00:00The early bird. On the island of Sodor, all of the engines on the Fat Controller's railway are busy.
00:10Gordon pulls the express, Percy delivers the mail, and Thomas puffs and chuffs cheerfully on his branch line.
00:21One morning, Thomas' fireman fanned his firebox ready for work.
00:27Thomas saw that his best friend Percy wasn't there.
00:31Good morning, James. Have you seen Percy?
00:34No, I have too much to do to see Percy.
00:37Then the Fat Controller arrived.
00:41Thomas, Percy has popped a piston. He has to go to the steamworks to be fixed.
00:47Percy won't be able to deliver the mail tomorrow morning. You must do it for him.
00:53Thomas was excited. He had never delivered the mail before. He tooted his whistle loudly.
01:00Yes, sir. I've always wanted to deliver the mail.
01:04Make sure you do a good job, Thomas.
01:07Of course I will, sir. Don't worry, sir.
01:12Then Thomas puffed proudly away to his branch line.
01:17Thomas stopped at a crossing. Gordon was there.
01:22Percy is being fixed tomorrow. I'm going to deliver the mail run for him.
01:27Percy's mail run? Have you asked Percy how to do it?
01:31Don't worry, Gordon. I know all about delivering the mail.
01:35Do you indeed?
01:38Then the gate opened and Thomas puffed quickly away.
01:48Thomas worked hard all day.
01:53That night, he went to see Percy at the steamworks. Percy didn't look happy.
02:01Is your piston fixed, Percy?
02:03No, it's still broken.
02:06Don't worry. I'm going to do your mail run tomorrow.
02:10Thank you, Thomas. Shall I tell you what to do?
02:13I know what to do, Percy. Now, I have to go to sleep. I shall be up very early.
02:19I have to go to sleep. I shall be up very early.
02:22Well, if you're sure, Thomas.
02:25Very sure, Percy. I have to go back to Tidmouth now. I need lots of sleep. Goodbye.
02:33Percy watched as Thomas chuffed away.
02:36The next morning, Thomas woke up very early. He felt very proud to be pulling the mail trucks.
02:45There wasn't a peep to be heard as Thomas chuffed across the island.
02:51Everyone was fast asleep.
02:54First, Thomas puffed to the quarry.
02:58I must let the quarry manager know that the mail is here.
03:02Thomas was excited. He blew his whistle very loudly.
03:11And then he chuffed cheerfully away.
03:16Thomas hadn't seen that his loud whistle had woken up Mavis.
03:22Who's making that noise?
03:26Next, Thomas chuffed to the docks.
03:30I must let the dock manager know that the mail is here.
03:33Thomas was excited. He blew his whistle even louder.
03:40And then he chuffed cheerfully away.
03:44What Thomas hadn't seen was that his good morning whistle had woken Cranky up.
03:52Who woke me up?
03:56This is fun!
04:03Lastly, Thomas steamed into the steamworks.
04:07I must let the steamworks manager know that the mail is here.
04:11Thomas was so excited he blew his whistle louder than ever.
04:20And then he huffed happily away.
04:24What Thomas hadn't seen was that he had woken Victor and Kevin up.
04:30What's that noise, boss?
04:33Who knows, Kevin, who knows? Some early bird.
04:38Thomas worked hard all morning.
04:42Everywhere Thomas went he blew his whistle loudly.
04:51Delivering the mail is fun!
04:55Soon Thomas had delivered all the mail.
04:59It was time for him to puff back to Tidmouth Sheds for a rest.
05:03As Thomas passed through the quarry, he saw Mavis.
05:07Her trucks were being loaded with slate.
05:10Then there was trouble.
05:13Mavis hadn't lined up her trucks under the hopper.
05:17Slate spilled everywhere.
05:21That's strange. Mavis never makes mistakes.
05:26What Thomas didn't see was that Mavis was fast asleep under the hopper.
05:31That's why she had put the trucks in the wrong place.
05:36Next, Thomas passed through the docks.
05:39Cranky was unloading some big crates from a ship.
05:43Then there was trouble.
05:45Cranky dropped the crates.
05:48They fell to the ground with a smash and a crash.
05:52That's strange. Cranky never makes mistakes.
05:55What Thomas didn't see was that Cranky dropped the crates.
06:00What Mavis didn't see was that Cranky had fallen fast asleep.
06:05That's why he had dropped the crates.
06:09Thomas pulled into Tidmouth Sheds.
06:12He wanted to tell Percy all about the mail delivery.
06:16But Percy wasn't there.
06:18The Fat Controller was there.
06:21He was cross.
06:23Someone woke Mavis up too early by tooting too loudly on their whistle.
06:29Everyone woke up Cranky at the docks and Victor at the steamworks.
06:33Now they have all made silly mistakes.
06:36Thomas knew he had woken everyone up with his cheerful whistle.
06:41He felt terrible.
06:43I'm very sorry, sir. It was me.
06:46Then, Thomas, as Percy is still not fixed, you must do a better job tomorrow.
06:53I will, sir. I promise, sir.
06:56Then, Gordon arrived.
06:59He had heard all about Thomas' trouble with the mail run.
07:04You were right, Gordon. Delivering the mail is a hard job.
07:08I should have asked Percy what to do.
07:10And this time, I will.
07:13That evening, Thomas visited Percy at the steamworks.
07:18He asked him all about delivering the mail.
07:22And Percy told him all about being quiet.
07:26The next morning, Thomas set off early, pulling the mail truck.
07:32He stopped at the quarry.
07:34This time, he didn't blow his whistle.
07:37He puffed very quietly so that he didn't wake Mavis.
07:43Next, Thomas stopped at the docks.
07:46He didn't blow his whistle here either.
07:49And he didn't wake Cranky up.
07:54Lastly, Thomas puffed into the steamworks.
07:59He dropped off the mail, and he didn't blow his whistle once.
08:05Victor stayed fast asleep.
08:08But Percy had woken up early to see his best friend, Thomas.
08:14Well done, Thomas. You did everything right.
08:18Thank you, Percy. Now I know the most important thing about delivering the mail.
08:23You have to do it quietly.
08:25Percy was so happy for his friend that he wanted to toot out loud.
08:31Then he looked at Thomas. Thomas had fallen fast asleep.
08:36Sleep well, Thomas.
08:37And Thomas snored the sleep of an engine who had done a very good job.
