22Oswald Cobblepot's growth arc in Gotham showcases his transformation from a lowly, underestimated lackey to a feared criminal mastermind, The Penguin.
00:04:39Dismissed by others, Oswald's cunning, ambition, and ruthless will to survive propel him up the ranks of the underworld.
00:04:46His evolution is marked by a litany of betrayals amidst a relentless pursuit of power.
00:04:51His charm and wit get Oswald through when lesser men would have crumbled.
00:05:06Number 96, Sue Sylvester, Glee.
00:05:09When Glee first premiered in the fall of 2009, nobody could have predicted the instant popularity of its villain, Sue Sylvester.
00:05:22Her larger-than-life personality is second only to her absurdly relentless antagonism towards the Glee Club.
00:05:28As the cheerleading coach, Sue uses the archetypal bad guy characteristics to brilliantly comedic effect.
00:05:35She is utterly unapologetic, and her savage takedowns of the Glee Club on her quest for high school dominance are as ridiculous as the conceit of suddenly breaking into song.
00:05:54Sue is a master of psychological warfare, wielding a rapier wit and biting sarcasm to defeat her enemies,
00:06:00who, again, are just normal high school students just living their lives.
00:06:04But for all her savagery, Sue is also known for the occasional moment of human vulnerability.
00:06:24One of the greatest parts of The Handmaid's Tale is the deep dive into the many different faces of authoritarianism.
00:06:30As June quickly learns, few of those faces is worse or more terrifying than that of the collaborator.
00:06:42Aunt Lydia is the blunt instrument, the tool that a fascist regime uses to break down her fellow women.
00:06:48Lydia is brutal and efficient as she disciplines the handmaids.
00:06:52Her twisted religious zeal shines brightly in her eyes as she makes others suffer.
00:07:01Lydia is a true believer in the regime's laws and merciless treatment of women.
00:07:08As the story progresses, she's fleshed out as a full-fledged person.
00:07:12We see glimpses of vulnerability and conflict within her, making it all the worse when the savagery wins out.
00:07:31The McPoyles are some of a family of bonkers baddies, one of the worst to ever curse a TV comedy.
00:07:38They're a clan of deeply upsetting lunatics who are frequently at odds with the crew from Paddy's.
00:07:43Inbred and hilariously unhinged, the McPoyles family brings chaos whenever they appear.
00:07:49So, you guys are gonna dig a hole straight through the wall to the next building.
00:07:52We're gonna go to the roof and escape by helicopter.
00:07:55Son of a bitch!
00:07:56Here's how it's gonna work.
00:07:57They have a nauseatingly creepy obsession with milk, and with each other.
00:08:02When a McPoyle shows up, it's usually to fulfill some weird vendetta against the gang.
00:08:07Not even the drinks at Paddy's can slake the McPoyles' thirst for revenge.
00:08:11They are grotesque, unpredictable, and guaranteed to steal the show.
00:08:16You can't look away from the McPoyles.
00:08:18They can turn even the most mundane situations into a living nightmare.
00:08:22What the hell is happening?
00:08:24What is going on here?
00:08:25Are they screwing with us?
00:08:26Where are the cops?
00:08:27Ha ha! Revenge! We got you, suckers!
00:08:30Double misses on the McPoyles!
00:08:35Number 93, Slade, Teen Titans
00:08:38Betrayal, destruction, revenge. We really do think alike.
00:08:43In the comics, Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, is a deadly assassin,
00:08:48frequently at odds with the greatest of DC's other heroes and villains.
00:08:52His role in Teen Titans also cemented him as a vile, cunning sociopath.
00:08:57Introduced as the Titans' main antagonist,
00:08:59Slade is a master manipulator who orchestrates events from the shadows.
00:09:03He is constantly testing the Titans' strength and unity,
00:09:06cataloging their weaknesses like the world's most evil anthropologist.
00:09:10Your friends won't find the generators, and they can't see me.
00:09:14They can't see the truth, Robin, even when it's right in front of them.
00:09:19He's obsessed with breaking Robin away from the team,
00:09:22eventually taking the boy wonder on as an apprentice.
00:09:25Even when Robin defeats him, Slade is a constant presence haunting the team.
00:09:30This portrayal of Deathstroke is also one of his most menacing.
00:09:34I'm real enough to finish you!
00:09:37Lights out, Slade.
00:09:39Number 92, Aemond Targaryen, House of the Dragon.
00:09:43He dares to summon me with haste.
00:09:48For years, we have collectively learned that the universe created by George R.R. Martin
00:09:54is an ugly, savage place.
00:09:56Nobody gets through it with their lives or souls left unscathed.
00:10:00In a world like that, Aemond never even had a chance.
00:10:03Born into the Targaryen dynasty,
00:10:05Aemond's early life is marked by insecurity and constant rivalry.
00:10:09He learned a hard lesson at a tender age,
00:10:12losing an eye during a confrontation with his nephews.
00:10:20This trauma became fuel for his growing bitterness and lust for vengeance.
00:10:24As he grows older, Aemond embraces his role as a fearsome warrior,
00:10:28riding the formidable dragon Vhagar into battle.
00:10:32Aemond is cold and calculating,
00:10:34more than willing to commit the most heinous acts at the drop of a hat.
00:10:44Number 91, Darth Maul, Star Wars The Clone Wars.
00:10:48She knows too much. Destroy her.
00:10:56Darth Maul was a Sith so badass that he survived getting cut in half,
00:11:00seemingly out of pure spite.
00:11:02Fans of the animated show were introduced
00:11:04to a deep dive into the Star Wars universe
00:11:06and characters like Anakin's apprentice Ahsoka.
00:11:09In addition to new characters and arcs,
00:11:11The Clone Wars resurrected Obi-Wan's nemesis
00:11:14and erstwhile Sith Lord Darth Maul.
00:11:16Maul's path was a circuitous one,
00:11:18going from a man left for dead to a Mandalorian conqueror.
00:11:22Reborn son of Dathomir.
00:11:28Brother.
00:11:36Maul would finally meet his ultimate fate
00:11:38in the show's sequel series Rebels.
00:11:40Deep in the desert of Tatooine,
00:11:42Maul would come face-to-face with his old enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi
00:11:45for one last fight.
00:11:47You have a purpose here.
00:11:49Perhaps you are protecting something?
00:11:53No.
00:11:55Protecting someone.
00:12:03I've come to help. I'm the Doctor.
00:12:11Impossible.
00:12:16At first blush,
00:12:17a Dalek doesn't appear to be a particularly dangerous menace.
00:12:20It resembles nothing more than a mobile garbage can.
00:12:23But don't let their looks fool you.
00:12:25Doctor Who fans out there know better.
00:12:27This cybernetic race was created by a bad scientist
00:12:30in a war-torn world to hunt down the Doctor and his people.
00:12:33Engineered to be emotionless, ruthless killing machines,
00:12:36Daleks are encased in nearly indestructible armor.
00:12:39And you are the Doctor.
00:12:41Oh, damn it.
00:12:42All activated.
00:12:45Testimony accepted.
00:12:47Testimony accepted.
00:12:50Their racial supremacy has them bent on universal domination
00:12:53and destruction of all other forms of life.
00:12:56The Daleks are an entire race of malevolent killer garbage cans
00:13:00and have nearly done the Doctor in a time or two.
00:13:08Snow White and Prince Charming.
00:13:16You insult me.
00:13:19Doctor Leland Townsend.
00:13:20Evil.
00:13:21Nine and three quarters.
00:13:24And...
00:13:27ten.
00:13:29Ready or not,
00:13:32Miss Ling, I have your dinner.
00:13:38I gave you life.
00:13:40Purpose.
00:13:45But you've grown fat and complacent.
00:13:50Too much time in the sun.
00:13:56Shall we engage?
00:13:58No.
00:13:59I'll take care of him myself.
00:14:06We're the new owners.
00:14:08Who are you?
00:14:10I'm Constance Langdon.
00:14:12And this...
00:14:14is my f***ing house.
00:14:16Some shows peak in their first season,
00:14:18and an argument can be made that American Horror Story
00:14:21falls into that category.
00:14:23Season one Murder House introduced us to Constance Langdon,
00:14:26a sinister Southern belle.
00:14:28On the one hand, Constance's life was a Greek tragedy,
00:14:31marred by the heartbreaking loss of her children.
00:14:33Obsession with family took Constance down a dark path,
00:14:36driving her to commit horrific crimes.
00:14:39Murder, manipulation, it doesn't matter.
00:14:41People are just tools or obstacles to her.
00:14:44You need to pay for what you've done.
00:14:48Oh, I do.
00:14:52Every goddamn day.
00:14:55She is more than willing to use the murder house
00:14:57for her own supernatural ends.
00:14:59Her smiles and charms are a thin facade
00:15:02covering her bitter heart.
00:15:04And her return in season eight came as a happy surprise
00:15:06to AHS fans.
00:15:08One more time,
00:15:10you would have just slit my throat.
00:15:13Like the help.
00:15:18The wonderful convergence
00:15:20between cause and effect
00:15:22and a bit of good luck.
00:15:25Bad luck in your case, Luis.
00:15:42No!
00:15:59What's that?
00:16:00How would I know?
00:16:04They're all going to die!
00:16:06Chizuru, get down!
00:16:13I'm going to show you something.
00:16:16And after you see it,
00:16:18you're going to walk out of here
00:16:20and you're never going to be afraid
00:16:22of big teleporting aliens ever again.
00:16:26Because I'm going to set you free.
00:16:31How much longer must I suffer your indignities
00:16:34while breath gives life to my command?
00:16:37In the world of ancient Rome portrayed in Spartacus,
00:16:40political power was a weapon,
00:16:42a tool for survival.
00:16:44Few players of the political game were as capable
00:16:46or as deadly as Lucretia.
00:16:48Armed with a cunning mind and an iron will,
00:16:51she was a master manipulator,
00:16:53the power behind Batiatus,
00:16:55a slave-owning noble.
00:16:56Where Batiatus was a blunt instrument,
00:16:58using violence and sadism to bring his enemies in line,
00:17:01Lucretia used her wits.
00:17:03I know there have been tensions between us.
00:17:06Yet I see no cause for our current arrangement
00:17:09to fall into unpleasantness.
00:17:13We were such dear friends once.
00:17:15Despite her elegant exterior,
00:17:17Lucretia could be more bloodthirsty and ruthless
00:17:19than any gladiator.
00:17:21Deceit and murder were the tools of her trade,
00:17:23securing her position in a treacherous misogynist world.
00:17:31There's no need to be afraid anymore.
00:17:34He wants you to be part of this.
00:17:40Denzel Crocker, The Fairly OddParents
00:17:42It's time to do prompts of the Crocker way!
00:17:45So shake your bootays to my favorite Polka tunes,
00:17:48featuring the musical standings of yours truly on the tuba!
00:17:51It's Crocktoberfest!
00:17:52Polka's not island-themed?
00:17:54Get him, Philip.
00:18:01I will break you.
00:18:10Number 76, Angelica Pickles, Rugrats
00:18:14Didn't Daddy specifically explain to you
00:18:16about a hundred times how important his papers are?
00:18:19Yes, Daddy. I'm so sorry.
00:18:22I'll never do it again. I promise.
00:18:25Number 75, Alexis Carrington Colby Morrell Dexter Rowan, Dynasty
00:18:31How do you do it, Alexis?
00:18:34Do what?
00:18:35Remain so fresh-looking.
00:18:37After all you've been through.
00:18:39In Dynasty, residents of Denver learned one important lesson.
00:18:43Never turn your back on Alexis Carrington.
00:18:46If you do, you're likely to end up
00:18:48with a diamond-encrusted knife in your back.
00:18:50We first meet Alexis as the ex-wife of protagonist Blake Carrington,
00:18:54a wealthy oil magnate.
00:18:56Alexis enters the series with a vendetta against him,
00:18:59determined to reclaim her lost power and influence.
00:19:02Now Amanda is mine, Blake,
00:19:04and I'm not going to let you take her away from me.
00:19:06Not this child.
00:19:07I have no intention of taking her away from you.
00:19:09But if she is my daughter,
00:19:12by God, I'm going to know it.
00:19:18You'll never prove it.
00:19:20Never.
00:19:21She schemes to gain control of the Carrington family fortune,
00:19:24often using her wiles and intelligence to outmaneuver her rivals.
00:19:28Alexis' feuds and fights are iconic,
00:19:31some of the most memorable scenes of the 1980s.
00:19:34Joan Collins was magnificent,
00:19:36able to switch between icy elegance and fierce aggression with ease.
00:19:40Alexis was the personification of shameless, unadulterated ambition.
00:20:05He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
00:20:07So, He-Man, it's just you and me.
00:20:11It's not too late to call this off, Skeletor.
00:20:21Thanks for the resurrection.
00:20:24Flash!
00:20:33Well, this is it.
00:20:35I hope you're not disappointed.
00:20:43The Cylons were a sentient robotic race bent on utter annihilation of humanity.
00:20:48The series begins with a Cylon sneak attack
00:20:50where they nearly destroy humanity in one fell swoop.
00:20:53Unlike the original series,
00:20:55the 2000 Cylons were created by humans and ultimately rebelled.
00:20:59Their technology included ranks of sleeper agents embedded among humans.
00:21:03Prove it.
00:21:06If you're a Cylon, prove it to me right now.
00:21:08I don't have to.
00:21:09You know I'm telling the truth.
00:21:11You see, stating something as the truth doesn't necessarily make it so,
00:21:14because the truth of the matter is I don't believe a word of it.
00:21:18As the series went on, fans were constantly caught up in the viral speculation.
00:21:22Who is really a Cylon?
00:21:24Indistinguishable from humans,
00:21:26these sleeper agents added a new and chilling layer of paranoia and mistrust to the show.
00:21:31Some of our favorite characters ultimately turned out to be Cylons in disguise.
00:21:39Mark will suffer.
00:21:41You'll be long gone.
00:21:43But we will keep them alive.
00:21:47In pain.
00:21:49You're on.
00:21:56Don't give me that look.
00:21:57It was a f***ing horse.
00:22:00What are you, a vegetarian?
00:22:06And you are Petra?
00:22:07Yes, and I really don't need a lawyer.
00:22:12Number 66, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Phineas and Ferb.
00:22:15You see, my plan was simple.
00:22:18Assemble all the best secret agents in one room,
00:22:21and then turn them all into statues for my giant chessboard!
00:22:27Hit it!
00:22:29Number 65, John Kreese, Cobra Kai.
00:22:35You lose concentration in fighting your dead meat.
00:22:37Yes, sensei.
00:22:38What?
00:22:39Yes, sensei!
00:22:40John Kreese, originally introduced in the Karate Kid movies,
00:22:43is a martial artist whose no-mercy philosophy shaped the Cobra Kai dojo.
00:22:47As a former soldier, Kreese's harsh and aggressive tactics turn his students into vicious fighters,
00:22:52epitomized by his mentorship of Johnny Lawrence.
00:22:55His defeat in the films does not soften his nature.
00:22:58Instead, it helps to crystallize his desire for revenge.
00:23:02In Cobra Kai, Kreese returns as a more complex bad guy,
00:23:06one severely haunted by his past.
00:23:08He reclaims control of the dojo,
00:23:10reigniting old rivalries and spreading his toxic ideology to a new generation.
00:23:15You feel angry, John?
00:23:18At who?
00:23:19The people that put me in this cage.
00:23:22But you did this to yourself.
00:23:24Don't be ridiculous.
00:23:26None of it is my fault.
00:23:29I did nothing wrong.
00:23:32Kreese's ability to adapt, manipulate, and corrupt
00:23:35makes him one of television's best villains.
00:23:42You must be tired, Mr. Rossetti.
00:23:44That can make a man irritable.
00:23:46You need some rest.
00:23:47I need 500 cases of rum.
00:23:49You and your men.
00:23:51My guests at the Ritz.
00:23:52You think I can't float my own hotel room?
00:23:57Are you threatening me? Because honestly, I wouldn't.
00:24:00Then why is that?
00:24:01How come now, really?
00:24:05Because I'd be hurt and angry.
00:24:12We acknowledge that you should be admitted as full partner.
00:24:19Good.
00:24:25What are you gonna do with that?
00:24:26If you call Michael and tell him to get his ass over here, nothing.
00:24:29And if you don't...
00:24:31Hmm...
00:24:32I'm gonna burn your face so it matches the color of your hair.
00:24:41You still dream of peace with those who would destroy all mutants?
00:24:45Is this your answer?
00:24:47This horror?
00:24:49The people behind X-Men the Animated Series
00:24:51had no compunction about introducing 90s kids to heavy subjects.
00:24:55One of their favorite characters in this regard was Magneto.
00:24:58Once a victim of ethnic cleansing and genocide,
00:25:01Magneto is determined that his people, mutant kind,
00:25:04will not meet a similar fate.
00:25:06Like you, I believe that mutants and normal humans
00:25:09cannot live together in peace.
00:25:12The war for survival must begin now,
00:25:15while we mutants are strong and you are still divided.
00:25:19Unlike his friend, Charles Xavier,
00:25:21Magneto doesn't believe humans and mutants can peacefully coexist.
00:25:25His life was shaped by human cruelty,
00:25:27leading him to believe that mutants must dominate to survive.
00:25:30His ideology, born from pain and a desire to protect his people,
00:25:34makes him a sympathetic yet formidable antagonist.
00:25:37With the success of the sequel series, X-Men 97,
00:25:40more and more people have come to believe in a simple truth.
00:25:43Magneto was kinda right.
00:25:45Good luck to you, Xavier.
00:25:47Now we're even.
00:25:49But we shall meet again.
00:25:58And they call me prideful.
00:26:05I'm gonna let you go.
00:26:07And we're gonna get in the truck and I'm gonna drive you home.
00:26:10And all the bullshit up until now,
00:26:13we're gonna call it even.
00:26:15We're gonna forget that it ever...
00:26:22I don't forget.
00:26:28What if we negotiate?
00:26:31Yes, what if?
00:26:33We'd embolden more kidnappings,
00:26:36more commanders being held hostage.
00:26:39Think of the present.
00:26:41I'm thinking of my years of service to the Republic.
00:26:44I'm thinking of my wife and my son.
00:26:58Jan Levinson, The Office
00:27:00It's Jan.
00:27:02Oh, dear God in heaven.
00:27:08A slow, inexorable descent into abject madness
00:27:11is not the first thing that comes to mind in sitcoms,
00:27:14but Jan Levinson is proof that it should.
00:27:16Initially introduced as a competent, no-nonsense corporate executive,
00:27:20Jan's character takes a dark turn
00:27:22as her personal and professional life unravels.
00:27:25She forms an inappropriate relationship with Michael Scott,
00:27:28marked by unsubtle tormenting of the Dunder Mifflin manager
00:27:31with severe emotional abuse.
00:27:33Can you not do that? It's disgusting.
00:27:37You know I have soft teeth. How could you say that?
00:27:40Oops.
00:27:41As she loses control over her career,
00:27:44she spirals into increasingly erratic behavior,
00:27:47becoming completely unhinged.
00:27:49She is a portrait of self-destruction,
00:27:51and her guest spots provided The Office fans
00:27:53with some of their most memorable moments.
00:27:59Is this what you want?
00:28:05Hey, McMike. Why not, huh?
00:28:10Lester, is this what you want?
00:28:18Joe Carroll,
00:28:19the state of Virginia sentenced you to die for your many crimes.
00:28:22Do you have any final words?
00:28:35Quoth the Raven,
00:28:39Nevermore.
00:28:49Ah...
00:29:02But how about a diving helmet filled
00:29:05with the world's deadliest fungus?
00:29:08You don't mean...
00:29:10That's right!
00:29:11I found the medusoid mycelium,
00:29:14and I will unleash it on this island
00:29:16unless you give me those three orphans
00:29:19and that canoe.
00:29:24This is another conspiracy by the school faculty!
00:29:27A conspiracy?
00:29:28Cartman is a character who's only funny
00:29:30because he appears in an outlandish cartoon.
00:29:33If you ever met Eric Cartman in real life,
00:29:35you'd wonder why this violent sociopath
00:29:37wasn't institutionalized.
00:29:39Cartman is unapologetically offensive
00:29:41and self-serving in nature.
00:29:43Introduced as a foul-mouthed, bigoted child,
00:29:45Cartman quickly became infamous
00:29:47for his outrageous schemes
00:29:49and utter lack of moral boundaries.
00:29:51Na-na-na-na-na-na!
00:29:52I made you eat your parents!
00:29:54Na-na-na-na-na-na!
00:29:55From tricking a teenager into eating his own parents
00:29:58to leading hate-filled crusades,
00:30:00Cartman embodies the darkest aspects of human behavior.
00:30:03His childlike facade keeps his weak mother in line
00:30:06while he continues to bend everyone in South Park to his will.
00:30:09Cartman's role serves as a satirical lens
00:30:11on society's worst impulses.
00:30:13With a dash of malice and unbelievable humor mixed in.
00:30:16Your tears are so yummy and sweet.
00:30:18Dude, I think it might be best for us to never piss Cartman off again.
00:30:21Good call.
00:30:26Oh, hello.
00:30:29I'm a waggit, wuggit, wubba-wub,
00:30:33the wild and wooly West.
00:30:35Of all the things I haven't got,
00:30:38I white gold the best.
00:30:44Sarah O'Brien, this is not who you are.
00:30:49My lady, if you could just wait.
00:30:58You probably have a lot of questions for me, huh?
00:31:01We have time if you want.
00:31:03I have no questions.
00:31:08Get right with your maker, Mr. Bauman.
00:31:11As soon as we cut down the horse thief,
00:31:14you gonna hang.
00:31:21What you're worried about...
00:31:22Norman, stop it!
00:31:23No, no, maybe you should stop telling lies about me!
00:31:25When A&E chose to make a contemporary prequel to Psycho,
00:31:28there were many skeptics.
00:31:30The show, though, became the longest-running scripted drama
00:31:33in the history of the network.
00:31:35It tells the story of Norman Bates,
00:31:37with his chilling backstory fleshed out
00:31:39in deeper detail than the 1960 film.
00:31:41If you want to know what's really wrong with Norman,
00:31:44you should talk to the person who knows him best.
00:31:48And that's you?
00:31:51Of course it is.
00:31:53The series delves into Norman's deeply troubled relationship
00:31:56with his mother, Norma.
00:31:58Their relationship is less than ideal,
00:32:00leaving serious psychological trauma
00:32:02that shapes Norman's descent into madness.
00:32:04From a shy, awkward teenager,
00:32:06Norman gradually develops dissociative identity disorder.
00:32:09His mother persona slowly takes over
00:32:12as he commits ever more horrific acts.
00:32:14His deep, unhealthy bond with Norma
00:32:16fuels his violent tendencies,
00:32:18blurring the line between victim and villain.
00:32:21Look at me, Mother.
00:32:24Mother, look at me.
00:32:28Look at me, Mother!
00:32:34Is she watching?
00:32:36Yes.
00:32:37Brace yourself.
00:32:38For what?
00:32:39Don't you ever come in my office again
00:32:42unless you're summoned!
00:32:45Number 43.
00:32:46Mojo Jojo.
00:32:47The Powerpuff Girls.
00:32:49What?
00:32:50I created the Powerpuff Girls?
00:32:53I'm responsible for their birth?
00:32:55It was me who caused them to be?
00:32:57I triggered the events that led to their being on this Earth?
00:33:00I've dedicated my life to destroying what I had a hand in creating.
00:33:04I created them.
00:33:06It's all my fault.
00:33:07Number 42.
00:33:09Al Swearengen.
00:33:10Deadwood.
00:33:11Who stole the f***ing dope?
00:33:14F***ing sucker!
00:33:16Oh, Jesus.
00:33:17Number 41.
00:33:18Lex Luthor.
00:33:19The DC Animated Universe.
00:33:21You see, Superman,
00:33:24I own Metropolis.
00:33:27My technology built it,
00:33:29my will keeps it going,
00:33:30and nearly two-thirds of its people work for me
00:33:32whether they know it or not.
00:33:34Number 40.
00:33:35Livia Soprano.
00:33:36The Sopranos.
00:33:37It's nice of you to pick me up for the party, Junior.
00:33:41At least somebody cares about me.
00:33:43These kids today.
00:33:45It may be hard today to picture feeling sorry for a murderous mafioso,
00:33:49but fans of the Sopranos couldn't help but pity Tony after meeting his mother, Livia.
00:33:53Livia exerts a toxic influence over him,
00:33:56using guilt and psychological manipulation to control those around her.
00:34:00She is deeply bitter and cynical,
00:34:02using feigned helplessness to mask her emotional sabotage.
00:34:05This street is another pain in the ass.
00:34:11Livia eventually even tries to assassinate her own son.
00:34:17She is a creature driven by deep-seated malice and indifference,
00:34:20even towards her own family.
00:34:22She adds a layer of familial dysfunction to the show,
00:34:25helping to flesh out why exactly Tony is the way he is.
00:34:29You excited about coming to live with us, son?
00:34:34You will be. Trust me.
00:34:36Number 39.
00:34:37Rowan Pope.
00:34:38Scandal.
00:34:39You're speaking to a man from the ghetto.
00:34:41You have no idea what you're talking about,
00:34:44you privileged little inkwell prep school Ivy League doctor's son.
00:34:48You ain't no Jesse Jackson.
00:34:50You ain't got nothing to preach.
00:34:51You ain't got nothing to say.
00:34:52Number 38.
00:34:53The Shredder.
00:34:54The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
00:34:56Whoa, who's the dude with the metal face?
00:35:00They are the turtles.
00:35:02Hamato Yoshi's turtles.
00:35:04They must not discover my technodrome.
00:35:07Number 37.
00:35:08The Governor.
00:35:09The Walking Dead.
00:35:10We'll take you back to your people,
00:35:12explain this was all just a misunderstanding.
00:35:17You tell us where they are and we'll drive you there.
00:35:22I wanna talk to Glenn.
00:35:25I can't allow that.
00:35:27Number 36.
00:35:28Aku.
00:35:29Samurai Jack.
00:35:30Neither he nor the sword had the power to slay me forever,
00:35:35and neither do you.
00:35:39Number 35.
00:35:41Wilson Fisk,
00:35:42aka Kingpin.
00:35:44The Marvel Cinematic Universe.
00:35:46And if I just wanna walk out that door by myself?
00:35:49Then I would die alone.
00:35:52It wouldn't be the first time.
00:35:54When Netflix created their street-level Marvel series in 2015,
00:35:58they decided that Daredevil required an epic villain.
00:36:01They chose Vincent D'Onofrio to play Wilson Fisk,
00:36:04the kingpin of crime.
00:36:05Fisk was a man who learned harsh lessons from his father as a young boy,
00:36:09namely using savage violence to achieve his goals.
00:36:24Though he does want to rebuild Hell's Kitchen,
00:36:26he does so by consolidating New York crime under his banner.
00:36:30The kingpin is ruthless as they come,
00:36:32with an MCU career spanning multiple TV shows.
00:36:35He is scary enough to leave even an Avenger, Hawkeye, leery of crossing him.
00:36:40D'Onofrio's nuanced performance blends vulnerability with terrifying menace,
00:36:45elevating Kingpin to one of the best bad guys in the history of the MCU.
00:36:51I will do whatever I must.
00:36:55Number 34.
00:36:56Clay Morrow,
00:36:57Sons of Anarchy.
00:36:59This time we've been tracking Jimmy,
00:37:00you knew you were going to turn him over to this bitch!
00:37:02He blew up five of our men!
00:37:03She was his nephew!
00:37:04I know! I'm sorry!
00:37:05It wasn't his fault she made him do it!
00:37:06He really wasn't a role play!
00:37:07You are dead!
00:37:08Do you hear me?
00:37:09You are dead!
00:37:10You are dead!
00:37:12Number 33.
00:37:13Vernon Schillinger,
00:37:14Oz.
00:37:16Beecher's in J.
00:37:18He'll try to hurt the mayor to get back at me.
00:37:22I want you to put the word out, Winthrop.
00:37:23I want Beecher to know,
00:37:24you better not touch a hair on the old man's head.
00:37:27Number 32.
00:37:28Spike,
00:37:29Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
00:37:31You were my sire, man!
00:37:33You were my Yoda!
00:37:35Things change.
00:37:36Not us!
00:37:37Not demons!
00:37:39Number 31.
00:37:40Lalo Salamanca,
00:37:41Better Call Saul.
00:37:43What are you doing here?
00:37:44I'm just here to lend a helping hand,
00:37:46you know, make sure the business is running in order.
00:37:50I got a...
00:37:51I got a good head for numbers.
00:37:53Number 30.
00:37:54Villanelle,
00:37:55Killing Eve.
00:37:58Villanelle,
00:37:59played by Jodie Comer,
00:38:00is the enigmatic assassin at the center of Killing Eve.
00:38:03Comer's facility with accents
00:38:05quickly made Villanelle a fan-favorite icon.
00:38:08Despite Villanelle's charm and wit,
00:38:10at the bottom,
00:38:11she is a psychopath
00:38:12who never really managed to grow up.
00:38:14When was the last time you worked?
00:38:16Yesterday.
00:38:18Was it a successful mission?
00:38:20Yes.
00:38:21I shot them twice in the heart.
00:38:23You shot them twice in the heart?
00:38:25I shot them twice in the heart
00:38:27and watched the spark drain from his eyes.
00:38:29Her unpredictability and flair for the dramatic
00:38:31make her as captivating as she is dangerous.
00:38:34Villanelle's complex relationship with MI6 agent Eve Blastry
00:38:37is a toxic brew of obsession,
00:38:39attraction,
00:38:40and rivalry.
00:38:41Unlike traditional villains,
00:38:43Villanelle's cruelty comes from a place of utter detachment,
00:38:46driven by severe boredom.
00:38:48She wanders through the world,
00:38:49like most of us,
00:38:50trying to discover who she is
00:38:52and how to find joy that lasts.
00:38:54I'm going to kill you nicely.
00:38:57Hmm?
00:38:58First.
00:39:00But then I'm going to make a mess of your body afterwards
00:39:02so it looks worse than it is.
00:39:07And you think I'm going to hand a man over to you
00:39:09to be murdered
00:39:10like he is what?
00:39:11Some pig I borrowed from you?
00:39:13You gave me your word.
00:39:14I got half of mine to kick-
00:39:21Just relax, Elena.
00:39:22I'm not here to hurt you.
00:39:25You're not on my hit list tonight.
00:39:28But you are.
00:39:36Hello, Noah.
00:39:39Did you miss me?
00:39:50Christy, we've been together long enough.
00:39:51I don't have to remind you
00:39:54what happens when someone oversteps.
00:40:06How did you know?
00:40:07Like I said,
00:40:09we're alike.
00:40:11You and I.
00:40:23is the sinister scientist
00:40:24behind the experiments on children.
00:40:26He refuses to let anything or anyone
00:40:28stand in the way of his pseudoscientific progress.
00:40:31Brenner's cold calculation
00:40:32makes it easy to sympathize with his many victims.
00:40:35One, though, grew to be an even greater menace.
00:40:38Vecna, introduced in Stranger Things Season 4,
00:40:41is the terrifying antagonist
00:40:43behind all the horrors from the Upside Down.
00:40:45Where others saw order, I saw a straitjacket.
00:40:49A cruel, oppressive world
00:40:52dictated by made-up rules.
00:40:55Originally Henry Creel, later known as One,
00:40:58he was Dr. Brenner's first experiment in the Hawkins lab.
00:41:01Creel was born with immense psychic abilities,
00:41:04which grew dark and deadly as he grew up.
00:41:06Eleven eventually cast him into the Upside Down,
00:41:09where his body warped
00:41:10and he grew to control the dimension's denizens.
00:41:18It's happening.
00:41:28Number 24, Joffrey Baratheon, Game of Thrones.
00:41:31And who are you, boy?
00:41:33Micah, milord.
00:41:34He's the butcher's boy.
00:41:35He's my friend.
00:41:37A butcher's boy who wants to be a knight, eh?
00:41:41Pick up your sword, butcher's boy,
00:41:43let's see how good you are.
00:41:44Number 23, Nina Myers, 24.
00:41:47Don't even bother, Jack.
00:41:49If you lay a hand on me, you'll be taken off the case.
00:41:58Number 22, Plankton, SpongeBob SquarePants.
00:42:04Now what was I saying?
00:42:05Oh, right.
00:42:11I'm tired of the Krusty Krab taking all of my business.
00:42:15Number 21, J.R. Ewing, Dallas.
00:42:18Bobby, you just made your brother-in-law a very wealthy man.
00:42:21Well, it's not gonna break us, J.R.
00:42:23No, no, of course not.
00:42:25Yeah, that's a rather large field at current prices.
00:42:29You ought to do pretty well on that.
00:42:30Number 20, Newman, Seinfeld.
00:42:33Hello, Newman.
00:42:37Jerry?
00:42:38Newman is Jerry Seinfeld's nemesis in this iconic sitcom.
00:42:42He's a postal worker whose mere mention by Jerry is often accompanied by vicious disdain.
00:42:47While Jerry is no picnic, Newman is petty, scheming, and bitterly conniving.
00:42:52It's pretty hot under these lights, huh, Seinfeld?
00:42:56Pretty hot.
00:43:02Actually, I'm quite comfortable.
00:43:04Newman's ongoing feud with Jerry is fueled by jealousy and spite,
00:43:08leading to various plots and schemes to undermine the comedian.
00:43:11Despite his often absurd nature,
00:43:13Newman's relentless desire to annoy Jerry adds a layer of tension to a show famously about nothing.
00:43:19Seinfeld is a show known for its weird side characters and cameos.
00:43:23Despite the constant influx of quirky weirdos,
00:43:26Newman will always stand out as one of the weirdest and most hilarious.
00:43:33Jerry!
00:43:34Number 19, Negan, The Walking Dead.
00:43:38Boy, do I have a feeling we're getting close.
00:43:42Negan makes a dramatic entrance in season six as the ruthless leader of the Saviors.
00:43:47We first meet Negan as he kills off some of the show's mainstay characters by beating them to death.
00:43:52Negan's reign of terror is marked by a strange blend of brutal violence and charismatic leadership.
00:43:57His signature weapon, Lucille, a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat,
00:44:01becomes a symbol of his control over others.
00:44:04This...
00:44:06This is Lucille.
00:44:09And she is awesome.
00:44:13Despite his cruelty, Negan's savagery is informed by a rich and complex backstory.
00:44:18He brings a layer of dark humor to the show, disrupting the characters' dynamics in unprecedented ways.
00:44:25No, we are not giving up.
00:44:29No, we have made it this far, so we are gonna see this through.
00:44:34Number 18, The Borg, The Star Trek Franchise.
00:44:38None have ever been quite so dangerous as...
00:44:42The Borg.
00:44:44Holy shit.
00:44:46The Borg, introduced in Star Trek The Next Generation,
00:44:49are one of the franchise's most formidable villains.
00:44:52The Borg are driven by a singular goal,
00:44:54to assimilate other species and technologies into their collective consciousness.
00:44:58Their iconic catchphrase, resistance is futile,
00:45:01encapsulates their relentless and personal approach to conquest.
00:45:04The Borg's ability to adapt instantaneously to threats
00:45:07and their absence of individual personalities create an eerie, monolithic nemesis.
00:45:12We are the Borg. Resistance is futile.
00:45:16We have already won.
00:45:18Look at us.
00:45:20Eliminate all assimilated.
00:45:22Assimilated? Target locked. Burn them.
00:45:25Their invasion of the Federation,
00:45:27particularly the assimilation of Captain Jean-Luc Picard into Locutus,
00:45:31adds a personal stake and dramatic tension to the conflict.
00:45:34The Borg represent an existential threat to all life.
00:45:38Their technology warps your body,
00:45:40and their collective consciousness subsumes your soul.
00:45:43Number 17, Killgrave, Jessica Jones.
00:45:46You make me feel something I've never felt before.
00:45:50Yearning.
00:45:53Despite being a famously sweet and lovely man,
00:45:56David Tennant pulled out all the psychotic stops as Killgrave in Jessica Jones.
00:46:00Introduced in the series' first season,
00:46:02Killgrave is a mind-controlling supervillain.
00:46:05His psychotic powers can compel others to do his bidding,
00:46:08emerging as one of television's most chilling villains.
00:46:11Let the experiment begin.
00:46:13Like many Marvel villains,
00:46:15Killgrave's viciousness stems from childhood trauma.
00:46:18He was the subject and victim of unethical experiments and abuse.
00:46:22Killgrave grew into a sadist,
00:46:24using his powers to amuse himself at the expense of others.
00:46:27Tennant is able to seamlessly combine his natural charisma
00:46:31with a sense of terrifying malevolence.
00:46:33As a result, Killgrave is a standout MCU villain.
00:46:37For every year that you left me alone,
00:46:41stab yourself.
00:46:49Got him.
00:46:54How ironic.
00:46:56By leading us to this planet,
00:46:58the Autobots have sealed their own doom.
00:47:02Like many cartoons of the 1980s and 1990s,
00:47:05the Transformers were created as a vessel for selling toys to children.
00:47:09Despite its nakedly capitalistic origins,
00:47:11Gen Xers and Elder Millennials remember the series fondly.
00:47:15It introduced the world to Megatron and his Decepticons,
00:47:18a being famous for his ruthless ambition and lust for power.
00:47:22As the commander of the Decepticons,
00:47:24he seeks to conquer Cybertron and Earth.
00:47:26His gravelly voice and vicious personality
00:47:29make him the perfect foil for Optimus Prime,
00:47:31the noble leader of the Autobots.
00:47:33When I'm through with you, Prime,
00:47:35there won't be enough pizzas to sweeten up.
00:47:39For those of us born in the 1970s and 1980s,
00:47:43Megatron was one of the more formative villains of our childhoods.
00:47:46The race isn't over yet, Megatron.
00:47:49Oh, it's over, Prime.
00:47:51You just don't know it!
00:48:00Is 15 equal to 40, pal?
00:48:04Uh...
00:48:05Is 15 equal to 40, pal?
00:48:09No.
00:48:10No?!
00:48:11Good!
00:48:12The Roys of Succession and their company, Waystar Royco,
00:48:15form a loose portrait of the Murdochs
00:48:17and their conservative media empire.
00:48:19Logan Roy, the Pater Familius of the Roy clan,
00:48:22is a pivotal figure in modern television villainy.
00:48:25Played expertly by Brian Cox,
00:48:27Logan is the living embodiment of cold corporate ruthlessness
00:48:30and the exertion of raw power.
00:48:32His reign is marked by a fierce, cruel control
00:48:35over both his children and the company.
00:48:37You could...
00:48:40Sorry.
00:48:42What a shitshow.
00:48:44What a f***ing shitshow.
00:48:46Logan's domineering personality
00:48:48does give way to the odd moment of weakness.
00:48:50Still, he is best known for his merciless approach
00:48:53to business and family affairs,
00:48:55driving much of the show's conflict.
00:48:57He pits his children against one another
00:48:59in their contest to ultimately replace him.
00:49:02I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself.
00:49:05But...
00:49:07we will investigate
00:49:09and we will make sure every victim is compensated
00:49:13and every act of wrongdoing
00:49:15punished to the full extent of the law.
00:49:25Oh, oh, Gravity Falls!
00:49:27It is good to be back!
00:49:29Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls is a malevolent
00:49:31and seemingly all-powerful interdimensional being.
00:49:34Debuting in season one,
00:49:36Bill is an enigmatic demon with a triangular shape
00:49:38and a top hat.
00:49:39He's a creature of chaos
00:49:41who desires to alter reality to his every cruel whim.
00:49:44As the primary antagonist in the series,
00:49:47his role is defined by his desire
00:49:49to unleash chaos and destruction upon Gravity Falls.
00:49:52Bill's ability to warp reality
00:49:54when coupled with his Machiavellian personality
00:49:57makes him exceptionally dangerous and unpredictable.
00:50:00His cunning and intellect let him exploit
00:50:02the weaknesses of lesser beings.
00:50:04He's a strange and psychotic creature
00:50:06and one of the most terrifying bad guys
00:50:08to come out of a kid's show.
00:50:10We'll meet again.
00:50:12Don't know where, don't know when.
00:50:15Oh, I know we'll meet again
00:50:18some sunny day.
00:50:21Where am I?
00:50:22You're in the penthouse suite, kid!
00:50:24The tip of the pyramid! Have a drink!
00:50:30Skinny-ass bitch.
00:50:33Oh!
00:50:35Oh!
00:50:37As a loose adaptation of Hamlet,
00:50:39Sons of Anarchy isn't short on villains
00:50:41on a Shakespearean scale,
00:50:43particularly women.
00:50:45Agent June Stahl, for example,
00:50:47is an ATF agent out to destroy Sam Crow at any cost.
00:50:50Her schemes get Opie's wife killed,
00:50:52ultimately leading to Stahl's own demise
00:50:54when he claims revenge.
00:50:56She is nothing, though,
00:50:58compared to Katie Segal's Gemma Morrow.
00:51:00Like Hamlet's Gertrude,
00:51:02Gemma schemed with Clay to usurp and kill her husband.
00:51:05That's before the show even starts.
00:51:07Over the course of the series,
00:51:09Gemma's protective nature leads her to acts of cruelty,
00:51:12savagery, and murder.
00:51:21She is more than willing to kill anyone standing in her way,
00:51:25deceiving those closest to her at every turn.
00:51:29Could you leave all this behind?
00:51:34Your boy.
00:51:36Your club.
00:51:45You know I can't make that choice.
00:51:51Doctor Who is a show renowned for its memorable villains,
00:51:54each bringing a unique brand of peril to the series.
00:51:57The Weeping Angels, for example,
00:51:59are terrifying creatures that can only move when not observed.
00:52:02When they reach a potential victim,
00:52:04they send them back in time and feed on their potential energy.
00:52:08You stop right there!
00:52:10You are observed.
00:52:12And that is my power over you.
00:52:15For now, Jericho.
00:52:17Few of The Doctor's enemies, however,
00:52:20can compare to The Master.
00:52:22Like The Doctor, The Master has been played
00:52:24by multiple actors over the decades.
00:52:26Like The Doctor, The Master is a Time Lord,
00:52:29though one burdened by both a twisted sense of superiority
00:52:32and a penchant for chaos.
00:52:34Hello, Missy.
00:52:36I'm The Master.
00:52:38I'm very worried about my future.
00:52:43Give us a kiss.
00:52:44The Master's relationship with The Doctor is a complex one,
00:52:48with The Doctor often factoring in his grandiose plans
00:52:51for domination and destruction.
00:52:54I'm asking you really, properly, just stop!
00:52:56Just think!
00:52:57Use my name.
00:52:59Master.
00:53:03I'm sorry.
00:53:04Tough!
00:53:12You know there's dead on both sides, right?
00:53:14There's gonna be a whole lot more if this beef keep up.
00:53:17But the truth be told,
00:53:19there'll be more soldiers on one half than the other,
00:53:21you know what I'm saying?
00:53:22The Wire was a crime drama that featured
00:53:24a range of complex antagonists
00:53:26who vividly illustrated the show's exploration
00:53:28of systemic corruption.
00:53:30Marlo Stanfield, for example, evolves over the course of the show
00:53:33into a ruthless drug lord.
00:53:35His cold, calculating vibe belies his bloodthirsty tactics.
00:53:39He learned those tactics at the foot of a master,
00:53:42Idris Elba's Stringer Bell.
00:53:44Bell is one of the primary bad guys in The Wire,
00:53:47extending his influence beyond the street-level drug game.
00:53:50Money?
00:53:55Is that it?!
00:53:57Because if it is, man,
00:53:59I could be a better friend to you all alive.
00:54:01As the second-in-command of the Barksdale organization,
00:54:04Stringer Bell's ambition drives him to blend
00:54:06the criminal underworld with legitimate businesses.
00:54:09He's a sophisticated criminal,
00:54:11who manages to modernize and professionalize the drug trade.
00:54:14Must have done something to you.
00:54:17No, it's just business.
00:54:23My name is Benjamin Linus.
00:54:25I'm from the Home Office.
00:54:27Nobody from the Home Office has ever come out here.
00:54:30There's a new man in charge. He sent me.
00:54:32Sent you to do what?
00:54:34As the former leader of the Others,
00:54:36Ben Linus was one of the chief mischief-makers on Lost,
00:54:39a show chock-full of bad guys.
00:54:41The child of a Dharma Initiative janitor,
00:54:45Ben has been a resident of the island since he was a boy.
00:54:48Ben is a master of deceit,
00:54:50manipulating the island's survivors with an almost petulant glee.
00:54:54Survival is the name of the game,
00:54:56and Ben is willing to mow down anyone and anything
00:54:59he sees as a threat to his life or his control.
00:55:02He only becomes a reluctant ally to the survivors
00:55:05once his plans and schemes are set ablaze by the monster.
00:55:08We're finished here, Sayid.
00:55:11Turn around and walk away.
00:55:14Mourn your loss. Get on with your life.
00:55:16I have no life.
00:55:18They took it from me.
00:55:20Go home, Sayid.
00:55:22Once you let your grief become anger, it will never go away.
00:55:27I speak from experience.
00:55:32There was a mistake.
00:55:34It will be rectified.
00:55:36By whom?
00:55:38By whom will this be rectified?
00:55:42The Cigarette Smoking Man is the quintessential TV baddie.
00:55:45For most of the X-Files run,
00:55:47the Smoking Man was an enigma
00:55:49whose mysterious presence represented a vast and secret conspiracy.
00:55:53He is a shadowy figure with deep ties to both government and private industry.
00:55:57His calm demeanor and ever-present cigarette
00:56:00contrast sharply with his subtle manipulations of Agent Mulder.
00:56:03His sinister goals are slowly revealed over time.
00:56:06As a member of the powerful Syndicate,
00:56:08he is motivated to hide the truth about the planned alien colonization of Earth.
00:56:12He both orchestrates and conceals numerous supernatural events.
00:56:16The Smoking Man influences events from behind the scenes,
00:56:19but his personal entanglements with Mulder bring the two to conflict over and over.
00:56:24I came here hoping otherwise.
00:56:33Hoping that my son
00:56:36might live to honor me
00:56:40like Bill Mulder's son.
00:56:50In a world with supernatural elemental powers,
00:56:53the villains of Avatar The Last Airbender are formidable enemies.
00:56:57Azula, princess of the Fire Nation,
00:56:59is a talented and vicious firebender.
00:57:01Her desperate desire to please her father,
00:57:04coupled with her mastery of fire and lightning,
00:57:06lead to a slow but inexorable psychotic break as the show progresses.
00:57:10The danger of the unhinged Fire Nation princess, though,
00:57:13pales in comparison to her father, Fire Lord Ozai.
00:57:17Voiced by Mark Hamill,
00:57:19Ozai is the primary antagonist of the series.
00:57:21Why are you here?
00:57:23I'm here to tell the truth.
00:57:25Telling the truth during the middle of an eclipse.
00:57:29This should be interesting.
00:57:31He is a tyrant and murderer,
00:57:33having inherited a war to conquer the known world.
00:57:36Ozai is also a monstrous father.
00:57:39He pits his children against each other
00:57:41and maimed his son Zuko for life.
00:57:44Please, father.
00:57:45I only had the Fire Nation's best interest at heart.
00:57:47I'm sorry I spoke out of turn.
00:57:49You will fight for your honor.
00:57:53I meant you no disrespect.
00:57:55I am your loyal son.
00:57:56Rise and fight, Prince Zuko.
00:58:04I want you to disappear from my life.
00:58:08Like a ghost.
00:58:10A really annoying ghost.
00:58:13And you'll disappear from my life?
00:58:15I couldn't care less about your life.
00:58:17Dexter follows the trials and tribulations of Dexter Morgan,
00:58:20a Miami serial killer determined to ply his deadly gifts for the good of society.
00:58:25A sociopath born into blood,
00:58:27Dexter uses his hunts for personal growth.
00:58:30Each season has a main antagonist,
00:58:32like Oliver Saxon, the brain surgeon, in season eight.
00:58:35Oliver and Dexter spend the season circling one another
00:58:37until only one survives.
00:58:39Few of his foes, though, compare to the Trinity killer.
00:58:43Expertly played by John Lithgow,
00:58:45Trinity is a serial killer who somehow managed to balance
00:58:47his murderous nature with a family life.
00:58:49Did you say you were thankful for me, Jonah?
00:58:53What's that?
00:58:54I did not say I was thankful for you.
00:58:58Because I'm not.
00:59:01Dexter sees Trinity as a role model,
00:59:03insinuating himself into Trinity's life.
00:59:06Unfortunately, Trinity eventually flips the script
00:59:09and begins to hunt Dexter instead.
00:59:11I can't believe there was a time I actually thought
00:59:13I could learn something from you.
00:59:16You think you're better than I am?
00:59:17No.
00:59:21But I want to be.
00:59:26You'll always be my firstborn.
00:59:30Thank you for saying that.
00:59:33It means a great deal to me.
00:59:42Game of Thrones was a show that did not lack
00:59:44for characters to root against.
00:59:46It featured petty kings, ruthless queens,
00:59:49schemers, plotters, and undead tyrants.
00:59:52In a world full of villainy,
00:59:54it takes an epic level of sadism to stand out.
00:59:57Enter Ramsay Bolton, the bastard son of Lord Roose.
01:00:01That's it.
01:00:03That's the game.
01:00:05Easy.
01:00:07Ready?
01:00:09Go.
01:00:14No, you have to run, remember?
01:00:17Like his father, Ramsay enjoys flaying his enemies
01:00:20and leaving their bodies out as a warning.
01:00:22Mutilation and murder are his favorite pastimes.
01:00:25People are nothing but tools for him.
01:00:27From Sansa to his own father,
01:00:29Ramsay is more than happy to discard people
01:00:31when he's done with them.
01:00:33Unfortunately, Ramsay gets a taste of his own medicine
01:00:36when Sansa feeds him to his own hounds.
01:00:39They're loyal beasts.
01:00:41They were.
01:00:43Now they're starving.
01:00:51Joker here.
01:00:52Greetings, Gotham, and Merry Christmas.
01:00:55I hope you're watching Batman.
01:00:58After playing the ultimate hero, Luke Skywalker,
01:01:01Mark Hamill made a name for himself as a villainous voice actor.
01:01:04He is universally considered to be
01:01:06one of the best Jokers of all time.
01:01:08This version of the Joker first appeared
01:01:10in Bruce Timm's Batman the Animated Series.
01:01:14Yes!
01:01:15Another stunning Joker entrance
01:01:17leaves the crowd speechless.
01:01:20Let's hear it for him, folks!
01:01:22Hamill continued the role for years
01:01:24across TV shows, films, and video games.
01:01:27This is the quintessential version
01:01:29of the Clown Prince of Crime.
01:01:31Easily amused and even more easily bored,
01:01:33his portrayal brings a mix of dark humor
01:01:35and unpredictable violence
01:01:37that captures the essence of the character.
01:01:39He is equal parts silly and sadistic.
01:01:42The Joker is an anarchist at heart,
01:01:44seamlessly switching between a playful clown
01:01:47and an ominous killer.
01:01:50Bah humbug!
01:01:56Is that a British Army Browning L9A1 in your pocket?
01:02:01Or are you just pleased to see me?
01:02:03For over a century,
01:02:05the Western world has been fascinated
01:02:07by tales and adaptations of Sherlock Holmes' dance
01:02:10with Professor James Moriarty,
01:02:12his equal and opposite measure.
01:02:14Sherlock, the modern adaptation
01:02:16of the infamous private detective,
01:02:18gave us perhaps the best version
01:02:20of Jim Moriarty ever seen on screen.
01:02:22Andrew Scott delivers a powerhouse performance
01:02:24as the criminal mastermind
01:02:26bored by the inferior minds who surround him.
01:02:28His high-stakes intellectual battle with Sherlock
01:02:30clearly makes him feel less alone in the world.
01:02:33Jim is brilliant and, like his counterpart,
01:02:35a master of hiding in plain sight.
01:02:37His flamboyant personality
01:02:39is in stark contrast with the staid Sherlock.
01:02:41Despite their differences,
01:02:43both are thrill-seekers
01:02:45who seem to live for their battle of wits.
01:02:47Jim.
01:02:49Sherlock Holmes.
01:02:53Catch you
01:02:56later.
01:02:58No, you won't!
01:03:00Number 3. Mr. Burns.
01:03:02The Simpsons.
01:03:04I've called you all here because I need some honest answers.
01:03:07What is my current financial situation?
01:03:09Great! Great!
01:03:10I hear great.
01:03:11Alright, well, let's have a look at my stock portfolio.
01:03:13The Simpsons has had its finger
01:03:15to the pop culture pulse for almost 40 years,
01:03:18showcasing every kind of bad guy under the sun.
01:03:21Still, it's hard to beat old favorites
01:03:23like Sideshow Bob and Mr. Burns.
01:03:25Voiced by Kelsey Grammer,
01:03:27Sideshow Bob is a former TV clown
01:03:29and heady sophisticate with a taste for murder.
01:03:31Mr. Burns, though, has been around
01:03:33since the very beginning.
01:03:35He was an evil oligarch long before
01:03:37hating billionaires was in vogue.
01:03:39He is the personification of corporate greed
01:03:41and malevolence.
01:03:43The former owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant
01:03:45never saw a shortcut he wouldn't take.
01:03:47I'm looking for something in an attack dog.
01:03:50One who likes the sweet gamey tang of human flesh.
01:03:54Why, here's the fellow.
01:03:56Wiry, fast, firm, proud buttocks.
01:03:59Reminds me of me.
01:04:01His delight in causing misfortune
01:04:03and his ruthless pursuit of personal gain
01:04:05are a wellspring of conflict and humor.
01:04:08Number 2. Homelander.
01:04:10The Boys.
01:04:12Sage.
01:04:14Who's the leak?
01:04:16We're making inquiries to process.
01:04:18We're eliminating...
01:04:22I assume you know what that is?
01:04:24In The Boys,
01:04:26absolute power corrupts absolutely
01:04:28as every superhero is,
01:04:30in essence, a villain in their own way.
01:04:32Power makes them vicious,
01:04:34sadistic and hateful.
01:04:36However, nobody holds a candle to Homelander.
01:04:39This pastiche of the Man of Steel
01:04:41possesses both godlike powers
01:04:43and a deeply twisted psyche.
01:04:45His need to be loved and worshipped
01:04:47has led Homelander to murderous excess
01:04:49time and again.
01:05:02His winning smile barely hides
01:05:04a wildly unstable inner life,
01:05:06making him both terrifying and oddly compelling.
01:05:09In Season 2, he meets the love of his life,
01:05:12Stormfront, a nearly immortal Nazi soup
01:05:15who wants to wrangle Homelander
01:05:17in her desire to dominate humanity.
01:05:19She helps to unshackle Homelander,

01:06:00Breaking Bad is renowned
01:06:02for its complex and grounded villains.
01:06:04Take Todd Alquist, played by Jesse Plemons.
01:06:06He's affable, soft-spoken,
01:06:08and completely insane.
01:06:10Todd is a textbook sociopath,
01:06:12discarding and hurting people
01:06:14like they were lint in his pocket.
01:06:16However, Todd cannot compete with Gus Fring.
01:06:18Giancarlo Esposito gave us
01:06:20a masterclass in restraint.
01:06:22This becomes a much simpler matter.
01:06:26I will kill your wife.
01:06:28I will kill your son.
01:06:32I will kill your infant daughter.
01:06:34Gus is a cold,
01:06:36calculating drug lord
01:06:38who expertly hides his criminal empire
01:06:40behind the facade of a respectable businessman.
01:06:42His meticulous, methodical approach
01:06:44to maintaining power and control
01:06:46brought something new and refreshing to television.
01:06:48Gus's calm demeanor
01:06:50and ruthless efficiency
01:06:52made him a terrifying presence in every scene.
01:06:54It's better if, uh,
01:06:56if I do this myself.
01:06:58I do this.
01:07:04Did our list successfully capture
01:07:06the best of the worst?

01:07:12I'm not a little bird
01:07:14who needs your help to fly.
01:07:16Nope.
01:07:18I'm a bad guy.
