00:00Germany's chancellor says foreign-born criminals will be deported a week after a Syrian asylum
00:07seeker killed three people.
00:14Germany's chancellor Olaf Scholz has called the return of 28 Afghan nationals to Afghanistan
00:20a clear sign that foreign-born people convicted of the crime will be deported.
00:26A government spokesperson said on Friday that they were all convicted criminals but did
00:30not say what their offences were.
00:33It is the first time Germany has deported Afghan nationals to their homeland since the
00:37Taliban returned to power in 2021.
00:41Germany does not have diplomatic relations with the group, which required the government
00:45to work through other channels to organise the deportations.
00:49They come a week after a deadly knife attack in the town of Solingen left three people
00:53dead and eight others seriously wounded.
00:57The suspect, named by prosecutors as Issa El-H, is a Syrian citizen who had applied
01:02for asylum in Germany.
01:04He was arrested on suspicion of murder and membership of a terrorist organisation.
01:09The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for last Friday's attack without providing
01:14evidence.
01:19The number of injured continues to rise following a deadly Russian attack on the Ukrainian city
01:24of Kharkiv.
01:26Six people were killed in that attack, according to the city's authorities.
01:30Writing on social media, officials said the number of injured initially reported as 47
01:36had since increased to 96.
01:40Russian shelling in the frontline Ukrainian town of Khasiv Yar killed at least five people,
01:46according to the regional governor.
01:47The attack reportedly hit a high-rise building and a private home, killing men aged between
01:5324 and 38.
01:55Local authorities urged remaining civilians in the town to leave the frontline, saying
02:00normal life was impossible in the area.
02:05Across the Russian border, at least five people were killed and dozens more injured after
02:10Ukrainian shelling hit the city of Belgorod.
02:14The regional governor said 46 civilians were injured by the shelling, 37 of whom were hospitalised.
02:20Cluster munitions and deadly vampire MLRs were used in the attack, according to that
02:26official.
02:31A helicopter returning from firefighting in northern Portugal has crashed into the Douro
02:36River killing at least four people.
02:39The helicopter was carrying five members of the emergency protection and relief unit.
02:45Only the pilot has so far survived with a search underway for a fifth person.
02:50The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
02:55Portugal's Prime Minister Luiz Montenegro said a day of national mourning had been called
02:59for Saturday.
03:03A Supreme Court justice in Brazil has ordered the suspension of social media platform X
03:11after its chief Elon Musk refused to name a legal representative in the country.
03:16Justice Alexandre de Moraes warned Musk on Wednesday that X could be blocked if he failed
03:21to comply with his order and set a 24-hour deadline.
03:25X hasn't had a representative in Brazil since earlier this month.
03:29In his decision, de Moraes said Elon Musk showed his total disrespect for Brazilian
03:34sovereignty and in particular for the judiciary.
03:37The full bench of the Supreme Court is expected to rule on the case, but no date for deliberations
03:42has been set.
03:44In a post on X, Musk slammed de Moraes as an evil dictator cosplaying as a judge.
03:50But in a radio interview on Friday night, Brazil's President Luiz InΓ‘cio Lula da Silva
03:55said everyone with investments in Brazil must abide by the law and respect Supreme
04:00Court rulings.
04:06More than 100 tons of dead fish has washed into the central port of Volos.
04:11The freshwater fish have filled both the bay and nearby rivers after they were displaced
04:15from their normal habitats by flooding last year.
04:19Fishing trawlers have been chartered by regional authorities along with earthmovers to scoop
04:24the fish out of the sea and load them onto trucks where they will be taken to an incinerator.
04:43Water levels rose abruptly last autumn during a storm that caused extensive flooding in
04:48central Greece but have since receded due to low rainfall and successive heat waves
04:52this summer.
04:54Experts say a net wasn't placed at the mouth of the river leading into Volos, so when the
04:58freshwater fish were carried with the flood water, they died when they came into contact
05:03with seawater.
05:04The mayor of Volos accused regional authorities of acting too slowly and said the rotting
05:09fish could cause an environmental disaster.
05:13And the city's Chamber of Commerce said it was taking legal action to seek damages after
05:17commercial activity in the popular tourist destination dropped by an estimated 80 percent
05:22over the last three days.
