00:00Good morning, it's Steph at the Doncaster Free Press and it's Wednesday, September the 9th.
00:04Just bringing you some of our headlines this morning. I've put out this first thing this
00:09morning, a piece from our data team. There are hundreds of new safeguarding concerns
00:15which have been highlighted in adult social care in Doncaster over the last year. We've had some
00:21new figures through. When an adult is in care, it's judged to be at risk or abuse or neglect.
00:29Local authorities have a duty to carry out an inquiry. Figures from NHS England show that
00:35inquiries were raised around 630 times about adults in social care in Doncaster in the last 12 months.
00:43So you can read all about that this morning. Quite an interesting read.
00:49Then another one regarding health. The Doncaster Hospitals Trust has this week launched a new
00:56pilot programme for managing patient appointments. The Trust is trialling a partial booking system
01:03with the gynaecology department, offering patients the chance to choose their own appointment date
01:08and time with the outpatient service. The aim is to speed up care, reduce waiting lists and
01:15lessen the chance of appointment cancellations and provide a more tailored service. So that
01:21sounds really, really good. Let's hope it comes to fruition and that will make a lot of people
01:26happy. There are a lot of concerns about lack of appointments, not being able to see a doctor,
01:32that sort of thing. So fingers crossed, we'll see how that pilot runs. And then lastly, something
01:37was put out by the police late yesterday. A man has appeared in court in Doncaster Manor. He's
01:43been charged with a firearm offence after allegedly aiming a weapon at a police officer in an incident
01:50in Mexborough over the weekend last week. Daniel Woodrow has been charged with multiple offences
01:56following the incident which happened on Saturday evening the 31st. Armed officers attended the
02:02incident and Woodrow was arrested the same evening on numerous offences. He has appeared in court
02:10this week and is due back at the end of the month. So we'll keep you up to date on that. So for those
02:16three stories and for anything else that's happening in Doncaster today, keep visiting
02:20the website, Facebook and of course X and have a lovely Wednesday.
