00:00As a retired headteacher, I totally, totally disagree with taking children out of school
00:09during term time. It's difficult, I know, financially for parents, but I think the education
00:22that they lose. I remember vividly parents that didn't return their children in the autumn
00:31term on September the 2nd or the 3rd because they'd got cheaper holidays. Those children
00:36that were out of school for 10 days never, ever caught up and they had socialisation
00:41problems because they went in the class that they were with in the first 10 days of school.
00:48My family were part of it. We used to, you know, take some time out of school. I think
00:51it's important to experience a lot of different things in life, especially outside of school.
00:55I don't think school measures people properly. I don't think grades are any good. I think
01:01it doesn't teach anybody anything in life. Yeah, I think it's only a week or two weeks
01:08that they're missing of schooling so they can catch up and it's because they push the
01:13prices up out of term time. So, people are happy to pay the fines, really. So, I'd say
01:22they get permission, try and get permission. No, I don't support her comments. I think
01:29education is incredibly important. Time that children spend outside of school and, you
01:35know, you've got, I appreciate the holiday, I've got a daughter, I appreciate holidays
01:39cost far more, you know, outside of the school, within the school holiday periods. But no,
01:44yeah, they do spend time in school, particularly sort of children of my daughter's age where
01:50they've already missed so much with the pandemic and things like that. I think it's actually
01:53more important now than possibly ever that they're in school.
