00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at bosses from video games that later became
00:08regular enemies, whether within the same game or a sequel.
00:16But before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and
00:21ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:25The Missionary, Silent Hill 3.
00:34The Silent Hill series features a ton of twisted bosses that thankfully only show up once.
00:39But The Missionary from Silent Hill 3 is a little different.
00:42He appears early on in the game, having been commanded to take the life of Heather Mason's
00:46father before trying to dispose of her.
00:48His quick reflexes can be problematic, even able to block bullets.
00:53Many more like him show up during the climax at the Order's chapel.
00:56Referred to as Scrapers, these versions are much weaker than The Missionary, but retain
01:00the same high speed that can still result in a quick demise if players aren't careful.
01:11Vampire, Final Fantasy series.
01:20Final Fantasy repurposes bosses into enemies fairly frequently, but for this list, we're
01:25going back to the beginning.
01:26In the original game, the Warriors of Light square off against a vampire boss at the end
01:30of the Cavern of Earth dungeon, which actually isn't too hard of a fight.
01:34However, the bloodsuckers start appearing during random encounters later in the game.
01:38Ever since then, vampires have shown up in abundance throughout multiple entries, usually
01:43with different attacks and abilities.
01:45However, with the exception of some spinoffs, they've mostly stayed as regular enemies.
01:50It makes sense, considering the franchise has long since been more interested in creating
01:54its own, more unique monsters.
02:02Sheegoth, Metroid Prime.
02:09Samus fights a lot of unique creatures in Metroid Prime, including shelled ice lizards
02:15whose pissed off mother tries to make her regret it.
02:18Players fight Sheegoth in the Chapel of the Elders in order to unlock the wave beam.
02:22Unlike her children, Mama Sheegoth can only be hurt when her mouth is open after emitting
02:26her ice breath.
02:27However, upon future visits to the Fendrana Drifts, Samus will have to deal with Sheegoths
02:33on a regular basis, as they'll become recurring enemies.
02:36While they won't have gotten any weaker, Samus will have gotten significantly stronger,
02:41making facing them much more manageable.
02:44Cyberdemon, Doom Series.
02:51Doom is another series that changes the status of its enemies from game to game, but we're
02:55going with one of the franchise's most recognizable baddies, the Cyberdemon.
03:00This goat-like behemoth with a fondness for rockets appeared as a boss in the first game,
03:04but in Doom II, it was demoted to a more commonly occurring enemy.
03:09It then went back up to boss for both Doom 3 and the 2016 reboot, however its latest
03:15appearance was of the more common variety, in a way.
03:18The tyrants of Doom Eternal aren't exactly the same, but they're similar in appearance
03:22and moveset, while the Cyberdemon doesn't appear at all.
03:32Caprademon, Dark Souls.
03:40Sticking with goat demons, let's talk about Dark Souls.
03:43Although it's an optional boss fight, players can find the Caprademon early on in the Undead
03:47Burg, and like many other FromSoftware fights, it can be a pretty big pain.
03:52One of the problems is the location, a tight spot with little room to maneuver in.
03:57There's also the boss's canine companions, which if not taken care of immediately, will
04:02do everything in their power to make their master victorious.
04:05Players can take out their frustrations on a whole pack of them later though, inside
04:09the Demon Ruins.
04:11Yes, you'll be stronger, but you'll also have a lot more room so you don't get cheaply
04:15smashed into oblivion.
04:19Ogre, Dragon Age Origins.
04:30Ogres are mighty creatures in most fantasy, and so Dragon Age Origins kicks off with a
04:35bang with its first boss.
04:37As you reach the end of the Tower of Ishal, the intimidating ogre will dwarf your party
04:42members in size.
04:43But more importantly, you also won't have much in terms of power to deal with it easily.
04:48Thankfully, as you build up your team and the ogres become a less rare occurrence, you
04:52can take appropriate levels of vengeance on them.
04:55Bioware actually did the same thing in Dragon Age 2, making an ogre the first boss before
05:00relegating them to regular enemies.
05:04Tripod, Dead Space 2.
05:14It's hard to decide on the most disturbing necromorph design, but the tripod from Dead
05:18Space 2 is certainly alarming.
05:21Standing on three legs, it is several bodies stitched together, which Isaac has the unfortunate
05:26honor of meeting as the first boss.
05:28However, as is the case with most survival horror, Isaac builds up the power of his weaponry
05:33throughout the game.
05:34So when tripods start appearing more frequently later in the game, players can lay into them
05:39with as much ferocity as they desire.
05:42They're still freakish as hell, but at least you can keep them well out of reach with enough
05:47firepower.
05:51Dodongo – The Legend of Zelda Series
06:00Like Final Fantasy, the Zelda series has demoted and promoted bosses and enemies across many
06:06games.
06:07But again, we're sticking with the roots.
06:09The Dodongo is the second boss you face in the original game, but it later appears in
06:13two other dungeons as a regular enemy.
06:16While King Dodongo is also the second boss in Ocarina of Time, there are multiple smaller
06:21ones that are used as enemies.
06:22Interestingly, the Dodongo would move back up to a boss in Oracle of Ages and Four Swords
06:27Adventures, but it would be backed to a lowly grunt by the release of Twilight Princess.
06:37Bloater – The Last of Us
06:42As Joel, Ellie, and Bill are chased through a school full of infected, they bar themselves
06:47inside the gym.
06:48But out of the pan and into the fire, as they say.
06:51At this moment, The Last of Us introduces its most horrific enemy yet.
06:55While there's no title card or health bar, the Bloater gets a special intro, is fought
06:59in an arena, takes a lot of firepower to go down, and, one of the cheaper boss tactics,
07:05summons minions.
07:06However, you'll come across Bloaters several more times in packs of infected.
07:11Yet, except for Ellie's solo chapter, you'll have upgraded your arsenal along the way,
07:15making them easier to deal with.
07:22Slogra and Gaiban – Castlevania Series
07:32These two Castlevania foes are often linked, and have therefore shared a fate of being
07:36demoted across the series.
07:37They first appeared in Super Castlevania IV, being two of the bosses faced right before
07:42Dracula, meaning they weren't easy.
07:45Slogra's deadly leaps could be tough to avoid, Gaiban rained stalactites down on you,
07:49and they both loved using fireballs.
07:52But they've become weaker and weaker ever since.
07:55They were the first bosses of Castlevania Symphony of the Night, before appearing as
07:59regular enemies later in the game.
08:01Since then, from Curse of Darkness to Harmony of Despair, Slogra and Gaiban have merely
08:06been minor obstacles on the way to actual bosses.
08:15Know of any other bosses that were downgraded to enemies?
08:23Share them with us in the comments, and be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays for more great
