00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're counting down our picks for the 10 best fast travel
00:14systems and mechanics from a variety of games.
00:17These fast travel systems are special because they manage to tie the fast travel into the
00:21game's lore, world, or history.
00:28Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:32the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:38Cardboard Box Delivery, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain
00:40Yep, you heard that right.
00:48Instead of generic, boring fast travel, why not just toss a cardboard box on yourself
00:52to be shipped to a new destination?
00:54Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain offers other means of travel like the helicopter
00:58or horse, but for our money, seeing Snake don a cardboard box while sitting on an orange
01:03delivery platform waiting to be picked up and delivered is just simply sublime.
01:08Just locate the various orange delivery platforms, pick up the delivery invoice, and choose your
01:12next destination.
01:13A truck will pick you up and drop you off.
01:15It's as simple and silly as that.
01:23Anvils, Atlas Fallen It's always a pleasant surprise when an
01:37open world slash open zone game ties its fast travel mechanics into the game's lore.
01:42Such is the case with the excellent AA game Atlas Fallen.
01:45Strewn all across the various maps are these magical anvils that must be discovered.
01:50The anvils are where the benevolent deity, although he's known as the God of Chaos,
01:53Nihil, hangs out while you, the protagonist, airdash and sandslide around.
01:57Nihil is infused into your magical gauntlet, so it makes sense that in order to upgrade
02:02it and your armor and some other things, as well as traverse across the worlds, you'd
02:06have to visit these anvils.
02:08Once at the anvil, you can freely fast travel between any other discovered anvil around
02:11the game's various maps.
02:22Ride the Train, Red Dead Redemption 2 Okay, yes, many players will obviously skip
02:33out on any fast travel in RDR2 given how immersive and enjoyable it can be just to either walk
02:38or ride horseback across the beautiful American West that Rockstar created.
02:42However, for those looking to fast travel in style while still ensuring a modicum of
02:47immersiveness, then be sure to buy a train ticket from a post office, hop aboard, and
02:51fast travel to your next destination.
02:53While the actual travel itself just takes place over a couple of brief cutscene loading
02:58screen things, it's still a really cool way to traverse this vast world more quickly.
03:02Plus, you can always just ride the trains for fun and relaxation as a sort of touristic
03:06way to explore the West.
03:15Hailing a Taxi, the Yakuza Series Many of the Yakuza games, while having smaller
03:34open worlds, offer up a simple fast travel system involving taxis.
03:38Yep, you can call a taxi from your smartphone or just find one waiting for a customer and
03:43then have it whisk you away to your desired location.
03:46Taking a taxi fits in perfectly with the game's various cityscape locales.
03:50While they really only just serve as fancier loading screens, it's still a cool way to
03:54immerse yourself into these living, breathing worlds.
03:57Plus, taxis just play a part in many Yakuza games in general, with the likes of the Taxi
04:01Races or the Taxi Mission, such as in Yakuza 5.
04:11Fragile Jump, Death Stranding Alright, so it should be stated up front
04:28that Death Stranding's fast travel mechanic doesn't actually open up until you get to
04:32Chapter 3, once you get to the central region.
04:35However, once you are at this part of the game, you are able to utilize the Fragile
04:38Jump mechanic via Fragile's Umbrella.
04:40It's located in your private room.
04:43Sam can then Fragile Jump to any previously visited room.
04:45It's a fantastic little in-universe way to provide for quicker traversal across the
04:50game's regions.
04:51However, it is worth noting that the Fragile Jump can only be used to transport Sam, not
04:55any cargo supplies and the like.
05:05Setting Up Camp for the Night, Greedfall Ah yes, nothing beats the great outdoors,
05:15especially when Desarde and pals are out adventuring the alternate fantasy American lands.
05:20Greedfall's take on fast travel comes in the form of setting up camp, instead of just
05:24letting you fast travel around with no in-game reason, you must seek out campfires that denote
05:29locations where camp can actually be set up.
05:31Now, setting up camp in Greedfall does more than just offer the ability to fast travel.
05:36Your camp allows you and your team to interact, swap out party members, craft items, upgrade
05:40gear, and generally just rest, away from the cares of the outside world.
05:44Now, if only we had some s'mores to cook up over that fire.
05:56Utilizing Signposts, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
06:09Probably one of the most immersive examples of an in-universe fast travel system, The
06:13Witcher 3 Wild Hunt only lets Geralt move about this sprawling game world via fast travel
06:18once he has discovered relevant signpost markers.
06:21Yep, in order to actually fast travel around in The Witcher 3, you must take the time to
06:25find signpost markers.
06:27These in-game markers not only guide you to local spots such as villages and cities, but
06:31they also serve as unlocked fast travel points.
06:34When you are ready to fast travel, simply head to one of the myriad signposts in the
06:38world and choose your next destination.
06:51The Stagways, Hollow Knight
06:59Hollow Knight has its very own fast travel network in the form of the Stagways.
07:03Littered all across Hallownest are various stag stations.
07:06Visiting each station allows the knight to ring a bell and hop aboard these gentle giants
07:10to zip you across the game's expansive map.
07:12They really come in handy as you continue to open up new areas or backtrack to previously
07:17inaccessible parts, given that this game is of course a deeply rewarding metroidvania.
07:22The stags are there to help you get around Hallownest, and it's in your best interest
07:25to seek out each station.
07:27Plus, the stags provide extra lore and narrative context if you take the time to listen to
07:31each one of them.
07:42Exploring NYC's Boroughs, Marvel's Spider-Man 2
08:01Much like The Witcher 3's take on fast travel where you must actually get to know a region
08:05before fast traveling, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 only lets Peter Parker and Miles Morales
08:09swiftly zip around New York City's varied boroughs by actually first visiting them.
08:14Once you have visited a part of the sprawling cityscape, you can then instantaneously fast
08:18travel at will.
08:19Seriously, it's just so crazy how darn fast this fast travel works.
08:22However, it's tempered by the fact that you actually need to first discover a part
08:26of the map, which definitely helps build immersion in the game.
08:29Sure, web swinging and web gliding through NYC is an utter blast, meaning you might opt
08:33to just skip fast travel altogether, and for good reason.
08:36But for those who just need to get to their destination, then you can get there near instantaneously
08:40via fast travel.
08:53Flu Flames Hogwarts Legacy
09:01I guess it's really no surprise that one of the best games of 2023 just so happens
09:05to also feature an incredibly immersive and enjoyable fast travel system, namely Flu Flames.
09:11This in-universe fast travel mechanic is spot on, ensuring Harry Potter fans are treated
09:15to some lovely fanservice given the whole flu powder slash flu travel slash flu flame
09:20thing we are used to from the Potter universe.
09:22In Hogwarts Legacy, there are a sheer smorgasbord of Flu Flame locations all across this gorgeously
09:28detailed open world.
09:29Once you have discovered a new one, it then acts as a fast travel beacon to utilize when
09:33necessary.
09:34I mean, yeah, sure, you might not want to use them since flying around on your broom
09:37is an utter delight, but hey, it's still always a treat to stumble across one in this
09:41top-notch detailed game world.
09:50So do you agree with our picks for this list?
09:53Fast traveling in open world games is often divisive since it can break immersion, however
09:57these games showcase that these mechanics can be tied to great in-world reasons.
10:02So are there any awesome fast travel systems that we missed?
10:04Be sure to let us know down in the comments.
