00:00Well, I suppose we could just sit in this room and glare at each other until somebody drops dead, but I have a better idea.
00:09Welcome to WatchMojo. Today we're looking at bosses who berate the player when they can't beat them.
00:22Number 10. Great Shinobi Owl, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
00:25A strong argument can be made for every single Souls boss being on this list.
00:38The way they keep spamming attacks after your death is exceedingly embarrassing.
00:42Out of them all, we consider Sekiro's father to be the most demeaning. Each time he beats you, he'll recite the Iron Code.
00:48The majority of players will hear the first two parts of the Iron Code.
00:57More frustrated players may take a Jizo statue and get a third life, and they'll hear him prattle on about the Iron Code's final tenant.
01:04To summarize, he's essentially telling you to get good.
01:07Number 9. Baldur, God of War 2018.
01:17Baldur doesn't get a special cutscene or anything when you lose to him.
01:38Regardless of that fact, he spends the entire fight taunting and poking at Kratos.
01:43He's immediately insufferable, taunting Kratos with lines like,
02:01This makes it especially humiliating when he beats you.
02:04Additionally, their first fight is completely one-sided, so you really shouldn't feel bad if you die.
02:09In fairness, Kratos is much stronger in cutscenes, whereas S.H.I.E.L.D. blocks tremendous boulders.
02:14Makes you wonder, why are there so many unblockable attacks in the game when he's capable of that?
02:18You can't win! I feel nothing!
02:24Number 8. The Credits, Nier Automata.
02:34The final climax to one of the century's most profoundly philosophical games is a hilarious fight with the credits.
02:40Each time you die, the game will get progressively more insulting.
02:43It starts small, asking if you give up.
02:46With every death, it gets more condescending, asking things like,
02:58If you're connected to the internet, you'll quickly realize it's made to be unbeatable by yourself.
03:03After enough deaths, you can ask for help, but if you get the help killed, they'll lose their entire save file.
03:08It's a wonderful sequence, which perfectly reflects the game's morals and meaning.
03:22Number 7. Shao Kahn, Mortal Kombat Franchise.
03:25Is that your best?
03:32Given its gory nature, any defeat in Mortal Kombat can feel pretty humiliating.
03:37We decided to only choose one, however, and our pick was easily Shao Kahn.
03:41Not only is he one of the hardest bosses, but he's also the most condescending.
03:45He's maintained this reputation since Mortal Kombat 2, but his Mortal Kombat 9 appearance was his most famous.
03:51most famous.
03:59Khan was his final boss, and is still considered by fans as the series' hardest fight.
04:04He'll taunt you constantly, and if you die, he'll just stand there and laugh.
04:08It's irritating, but it makes beating him especially satisfying.
04:196.
04:20Virgil, Devil May Cry Franchise
04:32As the series' primary antagonist, Virgil is constantly belittling Dante.
04:36He's a major boss in both DMC3 and 5, and he'll be constantly throwing sass at his
04:41brother Dante.
04:42Virgil considers himself the rightful heir to Sparda, and he considers Dante's laid-back
04:47human attitude to be weak.
04:53This makes him stand out as one of the most condescending bosses in history.
04:56He's got so many iconic insults, some even feel like poetry.
05:00Others, like the concise, you moron, are the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
05:05It reflects the utter contempt he has for his brother, and makes it sting hard when
05:08he beats you.
05:135.
05:15Psycho Mantis, Metal Gear Solid It was only the third major entry in the franchise,
05:27but it gave us one of the most mechanically memorable villains in gaming history.
05:31He'll disable your controller, and to defeat him, you'll have to actually switch it to
05:35the controller 2 slot.
05:37One of his most famous gimmicks is reading through your memory card, and judging you
05:40for your gaming preferences.
05:50If you know what to do, he's a walk in the park.
05:52If you're ignorant of the gimmick, you'll probably get killed repeatedly.
05:56Every time you die, Mantis will call you things like a stupid fool.
05:59The icing on the condescending cake is the always intense Metal Gear Game Over screen.
06:104.
06:12Handsome Jack, Borderlands 2 The second game introduced the series' most
06:24popular character, Handsome Jack.
06:26Throughout the whole game, he'll ring and mock the player every few minutes.
06:29After dying, he doesn't personally insult you, but he runs the new U-Stations, and they'll
06:34berate you after respawning.
06:44So from the start, all the way until the end, you'll have little to no breaks from Jack's
06:48sass.
06:49Eventually, you'll make it to the final boss, and end his reign of terror once and for all.
06:53If you keep playing afterward, the Hyperion respawn points won't be any less passive-aggressive.
06:58Even in death, Handsome Jack knows how to humiliate you.
07:083.
07:11Joker, Batman Arkham Franchise Literally all bosses in the Arkham franchise
07:24will berate you after you lose.
07:26To avoid this list just being full of Batman villains, we only selected the Joker.
07:30In every game he appears, he'll have hilarious death screens.
07:33He's also Batman's main rival, and knows exactly how to taunt him.
07:37These range from witty, well-constructed quips to him just laughing in your face.
07:48To him, it's a celebration.
07:50The humiliation peaks when you start seeing the same insults repeat over and over.
07:54The Arkham series easily has some of the most creative death screens in gaming.
08:012.
08:03GLaDOS, Portal Franchise Is there a more passive-aggressive and sarcastic
08:19character in a video game than GLaDOS?
08:21She makes your whole time in Aperture Science as hilarious as it is humiliating.
08:25Since it's a puzzle game, it's a bit harder to just outright lose.
08:28Right now, it's still possible to die, and if you do, GLaDOS won't hold back.
08:41Alternatively, if you do get stuck on a puzzle for too long, she gets increasingly condescending.
08:46Unlike other bosses with straightforward insults, GLaDOS gets painfully personal.
08:50More than 15 years after her introduction, she still sticks out as one of the most amusing
08:55and quotable characters in a video game.

09:201.
09:22Sans Undertale Initially friendly to the character, if you
09:36successfully commit genocide, he'll be the final boss.
09:40He has only one health point, but he'll dodge almost all of your attacks.
09:44While you do get the same death screen fighting Sans as you would anywhere else, he'll make
09:47snide comments at you for missing.
09:50On top of this, he'll start the fight by commenting on how many times he's beaten
09:53you already.
10:02This makes him even more of a nightmare to defeat.
10:05When you'd be mad at him, though, you're the one who committed literal genocide.
