00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of 13 lives, so,

00:05let's begin.

00:06Amazon Prime's 13 lives is based on the true story of a rescue operation that involved

00:10thousands of people working together to help 13 people in getting out of a flooded cave.

00:15Directed by Ron Howard, the film traces the story from the beginning and lays out all

00:19the challenges faced by the rescuers in simple terms.

00:22It becomes clear pretty early on that this is a rescue unlike any that's been attempted

00:26before, and everyone knows that the chances of success are next to none.

00:30Out of 13 people trapped inside, if even a single one is brought out alive, the operation

00:34would be considered a success.

00:36However, that still leaves the question of how to go about it.

00:40How to save even one life when the race is against mother nature?

00:44What happens to the 13 people?

00:46How many of them are brought out alive?

00:49Let's find out and just to let you know this video will contain spoilers.

00:53Twelve boys and their football coach decide to visit the Tam Luong cave following their

00:56soccer practice.

00:58It is also the birthday of one of the boys and they decide to celebrate it in the cave

01:01before they go home and attend the party.

01:04As they walk deeper inside the cave, unbeknownst to them, rain starts to pour outside.

01:09When they don't return by the evening, the authorities are alerted, and soon a huge number

01:13of people converge outside the cave to find ways to help in the rescue.

01:17Getting trapped over a mile inside a flooded cave isn't a good sign for anyone.

01:21For 12 children to survive was considered next to impossible.

01:25When Rick Stanton arrives on the scene and looks at the state of the cave entrance, he

01:29becomes very skeptical about calling it a rescue rather than the retrieval of dead bodies.

01:34He has been on other rescues where people have been unable to survive under extreme

01:37circumstances, some of those people being trained divers.

01:41While John Volanthen tries to hold on to hope, Rick is ready to witness whatever state they

01:45find the boys in.

01:47And that's why he's in for a surprise.

01:49It is nothing short of a miracle that for 9 days the 12 boys and their young coach not

01:53only manage to stay alive but are also in a comparatively fair condition.

01:57For anyone, to be stuck in the claustrophobic environment of a cave with rising water levels

02:01and pitch darkness is enough to lose their mind.

02:04The boys, on the other hand, seem very calm and in control of their sanity when Rick and

02:08John find them.

02:10The reason behind this is their coach.

02:13Being the only adult amongst them, he stays calm and furthers that state of mind to his

02:17team.

02:18He teaches them to meditate, which allows them to let go of their fear, as much as possible.

02:23The team and its coach had no idea when, if at all, they'd be found.

02:27They knew how many days had passed since they were out in sunlight, but with water coming

02:31in from every opening and crevice, the hope of being discovered was falling with every

02:34day.

02:35Luckily, some very experienced divers from all over the world arrive for their help.

02:40The boys and the coach are found and fed, which lifts their spirits, but it still leaves

02:44the rescuers with a question, how to get 13 people with no experience in diving and

02:48very high chances of panicking out of the cave.

02:51This question hits Rick as soon as he and John find the 13 souls.

02:55They manage to stay alive, but how can they possibly dive their way out of a very treacherous

02:59cave?

03:00The one that's already claimed a life?

03:02Does everyone make it out alive?

03:05When all ideas seem to be useless, Rick proposes something that is just as dangerous but has

03:09some margin of success.

03:11He's well aware of the fact that there is no way the boys can dive out of the cave.

03:15Even if divers tried to bring them out, it was a very taxing task that required a person

03:19to be calm under all circumstances.

03:21Previously, Rick had tried to bring a man, who could swim, out of the cave.

03:26The process got the man hurt and nearly killed Rick.

03:29He knew that the boys would never be able to stay as calm as was necessary for hours

03:33on end, especially underwater with strange men they had no reason for trusting.

03:37Most of them couldn't even swim, which would give them another reason to panic as soon

03:41they stepped into the water.

03:43Considering all this, it seemed only logical to sedate the boys and then carry them like

03:46any other cargo.

03:48The divers would be in full control of the boys and even if a situation got particularly

03:52frightening, at least they wouldn't have a panicked person dragging them down.

03:56However, they needed to know the right combination of drugs that would not only keep the boys

04:00unconscious throughout the dive but also be safe for them, lest they die midway.

04:04This could only be figured out by someone with an experience in both diving as well

04:08as sedatives.

04:09Luckily, Rick knew just the man.

04:11Dr. Harry Harris was one of the only people in the world to have the right skills for

04:15the task.

04:17However, when Rick calls him, he doesn't tell him what he's planned for the rescue.

04:21Harry comes to Thailand in the capacity of a diver, but when he discovers that he has

04:25been called for his expertise in anesthetics, he becomes unsure of the entire thing.

04:30Soon, however, he realizes that there is no other better way, and if they don't act soon,

04:35whatever hope remains of saving the boys will be lost as well.

04:38Reluctantly, he agrees to administer the dose to the kids.

04:42Owing to their experience, Rick, John, Harry, and their diver friends Chris Jewell and Jason

04:46Mallinson are considered the best choice for carrying the boys out of the cave.

04:50They take the target of rescuing four each day, with Harry staying behind till the last

04:54boy of the day is sedated and brought out.

04:57While everyone is unsure of the plan, they are surprised to discover that it actually

05:00works.

05:02Jason takes the first kid out, and though he struggles a bit in the middle, he safely gets

05:05the boy out of the cave.

05:07This boosts their morale and for the next seven boys, the dive goes considerably smoothly.

05:12Things get more difficult on the third day when it starts to rain cats and dogs.

05:17They realize that this is their last chance to get not just the boys but everyone else

05:20out too.

05:22This includes the coach, one doctor, and two navy SEALs still inside the cave.

05:27There is also the problem with the gear that is too big for the youngest boy.

05:31Jason finds a way for it to fit around enough and takes him out.

05:34To his relief, they don't come across problems on the way and the boy survives.

05:39While two other boys are taken out safely, Chris finds a reason to panic when he loses

05:42touch with the rope that guides the way.

05:45If it was just him, he wouldn't have worried so much.

05:48But with a boy's life in his hands, he starts to get nervous.

05:52Still, he manages to stay calm enough to get himself and the boy to the chamber where he

05:56soon meets others.

05:58When Harry finds Chris, he decides that the best course of action would be for him to

06:01take over the boy for the rest of the dive.

06:04Eventually, all the boys and the coach make it out alive, along with the doctor and the

06:08two navy SEALs.

06:09So, while in the beginning, the divers had hoped to get at least one person out of the

06:13cave alive, they succeed in rescuing all 13 of them.
