00:04He-Man and the Master Universe cartoon collection spike or untouchable master

00:11it's an exciting time to be a Master Universe fan for longtime fans and a new
00:31generation of kids who love the action-adventure it's time to experience
00:35the thrilling action-adventure of He-Man, Skeletor, the secrets at Castle
00:38Grayskull and much more the figures in this collection stand 5.5 inches tall and
00:43have 16 movable joints so they're highly poseable for imaginative and action
00:47oriented fun. I better be careful I don't prick myself on this pink and purple
00:51porcupine just before we get a closer look though at the Mattel He-Man and the
00:54Master Universe cartoon collection spike or first the tape measure is gonna tell
00:57us at a safe enough distance that the figure stands five and three-quarters of
01:01an inch in height or the figure stands at 15 centimeters tall. I guess it is a
01:05good day to be a bad guy when you start counting heads you realize that Mattel
01:08has really been favoring the villains in this line a lot more than the heroes in
01:12fact looking at spike or and comparing them along with the cartoon collection
01:15Skeletor and then you continue to add heads on top of that here's what the
01:19figure looks like with a cartoon collection Beastman recently we had a
01:22look as well at Webstore here's what the figure looks like with Merman off to the
01:27side a trap jaw the the San Diego Comic-Con too bad what's left behind of
01:32all the body parts I'm currently calling him half bad here's what the
01:36figure also looks like with the cartoon collection evil in like look just at how
01:40many villains we have so far and how many how many heroes we have there's
01:44quite a lot more bad guys than there are good guys and considering also that
01:48we're about to have a look at the cartoon collection spike or probably
01:50would make a whole lot more sense as well to bring in the original origin
01:53spike or so you can see the differences there as well for all the seven that
01:57care the figure does come in clear with little product sheet that shows you once
02:00again you can mix and match and swap the parts out take the head take the
02:02shoulders take the lower half of his body pop off the booze and you can swap
02:06them around with other cartoon collection figures as well this will be
02:10quickly quickly discarded into the recycling bin never to be spoken to
02:13again until of course we have a look at clawful speaking though a clawful one of
02:18the things that the two figures are going to share is the exact same mini
02:21comic honor among thieves it takes does take a lot of elements from the episode
02:26the games in which you'll see in the second the episode specific accessories
02:29are pulled from that specific episode but even though there is some references
02:33to the games more predominantly this space saucer down below that plucks from
02:37Eternia both Fisto and spike or as the two candidates that can are gonna be
02:42battling in the arena of games even though that's referenced down below
02:46there really isn't a whole lot of other things that are referenced the only
02:49that's a little strange though is about the front of the cover and all the
02:52images of He-Man inside I don't know if He-Man has suffered a stroke but
02:55something seems off on He-Man's face the animation is very much different than
02:59the kind of animation style that we've gotten in the regular origins comics I
03:02like it I just I don't know if I necessarily like the way they've drawn
03:07He-Man it just looks like like He-Man why so long in the face there's also
03:11referenced here as well there's clawful they also do make mention as well of
03:15clamp champ so I don't go I don't know if clamp champs gonna be making
03:18appearance I can't help but also point out that at the top corner you may have
03:21already been able to smell him long before he came into this room here's
03:24also stink or so there may be a few little teases for future figures we
03:27might get from the cartoon collection I would definitely be interested in a
03:30stink or also on the back there's some advertisements to character before I
03:34had a look at web store and evil Lynn one character that we're about to have a
03:37look at spike or down below and one character that we will be looking at in
03:40an upcoming review I don't know why I had to do this in an upcoming review
03:43clawful warrior with the grip of evil I'm gonna hold on to this even though
03:47we're gonna be seeing this comic again move that off to the side now for the
03:51figures accessories he comes with two playing pieces from that episode the
03:54games I've loved the games it's actually one of my favorite animated
03:58style Mass Universe there's something about the animation in games that's very
04:01different from regular Mass Universe cartoon episodes in which fist Oh and
04:05stink Oh stink or have to stink or the spike or have to retrieve these game
04:10pieces although the times that we've seen in the episode I think they're
04:13usually more yellow and they're glowing than they tend to be red you get them
04:17they they seem to be identical to one another they also have the same holding
04:20handles if you look at the way that the handles are designed there's a little
04:24looplet right here that with the hands that he has now you can just take the
04:27hands and have them holding on to those they basically just fit around the
04:31handles it looks really less like game pieces and it looks more like he's
04:34carrying around steins of elf some sort of alcoholic beverage go go go go I
04:38suppose if you wanted to pretend you can make this look like instead of game
04:41pieces you probably could pretend like they've stopped for a drink somewhere I
04:44mean honestly like I don't think it's the coolest of the accessories you know
04:48my feelings when it usually comes to these like cartoon collection episode
04:51specific accessories I just think that a lot of times they're throwing things
04:54that I just usually put into a bag somewhere down the road like I when I'm
04:58done doing these reviews I usually put the figures front and center on my shelf
05:01and then a lot of times these things unless they're weapons I put them back
05:04in a bag somewhere I just I'd have no plans at all of displaying them now the
05:08evil geyser would have been a prime thing to include with spike or for the
05:12obvious size the fact that the character has to sit inside this thing in the
05:15episode it's supposed to take a character that's already normally evil
05:19and it makes him evil ten times more over although if you look at spike or
05:23and the way he succeeds in the episode I don't think he's any more evil than he
05:27was before he stepped into the email evil geyser love if they could release
05:31that down the road I don't know why I'm doing it like I'm outlining him in a bar
05:34in a box but it's a pretty cool looking thing that Skeletor invents and you
05:37never see ever again what you don't ever really see in this episode either is the
05:41fact he comes in clue with his hand tridents this whole throughout episode
05:45of the games spike or actually just has regular hands so he doesn't actually
05:48have this but is a good nod to the original vintage toy and hey why not the
05:53origins figure also had this as well if you want to pick either one a hands
05:56either one hand can be removed obviously being the fact these are swappable parts
06:01let's choose you know what we'll go with this hand just because this hand is the
06:04closest one to resembling well it's the same side as hand as the one that we got
06:08from the origin so I'm gonna stick with the same sides by the way in case you
06:11are curious to if you went back to those game pieces I know at the top they kind
06:14of look like they have a little peg are you thinking what I'm thinking well I
06:18already thought what you were thinking and I gave thought to it by the way if
06:21you look on the ends of his arms actually he's got a hole but it's not
06:23the same size because if you were thinking hey could you put Christmas
06:26lights on the ends of spike horse hands you can't do that you could probably
06:30maybe dowel a hole but then he's not gonna be able fit anything else
06:32afterwards and then you just can be stuck with these Christmas light hands
06:35nobody's gonna want to do that what you may do instead though is you can take
06:39the human trident the little trident hand I don't know what kind of human
06:42trident that plugs in place there's actually a little hinge here too so you
06:45can actually hinge this back and forth as well that doesn't rotate here this
06:49seems to be all like as one piece it's painted fairly well here in silver but
06:52it depends really on how you want to have this display if you want to display
06:55it like spike or from the cartoons you're probably not gonna be displaying
06:58it with the trident hands you're probably gonna be line it back to this
07:02hand and you can be displaying the figure with that way as well okay so
07:05let's break down all the details here for spike or the thing that's
07:09interesting about him is obviously like with the origins and the vintage toy
07:12this body isn't just armor over top in fact if you take the two halves and
07:16detach them hey are you starting to advertise that you can mix and match the
07:19parts no no no no if you remove it you can see that this is completely encased
07:24so they haven't devised an idea just to put a torso piece over top of a regular
07:28bought build a body they've actually completely remolded a brand new body
07:33piece similar to the original spike or so you just pop that back in place all
07:38these spikes by the way even though they are prickly to touch at least they're
07:41softer plastic if you are something that runs around the house with toys in
07:44your hands you would still want to be worrying about carrying around this guy
07:47especially if you're tripping over something that you didn't know was in
07:50front of you this has happened to me a lot of times actually happened to me a
07:53couple of days ago I was carrying a box I didn't realize there was a toy in the
07:56kitchen and I took a tumble luckily you don't see any of the bruises they're
08:00painful but you don't see any of the bruises it would certainly leave though
08:03marks if you were to fall on this guy you'll be though happy to know that the
08:07spikes are all soft and plastic even the spikes on his head are also soft and
08:10plastic yeah I don't know how much the evil geyser really makes him ten times
08:14more evil and why Skeletor doesn't devise an idea to use that down the road
08:18but like what we get here with spike or in the episode is pretty much as a like
08:22a useless crony for Skeletor you could basically just take spike or from the
08:27games it could have very well inserted any other one of his bad guy villains
08:31and just kind of thrown them in there instead this was basically just a chance
08:34for spike or to shine you know again like for him being in this episode it is
08:38one of my favorite of the mass universe episodes more for the animation not as
08:41much for the story I do hope though speaking of the games that we do get
08:45ourselves a fist Oh down the road but in the meantime obviously spending some
08:49time here with spike or I like the coloring of this guy if you were to
08:52compare him to like the origins body the origins obviously would have been based
08:56more on the vintage toy you got a lot more darker purples the spikes themselves
09:00are actually very similar in color here and instead of having more of a pig
09:03snout on the original toy the cartoon collection gives them kind of a little
09:06more of a regular nose instead he still has yellow eyes he still has fangs but
09:10they're a lot more simplified he still sticks to the cut to the idea that he
09:14has spikes all over his body when we do look at claw full you'll see he takes a
09:18very much a different departure than the original vintage toy I like the look on
09:21the pink on the arms the pink down below on his lower legs look quite well and
09:24you know again like he looks he's a decent-looking figure I don't know if I
09:28would have necessarily wanted to get a spike or so soon into this line I mean
09:31speaking of things that end in or and start with s no that's not a riddle I
09:34would have loved really if we had gotten a stink or before a spike or that being
09:39said though for the figures articulation spike or his head does rotate out out
09:42how does rotate all the way around it does look down it does look up you can
09:46also rock it back and forth as well swivels in the waist the arms do come
09:50out at 90 degrees you take the arms and rotate them all the way around all the
09:54way around this side as well he has a single hinge in the elbow that comes to
09:58the territory the same territory of rotating the forums you can rotate the
10:01hands of all the way around and even if you decide you want to display this
10:04figure with the trident even though it's not really the most cartoon accurate
10:07this does rotate back and forth and there is a hinge can you see it there's
10:10a hinge right there that allows this to rock back and forth this way to legs do
10:14split they're on bulge right so you can take the legs forward yeah back yeah
10:18bend at the knee wrote and rotate the lower leg rotate at the boots ankle
10:22pivot ankle rocker figure does have toe holes on the bombs of his feet as well
10:26as a side note though I mean breaking down also the regular territory when it
10:31comes to the articulation these figures I can't help but also stop and say he
10:34does seem to have a little bit of developing looseness on his note lower
10:37knees I don't know if that's just like degration of like the the molds just
10:41being used again and again and again and again but I mean to to be like this is
10:45what the third wave so far what we got for the cartoons I just don't know this
10:49worries me that we're starting at looseness and in the knees it may not be
10:52on everyone's but I did notice it here on spike or like the look of the figure
10:56whether you decide you want to display the figure with the trident in his hand
10:59or on serving as his hand or you want to go back I you know even though really
11:03when it comes to like spike or two things that go with the character are
11:06the trident on his hands and also the fact he's known for spikes I think though
11:11with the cartoon collection what I might end up doing though because I want to
11:14make them look the most like the cartoon is I might just end up removing the
11:17trident and going back to the idea of the figure being displayed with his hand
11:20not only does he have both hands in the episode the games but also the majority
11:24of the times that if a few times that we've seen spike or usually has more of
11:28a hand that he does have a trident speaking of things that appear in the
11:31episode again like we got game pieces not the most interesting things that
11:34come include with the figure I mean I mean the evil gyser would have been so
11:37ridiculous to think that Leo Mattel would have included such a large piece
11:41it had to basically be a chamber for this character stand inside there's no
11:44way at all that they would have ever included an evil gyser and how does it
11:49make him ten times more evil when he's literally just as dumb as a doorknob as
11:52he was at the beginning of the episodes I just don't know if these things will
11:55go probably back in the bag with all the other cartoon specific accessories
11:59that we've gotten so far the games is definitely one of those classic masters
12:03episodes where it gives the writers a chance just to select two randos that
12:08normally don't get a chance to shine that often and it throws them into an
12:11adventure together selecting on the heroes side of course Fisto and on the
12:15villains side we've got ourselves spike or now the excuse that they give this is
12:20that the saucer comes down to the planet of Eternia and it wants to select the
12:23most heroic and the most villainous to perform in a planet of games the thing
12:28about it though is Skeletor realizing this devises his one-time single episode
12:32experiment the evil gyser and he takes one of his cronies just happens to be
12:36spike or he throws him into the this containment that makes him ten more
12:40times evil than he was before what is first of all the measurement of evil and
12:44how do you take that and you multiply it by ten wouldn't also create a plot the
12:48problem that you've now got a character that is net now ten times more evil does
12:52that make him ten more times evil than Skeletor it doesn't seem to help him at
12:56all he's still as dumb as a doornail in the episode so what exactly did it take
13:00and what did it do and multiply by ten on the heroic side of course the saucer
13:05people choose that of all characters Fisto now I would have thought right
13:09away like man-at-arms man-at-arms I think no offense might be a little bit
13:12more heroic than Fisto already people are putting up their hands and probably
13:15saying well what wait a minute wait a minute wouldn't he man not be the most
13:19heroic person on Eternia at the time well at the time that the saucer people
13:23were coming down to choose their selection he man was Prince Adam
13:26training with Tila ah there's writers solution right there so we get a chance
13:32to have Fisto and now spike or showcased in this episode he man makes an
13:36appearance merman gets an appearance it is for me by far one of the best
13:40animated episodes of Master Universe if you ask me one thing of those that's
13:44very obvious is that they did throw in accessories that appear in the games now
13:48evil geyser would have made no sense just by the size and just how large this
13:52thing would have to be it would occupy just as much if not more packaging than
13:56spike or so they what they do instead is they throw in the game pieces now the
13:59game pieces are a little underwhelming honestly they look more like things that
14:03are carrying around beverage than our things that are glowing funny though
14:06enough that in the episode the things are glowing yellow not necessarily red
14:10but you get a red you get a yellow you get also as well a hand trident now if
14:14you're following the canon of the cartoon spike or really shouldn't have
14:18the trident on the end of his hand he had it in the vintage toy but if you
14:22want to follow at least have these guys displayed as they appear in the cartoon
14:25then I think maybe the trident like with the game pieces will be ultimately put
14:29in a bag at least that's my plan I mean the trident worked okay with the
14:33original vintage toy and also the origins of spike or but I think for the
14:37cartoon collection I like to have these things look the most like their cartoons
14:40so I'm probably gonna take the trident and yank them back off his form and put
14:44it in the bag along with the game pieces all in all though I do like the
14:47look of spike or I mean he's using completely a different torso piece and
14:51all the other things we've gotten so far from a body standpoint for the
14:54filmation cartoon collection line he's using a completely different mold very
14:58similar to the original vintage and the origins and of course he's got a pretty
15:01cool looking head sculpt there as well the colors on this guy look a little bit
15:05brighter obviously he's got now pinks in his arms and pinks in his legs and he
15:09has the again like the really cool head sculpt that they given him as well one
15:13thing can certainly be said for the cartoon collection is there's a lot more
15:15personality I feel for these characters and maybe some of the original vintage
15:19toys a spike or does have soft spikes at least so if you are one that carries
15:23this guy around you're not gonna be impaling yourself it's gonna hurt but
15:27it's not gonna hurt as much have you guys had the chance to pick up spike or
