Destructive winds focused on the state's north and north-west, as well as flooding events damaged power networks and properties state-wide. More than 35,000 thousand residents are still without power. Some conditions are set to ease, but residents should stay across the current warnings as threatening conditions continue to loom for the coming 24 hours.

00:00The damage and destruction we saw last night was wind driven primarily, broken windows,
00:09broken roofs, a lot of downed trees and there's a lot of debris out there so we do ask everyone
00:13to continue to remain safe.
00:15We're also monitoring extensive, sorry, we're also monitoring minor and moderate flooding
00:22across the state, in particular the river systems in the north.
00:26There are currently 20 warnings that are in place with one emergency warning to evacuate
00:32which is in the Derwent River in and around the Meadowbank area.
00:40We're continuing to monitor these conditions, overnight we are expecting some damaging winds
00:45tonight.
00:46We just ask the community to stay informed, to heed the advice in relation to road closures
00:51and evacuations.
00:53If you don't need to be in those areas, please don't be there, please don't be on those roads.
00:58If you are driving on the roads in hazardous conditions, just remember your safety, remember
01:04your distance between the vehicle that you're driving and the vehicle in front of you, headlights
01:10on, slow down and be cautious.
01:13We've seen extensive damage to power lines, wires down, poles down and our crews are working
01:20tirelessly today to assess that damage and restore where we can.
01:26We will see significant delays in restoration, obviously we're working very hard with local
01:33government to provide places of safety throughout the state.
