00:00So, as we mentioned, today we are going to learn about the plant parts and their functions.
00:10Okay, so plants have six parts.
00:18Alright, so how many plant parts are there?
00:22Yeah, six. There are six plant parts.
00:30The first three help plants get water, make food, and grow.
00:40They are roots, stems, and leaves.
00:50The second three help plants grow new plants.
00:55They are flowers, fruit, and seeds.
01:08So let's learn the plant parts one by one.
01:16First, the parts that help the plant get water, make food, and grow.
01:23Okay, so the first plant part we are going to look at today are the roots.
01:31Roots have a special job. You see, roots hold the plant in the soil. The soil is the dirt in the ground.
01:42Then, roots bring water and nutrients from the soil to the plant.
01:53Roots are usually underground, but can be above ground too.
01:58Have you ever seen a tree that looks like this where the roots are above ground?
02:06Remember, the roots hold the plant to the soil.
02:12Okay, so now we are going to look at the second part of a plant, which are the stems.
02:18Now the stems hold the plant up above ground.
02:26The stems carry water and food through the plant.
02:38Stems are the delivery system of the plant.
02:43Roots get water and nutrients from the soil, and the stems carry the water and nutrients throughout the plant.
02:54Remember, the stem holds the plant above ground.
03:02The next part of the plant we are going to learn today are leaves.
03:07The leaves are on the end of the stems of plants.
03:16And this is interesting. Leaves are where plants make most of their food.
03:24Leaves take in air, and they use air, water, and sunlight to make food.
03:31Remember, leaves are on the end of the stems.
03:40Okay, so next, the parts that help the plant make new plants.
03:48The next part we are going to look at are flowers.
03:53Look at our flowers.
04:00Flowers, like leaves, grow on the end of the stems.
04:07Flowers are often the most colorful part of the plant.
04:14Okay, now this is awesome. The rich colors of flowers help attract pollinators.
04:21That's why they're beautiful. The beauty has a purpose.
04:26After getting pollinated, flowers can make seeds and fruit.
04:34Do you love fruit? Yes, fruit is awesome!
04:39You have flowers to thank for that. Flowers make fruit.
04:45So the next time you're eating an amazing piece of fruit, just think to yourself,
04:49Thank you, flowers. Thank you, flowers.
04:58Remember, flowers are the colorful growths on the stems.
05:04The plant we're going to learn about is the fruit.
05:10Aware on the plant is the fruit. Fruit hangs on the end of stems.
05:20Now, you might be wondering, what's the fruit's job? What does the fruit do?
05:25Well, the fruit's job is to hold the seeds.
05:28The fruit is just a delicious seed holder.
05:37Now, either one of two things happens to fruit. Fruit is either picked and eaten,
05:42or it falls off the plant and rots.
05:49Remember, fruit is the tasty stuff on the stems.
05:54Okay, the last part of the plant that we're going to learn today are the seeds.
06:02Seeds hide inside of the fruit.
06:12Now, the seeds have an incredible job. You see, seeds grow into new plants.
06:19Okay, you might be wondering, well, how does that work?
06:27Well, here's one way. When animals eat fruit, they eat the seeds.
06:32Later, the seeds leave the animal through its waste wherever the animal is.
06:38This is called dispersal.
06:43Or, fruit falls from the tree and rots. The word rots means dies. The fruit dies. It rots.
06:50The seeds fall out and can make a new plant.
06:54The first way, called dispersal, takes the seed to another place, so it plants a new plant in a new place.
07:01When a fruit falls and rots, it becomes a new plant.
07:07Remember, seeds live inside of the fruit.
07:16Hey, it looked like you were doing a good job paying attention, learning about the plant parts.
07:21And now we want to see how much fruit there is inside of the fruit.
07:26Okay, let's see how much fruit there is inside of the fruit.
07:30Hey, it looked like you were doing a good job paying attention, learning about the plant parts.
07:34And now we want to see how much you learned.
07:44We're going to play a game called Name the Plant Part.
07:48We're going to show you a plant part, and then you go ahead and tell us which plant part it is.
08:00Alright, hope you're ready because here we go.
08:03Look at this picture of a plant. Which plant part is colored in?
08:11Uh-huh. The fruit. The fruit of this plant. Great job.
08:25Here's the next one. What plant part is colored in?
08:30Yeah, the leaves. The leaves are colored in. Great job.
08:47Alright, it's time for this one. It's colored brown. Which plant part is this?
08:53Uh-huh. The roots. Awesome.
09:11Okay, let's try this one. What part of the plant is colored in?
09:17Do you see it there on the bottom? What is that?
09:24Yeah, what part is that? Yes, the seeds.
09:36Let's try this one. Look at the picture. Could you name the plant part?
09:43Which plant part is that? You can see it's outlined in color.
09:49Yeah, the flowers. Awesome job.
09:55Alright, here's our last one. Which plant part is this?
10:05Yes, it's the stem. Good job. Woo-hoo!
10:12I think you learned those plant parts so well. And it was great having you.
10:23I hope that it was helpful to you. And we hope to see you next time.
