00:00The level of water in Marikina River quickly rose due to the strong and continuous rain.
00:05Because of this, several families were forced to evacuate.
00:09Find out the update in the news center of Ryan Leziguez, live.
00:17Angelic, even though there are families who have been evacuating since this morning,
00:22the Marikina City Mayor, Marcy Chodoro, is still persuading them.
00:25To the families who live in the lower areas,
00:29they are asking to evacuate as soon as possible
00:31so that the situation here will not continue to rise.
00:40According to the Marikina City Mayor, D. R. Remo Angelic,
00:44earlier this morning at 7 a.m.,
00:46they were able to count the maximum amount of rain
00:49that reached 200 millimeters in just one hour.
00:54Even though the Marikina River was not yet raised to the first alarm at 6 a.m.,
00:59the residents of Marikina started to evacuate
01:03who live in the lower areas.
01:05This is because of the unceasing rain caused by the Enteng typhoon.
01:09One of the early evacuees earlier was Jasmine,
01:13from Barangay Malanday.
01:14Her story is that there is still no flood water in their house,
01:18but she insisted on evacuating early
01:21because of the recent typhoon
01:23that caused the flood water to reach Quisa, Manila.
01:38Aside from some personal belongings,
01:40Jasmine also tried to bring her stocks from her Sari-Sari store.
01:49How about now? Is it closed?
01:52Yes, it's closed.
01:53What if you sell here?
01:55No, there might be no space upstairs.
01:57According to the Marikina City Mayor, D. R. Remo Angelic,
02:00earlier at 11 a.m.,
02:01more than 500 families evacuated from their homes.
02:07This is equivalent to almost 3,000 individuals.
02:10The local government of Marikina assured
02:13that all evacuees' needs are ready.
02:17The rescue equipment was also placed early.
02:20Earlier, PTV News reported
02:23that their rescue personnel are preparing their equipment.
02:27According to Dave David,
02:29the chief of Marikina City D. R. R. Remo,
02:31at 7.50 a.m. earlier,
02:33the Marikina River was raised to the first alarm.
02:36More than 30 minutes later,
02:39it was raised to the second alarm.
02:42We are monitoring the areas
02:45where the water level rose rapidly.
02:48Surface flooding.
02:49These are the areas on our street.
02:51This is the volume of water we received this morning.
02:55The rainfall was very high.
02:57In a matter of one hour,
02:59at 7 a.m.,
03:00it was 200 millimeters of rain.
03:02The total rainfall in our gauging stations
03:04was very high.
03:06That's what raised the water level rapidly.
03:10It was equivalent to the height of our river,
03:13roughly around 2 meters.
03:15As the water level continues to rise in the Marikina River,
03:19a forced evacuation can be carried out.
03:22The one that caused the earthquake earlier
03:24was rescued by more than 30,000 individuals
03:28because of the flood.
03:29At the third alarm, at 18 meters,
03:32we were forced evacuated.
03:34But the term forced evacuation
03:38does not happen anymore
03:40because people are evacuating as early as first alarm,
03:43second alarm.
03:44To prove that,
03:45we evacuated a lot.
03:47Almost 3,000 people were evacuated.
03:49That's what we evacuated at the evacuation center
03:51as early as 6 a.m.
03:53Angelic, at this time,
03:55the rain continues to fall here in Marikina City.
03:59But the good news is
04:01that the amount of rain that was falling here earlier
04:06was only around 50 millimeters.
04:12Just the same,
04:13the authorities are still taking care of the residents here.
04:17Earlier, at 9.40 a.m.,
04:19Angelic, the water level was at 17.1 meters
04:22here in Marikina River.
04:24But now,
04:25it's lower and it's only at 16.6 meters.
04:30It still remains at the second alarm
04:34of the authorities here.
04:36Angelic.
04:37Okay, so it looks like the water level is going down.
04:39Is that right, Ryan?
04:40Does this mean that the residents who evacuated
04:43can go home again?
04:50Well, Angelic, you're right.
04:52It's going down from 17.1.
04:54Now, the water level is at 16.6
04:58here in Marikina River.
04:59But your question is,
05:00is it possible for them to go home?
05:02Not yet.
05:03Because what Marikina City DRRMO is currently monitoring
05:08is crucial, Angelic.
05:10From this morning until later in the afternoon,
05:13because of the storm,
05:14it's only close to the mountains
05:17that are surrounding Marikina.
05:18Actually, if Angelic is honest,
05:20the amount of rain here in Marikina is not that strong.
05:25The amount of rain is strong
05:27for the nearby towns and the mountains near Marikina.
05:31The problem is that Marikina City becomes a catch basin.
05:35This Marikina River in particular.
05:37That's why the water level is high here.
05:41That's why the local government is still monitoring
05:44and they are still asking for people to evacuate,
05:47especially the elderly,
05:49so that they don't need to be rescued.
05:51If ever, I hope that the water level here in Marikina River
05:54doesn't rise again, Angelic.
05:56Thank you very much, Ryan Lasigas.
