00:00Ghosts aren't real. Only gullible people believe that kind of crap.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:06And today, we're counting down our picks for Jenna Ortega's scariest scenes in film and television.
00:11Since these moments detail key plot points, a spoiler warning is now in effect.
00:16Who's the lady?
00:18What lady, honey?
00:20The lady standing behind them.
00:25Number 10. Mabel is questioned by Weeks. Finest Kind.
00:29In 2023's Finest Kind, half-brothers Charlie and Tom find themselves in need of a lot of money
00:35to unseize their dad's fishing boat from authorities.
00:38Hey, Tom.
00:41Tom, I'm gonna get you through this.
00:47Charlie hits it off with Jenna Ortega's Mabel,
00:49a dealer who tries to help by getting them involved in a lucrative substance smuggling job for local crime boss Pete Weeks.
00:55After the crew is ambushed and robbed,
00:57Tom immediately believes Mabel to be behind the attack.
01:00Who were they?
01:04Who's who?
01:05The guys who jumped us?
01:07Are you asking me?
01:09How would I know?
01:10Later, Weeks tells them that Mabel had nothing to do with it because he questioned her himself.
01:15Mabel doesn't know squat.
01:17And trust me, we asked her hard.
01:19We don't see Weeks assault Mabel on screen,
01:21but we do witness the awful aftermath.
01:24Which is enough to make our stomachs drop.
01:26God, Charlie.
01:27Mabel.
01:28Charlie, I just...
01:30I don't want you to look at me right now.
01:38Netflix's 2020 follow-up to their well-received horror film The Babysitter
01:42sees Jenna Ortega portraying a new student named Phoebe Atwell.
01:46Basically, they're a blood cult.
01:47And they made a deal with the devil,
01:49and in exchange for their souls, they get any life they want.
01:54Thank God I thought they were zombies.
01:56I hate zombies.
01:57At the lake, she and Cole Johnson work together to evade the cult members,
02:01who Cole's best friend Melanie has just been revealed to be part of.
02:04People will do anything to get what they want.
02:10And what Cole wants.
02:16Melanie captures Phoebe to lure Cole for sacrificing,
02:20and he comes to her rescue,
02:21offering to take her place.
02:24Ultimately, though, it's Bea who saves them both.
02:26Phoebe proved early on that she was too much of a badass
02:29to ever be in any real danger.
02:31But her encounter with the drifter did have us worried for a minute.
02:35Get your hands off me!
02:37Wow, you guys making s'mores?
02:38I absolutely love s'mores!
02:43On Netflix's You, Joe Goldberg is usually the one everyone should worry about.
02:48But for Ortega's Season 2 character Ellie Alves,
02:51Joe turns out to be her savior.
02:53Okay, this cannot be our thing.
02:55What are you, following me?
02:57No, I was at the show.
02:58Why?
02:59You're not funny.
03:00The young, aspiring filmmaker tries to get a foot in the door
03:03by screening her short film for a stand-up comedian named Henderson.
03:06Her sister Delilah had her own traumatic experience with him.
03:09So when Ellie visits Henderson's house alone,
03:12we know nothing good can come of it.
03:14You have to promise me you're not gonna tell anybody
03:16that you were here alone with me, okay?
03:18I get it.
03:19I'm a Vogue.
03:20Scout's honor.
03:22This is his clever trick to make her feel safe like she chose.
03:27A stealthy Joe sees him slip something into her drink
03:30when she's not looking.
03:31In turn, he gives Henderson a stronger dose
03:34and also becomes Joe's next victim.
03:36Help me!
03:37I'm going to help you after you confess
03:39to what you've been hiding in this little secret room.
03:43Thankfully, Ellie wakes up and leaves unharmed.
03:45Had Joe not been there, however,
03:47we know what likely would have happened.
03:50All right, later, loser.
03:51I'm leaving.
03:52Number 7.
03:53Camila and company escape the facility.
03:56American Carnage.
03:57In 2022's twisted horror comedy American Carnage,
04:01Governor Harper Finn orders all undocumented immigrants
04:04and their children to be arrested and detained separately.
04:07Issuing a surprise executive order.
04:10Governor Finn has declared a state of emergency.
04:13Issuing a surprise executive order
04:15commanding the task forces across the state
04:17carry out widespread arrests of illegal immigrants
04:20in what many are calling a blatant political ploy
04:23to galvanize his base
04:24before the upcoming gubernatorial election.
04:27Ortega plays Camila Montez,
04:29one of the many youths chosen to work at a nursing home
04:32in exchange for their parents' freedom.
04:34As if this imposed community service wasn't messed up enough,
04:37she and her friends uncover an even darker conspiracy.
04:40Essentially operating as a slaughterhouse,
04:43the facility's elderly patients
04:45are actually tenderized young detainees.
04:48Next we add hormone to the mix,
04:51converting lean muscle to tender meat.
04:56That's hard work on your body.
05:00After Camila discovers something she shouldn't,
05:02she's taken and injected with the same stuff
05:04and it rapidly ages half her face.
05:07The get-out-like scenario is as disgusting
05:09as it is terrifying.
05:10Luckily, she manages to free herself and others
05:13but is still left disfigured
05:14and most certainly traumatized.
05:37As the title character in her show,
05:39Wednesday Addams has significant plot armor.
05:42The audience knows she won't die,
05:44so any uneasy situation loses some of its scare factor.
05:47However, when a resurrected Joseph Crackstone
05:49straight-up stabs Wednesday in the Season 1 finale,
05:52we were shocked, to say the least.
05:54Her ghostly ancestor, Goody Addams,
05:56is able to heal her,
05:57only for her to face Crackstone again
05:59and promptly take an arrow to the shoulder.
06:02Howdy, Pilgrim.
06:09The ever-resilient Wednesday keeps it pushing, though.
06:12She makes it look like it's just another Wednesday.
06:22Tara Carpenter recuperates in the hospital
06:24after miraculously surviving a ghostface attack.
06:27But as Scream fans know,
06:29the relentless masked killer
06:30will come back to finish the job.
06:37Her injuries more than slow her down
06:39and thanks to Ortega's amazing performance,
06:41we can truly feel her pain
06:43as she desperately tries to get away.
06:48With Sam and Dewey on the way,
06:49we know she will likely survive
06:51but some real damage is not out of the question.
06:54Tara makes it out alive again
06:56but this is far from her last near-fatal encounter.
07:00I'm sorry.
07:01For what? You saved my life.
07:08Jenna Ortega has a very brief
07:10but memorable appearance
07:11at the beginning of Studio 666,
07:13the 2022 horror-comedy starring the Foo Fighters.
07:16Okay, you guys, check it out.
07:17The sound of this house
07:19is the sound of Album 10.
07:22Ortega's Sky Willow is the drummer
07:24for the 1990s heavy metal rock band,
07:26Dream Widow.
07:27But the only time we see this character,
07:30she's crawling away from someone
07:31trying to kill her
07:32who we later find out
07:33is the band's demon-possessed frontman.
07:35As time went on,
07:37something truly sinister
07:39took a hold of Greg.
07:41As she tries to save herself,
07:42she sees the remains of a bandmate
07:44and we just know
07:45she's about to meet the same fate.
07:50Sky is already injured
07:52and unable to run away
07:53so we know the chances
07:54of her making it out alive
07:56are non-existent.
07:57It's definitely one of Ortega's
07:59most hopeless horror scenarios.
08:06If there's one scene in Scream 6
08:07that proved the new slasher behind the mask
08:09wasn't playing around,
08:10it's the bodega scene.
08:15After almost being attacked by Ghostface,
08:17Sam and Tara run inside for help.
08:19While customers and the bodega owner
08:21try to protect them,
08:22Ghostface doesn't hesitate
08:24to kill anyone standing in the way.
08:26Go out the back!
08:28All bets are off
08:29when the weapon of choice
08:30switches from the signature knife
08:31to a shotgun.
08:33Of course,
08:34we don't expect Tara to be dispatched
08:35this early in the movie
08:36but during this intense scene
08:38all we were thinking about
08:39was how this vicious Ghostface
08:41is genuinely terrifying.
08:43Run!
08:44Go, run!
08:49Number 2
08:50Lorraine's Basement Discovery
08:52X
08:53In Tai West's X,
08:54Jenna Ortega plays
08:55the quiet and reserved Lorraine Day
08:57who finds herself on a trip
08:58to a secluded farm in Texas
09:00to assist her boyfriend R.J.
09:01as he shoots an adult film.
09:03This wasn't what I had in mind
09:04when I agreed to help out on your film.
09:06Thought I'd start somewhere, Lorraine.
09:08But what began as an uncomfortable situation
09:10for Lorraine
09:11swiftly became a nightmare.
09:13While roaming the property
09:14looking for R.J.,
09:15she runs into the owner Howard
09:17who convinces her
09:18to find a flashlight
09:19in the basement
09:20alone.
09:21Down the stairs
09:22you see my workbench.
09:25Believing his helpless old man act
09:27the wary but too trusting Lorraine
09:29ventures into the dark cellar
09:31and as we feared
09:32gets locked in.
09:33She stumbles upon a grisly scene
09:35and appropriately lets out
09:36an award-worthy
09:37blood-curdling scream.
09:43Lorraine finally escapes
09:44with the help of Maxine
09:45but just as soon as
09:46we're starting to feel hopeful
09:48she's killed.
09:49I hate you!
09:50I hate you all so much!
09:52Lorraine!

10:15To say the opening scene
10:16of 1996's Scream
10:18is iconic
10:19would be an understatement.
10:20Drew Barrymore's
10:22Casey Becker answers
10:23the phone
10:24plays the anonymous caller's
10:25movie guessing game
10:26and dies horribly.
10:28Listen it was Jason
10:29I saw that movie
10:3020 goddamn times!
10:32Then you should know
10:33Jason's mother
10:34Mrs. Voorhees
10:35was the original killer.
10:36Jason didn't show up
10:37until the sequel.
10:38For 2022's Scream
10:39the fifth installment
10:40in the franchise
10:41Jenna Ortega
10:42stepped into the role
10:43of Tara Carpenter
10:44Ghostface's first victim.
10:46What's your favorite
10:47scary movie?
10:48Uh...
10:49The Babadook.
10:50It's an amazing
10:51meditation on motherhood
10:52and grief.
10:54Isn't that a little
10:55fancy pants?
10:57Well it's
10:58elevated horror.
10:59With her friend's
11:00life on the line
11:01the caller forces Tara
11:02to answer questions
11:03about in-universe
11:04stab movies.
11:05As always
11:06Ortega's authentic
11:07performance makes
11:08the fear and physical
11:09pain feel real.
11:10Question one
11:11who wrote the
11:12original book
11:13that the stab movies
11:14are based on?
11:16Um...
11:17Um...
11:18The...
11:19The chick from TV.
11:20The chick from TV
11:21is not gonna cut it
11:22Tara.
11:23But unlike
11:24the Scream queens
11:25before her
11:26Tara survived
11:27the brutal attack
11:28completely subverting
11:29our expectations.
11:30Little did we know
11:31she would be
11:32our final girl
11:33one who even
11:34made it to the sequel.
11:37Hey!
11:38Hey Sam!
11:39Sam!
11:40Sam!
11:46Oh you're not going
11:47anywhere without me.
