00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're counting down our picks for the most demanding bosses
00:09from across the Souls-like genre.
00:11Keep in mind we won't be including any bosses from the actual Souls series and other from
00:15software titles.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:28the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:49To go from a Zelda-inspired open world to adapting the linearity and ferocity of a Souls
00:54game was certainly a choice, especially for the third entry in a franchise.
00:59However, this also opened the way for some brutal boss fights, and sitting right at the
01:03top was the strongest of the Seven Sins.
01:06Her sword swings and AOE attacks can be trouble, but overcome with patience.
01:10But the real kicker for Pride is her second phase, where she adds a laser to the arena,
01:15causing you to constantly jump out of the way while trying to maintain your attack.
01:27Truth.
01:28Titan Souls.
01:34Being able only to attack with one arrow is not exactly the best weapon to have on hand
01:39when encountering giant eldritch creatures in a boss gauntlet.
01:43This becomes especially true of its secret final boss.
01:46Taking on all manner of shapes, Truth will not only turn the screen into a bullet hell,
01:50but will disorientate by assuming various forms.
01:53By the time you finally find your footing and are ready to take your shot, you're likely
01:57to find yourself getting trampled.
02:05Lu Bu.
02:06Wolong, Fallen Dynasty.
02:13It might seem crazy that the strongest boss in a game filled with demons of every size
02:17is actually some dude on a horse.
02:19Except for those who have put a lot of time into Dynasty Warriors.
02:23In both history and the gaming scene, Lu Bu is practically unstoppable.
02:27With his halberd, crusty steed and bow, this legendary warrior will devastate your health
02:32bar if you've yet to master Wolong's brand of combat.
02:35Whether on four legs or two, Lu Bu is a certified death bringer.
02:44Brogue Keeper to Poda, another crab's treasure.
03:02A mantis shrimp with a fabulous accent who can punch at the speed of light.
03:06This game has got it all.
03:08Among the nightmarish sea dwellers that Krill encounters on his journey to reclaim his shell,
03:12this optional boss will be waiting off the beaten path.
03:15Don't let his fabulous design throw you off guard.
03:17To Poda hits faster and harder than any other boss in the game and can shatter any shell
03:22you have should you mistime your counter.
03:24The cherry on top?
03:25You have to beat him in order to unlock upgrades for your magic attacks.
03:36The last son of the miracle, Blasphemous.
03:43His holiness Escobar was something of a challenge, but compared to the other monstrosities that
03:49the miracle unleashed onto the world, he was certainly on the lower scale of things.
03:53And then he took on his final form.
03:56To even have a chance of injuring this thing, you not only have to avoid a continuing elemental
04:01bombardment, but destroy his giant homing sword, which in turn triggers temporary platforms,
04:06giving you a brief window to land a few strikes before the whole thing resets.
04:11If the miracle's intention was to make us prostrate ourselves before its unholy difficulty,
04:16it succeeded.
04:22Ogdo Bogdo and Spawn of Ogdo.
04:25Star Wars Jedi, Survivor.
04:31Whoever decided that this boss needed to exist deserves to be burned at the stake, or at
04:36the very least roasted by force lightning, because this is something that could only
04:40come from a Sith mind.
04:41An optional challenge, Cal Kestis is pitted against not only one giant space frog, but
04:47two at once.
04:49Both armed with insta-kill attacks that can end you before you have time to bust out your
04:53lightsaber.
04:54Nothing inspired rage, quite like losing to these reptiles because they kept leaping over
04:59one another to take a bite out of you.
05:02Laxasia the Complete.
05:04Lies of P.
05:13Complete is certainly right, because Laxasia completely dominated us when she arrived on
05:19the scene.
05:20Not only bringing a giant ass sword to the fight, but the power to unleash a full thunderstorm
05:24at the click of a finger.
05:26The most powerful puppet running amok in this bloody take on the classic Pinocchio tale.
05:31Laxasia will crush those who haven't fully devoted themselves to the parry mechanic.
05:35Even then, her second phase will have you scrambling on account of her teleportation,
05:40status effects and askew timings with her swings.
05:57Cannoneer and Blade Bearer.
05:59Code Vein.
06:06Anytime a duo boss shows up in a Souls-like, chances are they're going to be the most
06:11difficult of the bunch.
06:12In the case of Code Vein, this is most certainly true.
06:15If the Blade Bearer isn't lashing out and creating quagmires of ice, then the Cannoneer
06:20is blasting you from afar with giant fireballs.
06:23Unless you've got an NPC partnered with you, then this duo are going to dogpile you.
06:28Not so much working in tandem as they are likely to barrage you every chance they get.
06:32Best hug those pillars.
06:40Maria.
06:41Neo.
06:54Don't pretend we're the same.
06:56She may not be the Maria we most associate with Souls games, but damn if this little
07:00lady didn't offer a heaping helping of game overs when we crossed swords with her.
07:04She is fast.
07:07Able to spin her way out of tight corners before unleashing blows with her rapier faster
07:11than we can blink.
07:12In a game where you fight mythological monsters, demons aplenty and friggin' Hayabusa from
07:17the Ninja Gaiden series, we were not expecting one of its biggest trials to be this slender
07:22bell with a blade.
07:23But that's what we get for underestimating Lady Maria of the Spanish Inquisition.
07:34Absolute Radiance.
07:36Hollow Knight.
07:45As far as secret bosses go, the Radiance was one of the most demanding that both Souls-like
07:50and modern Metroidvanias have ever produced.
07:53Between the teleporting, abundance of screen-filling attacks and shaky platforming, beating this
07:58wicked deity was a monumental undertaking.
08:01Now crank the difficulty to 11 and place it at the end of a gauntlet made up of 40 boss
08:06fights and you have Absolute Radiance, an upgraded version that will, without question,
08:12make you see the light after breaking you repeatedly.
