00:00Blast off for another exciting adventure in outer space with Scott McCloud, Space Angel,
00:19in the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
00:23Of all the many dangers involved in space navigation, one of the worst is uncharted
00:27asteroids.
00:29These deadly missiles from outer space can destroy even the largest cargo ship, therefore
00:34it is of the utmost importance that they be charted upon the space charts of the solar
00:38system.
00:46It's in us all right, five miles thick and nearly 15 miles long.
00:51Its true course has never been plotted.
00:53Didn't it nearly collide with Earth once, Professor?
00:55Came dangerously close once.
00:57That was in 1931.
00:59It seems to be on a new orbit now.
01:02Don't all asteroids follow a fixed orbit?
01:04Not Eros.
01:05No one has been able to chart her accurately.
01:08It's almost as though she has a mind of her own.
01:11Don't most women?
01:12I have a theory about the erratic behavior of Eros.
01:15What's that, Professor?
01:16If I'm not mistaken, that asteroid has a small gravity field.
01:20This could account for her change in course.
01:23Makes sense, Skipper.
01:24Why, yes.
01:25If Eros passed a planet like Earth in her orbit, she'd be slightly attracted.
01:31She seems to have a life all her own, and amazingly enough, Eros is growing.
01:37And that I don't understand.
01:39Scott, based on this information, how about going out and charting her new course?
01:44We should be able to intercept it in the area of the Van Allen Belt.
01:48We'll blast off immediately.
01:50Clear the tube for blast off.
01:56Strapped in, gang?
01:57Go here.
01:58Aye, Skipper.
02:02Launch control.
02:03We're ready for countdown.
02:05Roger, Starduster.
02:06Control ready and counting.
02:11Reactors, go.
02:12Umbilical, go.
02:13Cabin pressure, go.
02:15Tube doors opening.
02:20Angle of blast, two, three, zero.
02:24Vector four.
02:25Correcting angle.
02:29Trajectory, go.
02:30A.B. temperature, go.
02:32Increasing power.
02:49How's the angle, Chris?
02:56Trajectory perfect.
02:57Acceleration, 15 units.
03:09Okay, kids.
03:10Line your stations and let's see if we can find that frisky asteroid.
03:14Scott, the evening star is trying to contact us on channel 37.
03:17Right, Chris.
03:18Starduster here.
03:19What's up, Professor Mace?
03:20Scott, there are heavy sunspot eruptions taking place.
03:24That means increased radiation in the Van Allen Belts.
03:27Once the radiation counts closely, you may have to change your point of rendezvous with Eros.
03:32Don't see how we can, Professor.
03:34If your theory is right, Eros will change course when it reaches the Van Allen Belt.
03:39We'll have to pick it up on the other side or take the chance of missing completely.
03:43Well, don't risk your life going through that belt.
03:46If the radiation gets too hot, turn back.
03:49Okay, Professor.
03:50We'll be careful.
03:52Starduster out.
03:53Evening star out.
03:57We're approaching the outer belt now, Skipper.
04:00Chris, how much radiation?
04:024.4.
04:03Not much higher than usual.
04:04We'll be through it before we can do any harm.
04:11What's the danger point, Skipper?
04:13Ten even.
04:14We're exposed too long.
04:15Give us a rating, Chris.
04:169.3 and rising.
04:189.4.
04:209.5.
04:21How about it, Skipper?
04:22Brace yourselves, kids.
04:24We're blasting out of here.
04:37Scott, the radiation is still on the increase.
04:40It's 9.9.
04:41Something's wrong.
04:42Cosmic disturbance dead ahead, Skipper.
04:45Ten and still rising, Scott.
04:51The Starduster is being exposed to extremely dangerous radioactivity.
04:55What will happen to Scott and his friends?
04:57Don't miss the next exciting episode of Space Angel.
05:14Blast off for another exciting adventure in outer space with Scott McCloud, Space Angel,
05:20in the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
05:31Last time, Scott, Taurus, and Crystal blasted off, heading for the asteroid Eros in order
05:35to chart its course.
05:37As they flew through the Van Allen radiation belt, the Starduster was exposed to extremely
05:41dangerous radioactivity.
05:48Give us a radiation reading, Chris.
05:5011.3 and still rising.
05:52We can't ride through this much longer.
05:54Is there a call signal?
05:56Must be Professor Mace.
05:57Starduster here.
05:58Come in, Professor.
06:00What's wrong out there, Scott?
06:02My tracking instruments record high radiation.
06:04They read right.
06:06Our radiation reading is over maximum safety limits.
06:09What is your reading at the moment?
06:11Reading, Chris.
06:1212 even.
06:13Still going up.
06:14That's bad business, Scott.
06:16Don't take any chances.
06:17Get into the radiation chamber and ride this out.
06:20The sunspots must have created a solar storm.
06:23Those are solar flare particles we're dealing with.
06:25Roger, Professor.
06:27Out here.
06:28I'm setting the Starduster on automatic.
06:30Everybody into the radiation chamber.
06:31How about Eros, Skipper?
06:33Aren't we getting close?
06:34Can't worry about that.
06:36We've already been dangerously exposed to radiation.
06:38Come on, slowpokes.
06:39You're just asking for trouble.
06:53We're safe here.
06:54Radiation factor reads negative.
06:56Hard to believe she's sizzling outside.
06:58All we've got to worry about is the possibility of meeting Eros head on.
07:02We'll never know it, Skipper.
07:04Not in here.
07:05Now that's a nice cheery little thought.
07:07Her velocity was 1,000 space units.
07:10At that rate of speed, we should be able to pass through this stuff in another five units.
07:15With Eros closing on us, that's a mighty long time, Skipper.
07:18Right.
07:19The A.R.I. will tell us when it's safe to leave this chamber.
07:22What's the matter, lass?
07:24You look all in.
07:25I don't know, Mr. Bell.
07:26Oh, I feel so drowsy.
07:28Oh, that's a woman for you, Skipper.
07:30Right in the middle of...
07:32They've fallen asleep.
07:36It must be catching.
07:38There's something wrong here.
07:42It's beginning to affect me.
07:45It's got the oxygen.
07:47Can't be right.
07:49Oxygen is normal.
07:52But something's definitely wrong.
07:55I must stay awake.
07:58Evening Star to Starduster.
08:00Evening Star to Starduster.
08:02Come in, Scott.
08:03Come in, Scott.
08:04They're in the radiation chamber.
08:06But surely Scott would switch on the auxiliary speaker in there.
08:09Evening Star to Starduster.
08:10Come in, Scott.
08:11Come in, Scott.
08:18Scott, Crystal.
08:19Crystal, are you all right?
08:21What's happened?
08:23Oxygen OK, but...
08:25I just can't figure this out.
08:27Why we can't breathe.
08:29Our CO2 converter system.
08:31The circulator's out.
08:33Warning lab failed us.
08:34We're breathing our own exhale.
08:37We could have suffocated.
08:43Kipper, what happened?
08:45We were asleep.
08:47Hold it, Scott.
08:48Listen.
08:49Our converter fan was off.
08:51In free fall, our breath just hung around us.
08:54It had no place to go.
08:56Evening Star calling Starduster.
08:58Scott, Crystal, come in, please.
09:01Calling Scott McCloud.
09:02Come in, please.
09:03This is Professor Mace.
09:04Professor Mace.
09:06Sorry for the delay.
09:07Had a little trouble here.
09:09OK now.
09:10Scott, I can't locate Eros.
09:12Terrible interference.
09:14Was she still on course when you lost contact?
09:16Yes, but that was some time ago.
09:18You better work fast.
09:20We're approaching rendezvous.
09:22Taurus, check environment.
09:24Aye, Skipper.
09:25Outside radiation approaching normal, Skipper.
09:28Good.
09:29Let's get back to our stations.
09:34Now remember, Taurus.
09:35We just want to find Eros.
09:37We don't want to hit it.
09:39I got you, Skipper.
09:40But I can't see anything out there anywhere but space.
09:47Has Eros changed course again?
09:50If so, where is it headed this time?
09:52Don't miss the next exciting episode of Space Angels.
10:15Blast off for another exciting adventure in outer space with Scott McCloud's Space Angels
10:21in the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
10:31Last time, Scott, Taurus, and Crystal, on their way to chart the course of the asteroid Eros,
10:36were exposed to extremely dangerous radiation.
10:39While they were in the de-radiation chamber of the starduster,
10:42Professor Mace reported that he had lost radar contact with the asteroid.
10:55Still not a thing, Skipper.
10:57Chris?
10:58Negative.
10:59I've scanned the whole sector and she's simply not around.
11:01I can't understand it.
11:03Eros has to be somewhere in the vicinity of Earth.
11:06That asteroid is awfully fickle, Skipper.
11:09Maybe she decided to visit Mars instead.
11:11Hold it, Taurus.
11:12Here's Professor Mace.
11:13Come in, Professor.
11:14I've picked her up, Scott.
11:16Eros is in orbit around the moon.
11:18When she hit that cosmic storm, she must have been deflected on a tangent.
11:22No wonder we couldn't find her.
11:24The Earth was blocking our scanner.
11:26Circle in the moon, eh?
11:28See, Skipper, I told you she was fickle.
11:30Eros is in a tight elliptical orbit and very unstable.
11:34She's a real menace to space traffic in that area, Scott.
11:36We'll get right over there, Professor.
11:38Out here.
11:42Skipper.
11:55Moon dead ahead, Skipper.
11:57Now coming into view.
11:59No Eros, though.
12:00Probably around the back.
12:02There she comes now.
12:04The professor wasn't kidding.
12:05That asteroid is in a tight orbit.
12:07Now that's the darndest thing I've ever seen, Skipper.
12:10Her orbital pattern changes each time around.
12:13What do you think, lad?
12:15One thing for sure, Taurus.
12:17It's blocking every approach to the moon.
12:19A pilot would be out of his mind if he tried to land on it.
12:22Know what I think, Skipper?
12:24Charting that crazy asteroid is a waste of time.
12:27You're right.
12:29Chris, get me Professor Mace.
12:31Yes, Scott. Right away.
12:37That's right, Professor.
12:39Eros cannot be charted.
12:41Then we really have no choice, Scott.
12:43We've got to get rid of her.
12:45I read you, Professor.
12:47Out here.
12:48Have you heard the professor?
12:50We're going to have to get rid of Eros.
12:52Good idea, Skipper.
12:53But first, we've got to catch her.
12:55Then hang on, gang.
12:57The fireworks are about to start.
13:10What's our range, Chris?
13:12300 astroleaks, Scott.
13:14And closing in fast, Skipper.
13:21There goes Eros.
13:23She's holding pretty steady now.
13:25Stand by.
13:26I'm going to try to match her course and speed.
13:40Eros, stand ahead, Skipper.
13:48Skipper, look out.
13:50Eros is erupting.
13:52Volcanic blasts. Hang on.
13:54Emergency. Full speed. All engines.
14:06Where's Eros?
14:07She's headed for the moon.
14:12Holy cow, it's bounced off.
14:24Hang on.
14:25Eros has a new course.
14:27Good heavens, she's headed towards Earth.
14:29Oh, no.
14:31We've got to stop it.
14:38A wild asteroid plunging through space.
14:41Can Scott prevent Eros from colliding with Earth?
14:44Don't miss the next exciting episode of Space Angels.
15:08Blast off for another exciting adventure in outer space
15:11with Scott McCloud, Space Angel,
15:14in the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
15:23Last time, Scott, Taurus, and Crystal
15:25had located the erratic asteroid in orbit around the moon.
15:28It was decided that Eros could not be charted
15:31and was a real menace to space traffic,
15:33so it must be destroyed.
15:35As they closed in on the asteroid,
15:37Eros erupted and, changing course,
15:39headed straight for Earth.
15:47We're gaining on that wild asteroid.
15:49Uh-oh. There go those blasted jets again, Skipper.
15:52She's changing course, Scott. Almost 45 degrees.
15:55Chris, get me Professor Mace.
15:57That asteroid's now gone completely wild.
15:59Right, Scott.
16:00Stardust are calling the evening stars.
16:03That's it, Professor.
16:04No telling what Eros will do next.
16:07We've got a volcanic asteroid on our hands.
16:10That's very serious, Scott.
16:12Those blasts coming from Eros
16:14could force her into one of the planets,
16:16maybe hit a city.
16:21Scott, Eros is changing course again.
16:24Good. Go.
16:26Go.
16:28Scott, Eros is changing course again.
16:31Good golly.
16:33She's going into Vector 6,
16:34headed directly for the evening star.
16:36Professor Mace,
16:37Eros is now heading for the evening star.
16:40I know, Scott.
16:41My radarscope's warning system is at work.
16:43She's getting awfully close, son.
16:58No.
16:59Eros must have struck the evening star.
17:01Dad.
17:02Oh, Dad.
17:03Professor Mace, are you all right?
17:06Come in, please.
17:07Are you all right, Professor?
17:08Come in.
17:13Good grief. There she is.
17:15Look at that.
17:16What a mess.
17:18Dad, he has to be okay.
17:20He has to be.
17:21Hold it.
17:22I think this is the Professor.
17:24He's coming in on audio.
17:26Hello, Starduster.
17:28This is Evening Star.
17:30He's on the emergency frequency.
17:32This is Professor Mace.
17:34Come in.
17:35Scott.
17:36It's Dad.
17:37Oh, thank heavens.
17:39Go ahead, Professor.
17:40I'm okay.
17:42Eros just brushed us.
17:44Evening Star was shaken up a bit.
17:47But we'll be okay, Scott.
17:48We're repairing the damage now.
17:50You get that asteroid
17:51before she does any more damage.
17:53Will do, Professor.
17:54Out here.
18:09She's lined up, Skipper.
18:11Stand by to drop the thermal package.
18:13Chris, open hatch.
18:15Right, Scott.
18:17Hatch open.
18:25She's down, lad.
18:30I'll make this as quick as possible.
18:32As soon as I activate that firecracker,
18:35I'll get Alpha Eros.
18:37We'll rendezvous as planned.
18:39Be careful, Scott.
18:40Watch out for that asteroid.
18:42I'll get Alpha Eros.
18:44We'll rendezvous as planned.
18:46Be careful, Scott.
18:47Watch out for that asteroid.
18:49I'll get Alpha Eros.
18:51We'll rendezvous as planned.
18:53Watch out for that asteroid, Skipper.
18:55She's tricky.
19:01Stand by to launch spacecraft.
19:17I'm at the thermal package.
19:19About to arm bomb.
19:20Hurry, Skipper.
19:21That asteroid can change course at any time.
19:23There.
19:24She's activated.
19:26Taurus, I'm ready to head back.
19:32Stand by, folks.
19:34She's beginning to erupt again, Skipper.
19:36Get off.
19:37Get off.
19:39Jump, Skipper.
19:40Space dark's gone.
19:42He's stranded, Chris.
19:44Scott can't get off Eros.
19:47Oh, no.
19:49Scott trapped on a volcanic asteroid.
19:51Can he be rescued before the thermal bomb explodes?
19:54Don't miss the next exciting episode of Space Angels.
20:00Last stop for another exciting adventure in outer space with Scott McCloud, Space Angels,
20:06in the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
20:12Last time, you remember the decision was made to destroy the Wild Asteroid.
20:16The decision was made to destroy the Wild Asteroid.
20:19The decision was made to destroy the Wild Asteroid.
20:22The decision was made to destroy the Wild Asteroid.
20:25Last time, you remember the decision was made to destroy the Wild Asteroid, Eros.
20:30Scott landed in a space dark and activated the thermal bomb.
20:33Just at that moment, Eros erupted and the space dark was demolished, leaving Scott stranded.
20:48Skipper, are you okay?
20:50Come in, lad.
20:51All right for the moment, Taurus.
20:52Things are getting rough.
20:54Stand by, lad.
20:55We're coming for you.
20:56No, no, you old bull.
20:58No sense all of us getting in.
20:59Stay out of here.
21:00That's an order.
21:01Skipper, this is one time I'm glad to disobey an order.
21:04Now, if we don't make it in time, you can court-martial me.
21:14Lower the bosun's chair, Chris.
21:16Right, Taurus.
21:25Skipper.
21:44Chair down, Taurus.
21:45Good girl, Chris.
21:47The skipper's climbing in.
21:49Now, if we can get him aboard before that bomb goes off.
21:52Okay, here, Taurus.
21:53Go ahead.
21:54Gotcha, Skipper.
21:55Hang on.
22:04Easy does it, Chris.
22:22He's gone, Taurus.
22:23Scott's lost in space.
22:25Quick.
22:26Get him on the radar scope.
22:28Pinpoint his position.
22:29Radar scope activated.
22:31It's no use, Taurus.
22:32I'm picking up debris from Eros.
22:34I can't tell which blip is Scott.
22:36Hang on, Carol.
22:37I'm going after him.
22:53Calling the Starduster.
22:55Get in, please.
22:57It's no use.
22:59My transmitter's out.
23:05That's about it, Professor.
23:07Scott's adrift somewhere out there.
23:09Taurus, I think we can get a fix on Scott through triangulation.
23:13Use his environment indicator and set your course.
23:16I'll do the same from here.
23:18Chris, stand by to chart his position.
23:21Right, Dad.
23:22Start anytime.
23:29I found him, Taurus.
23:31We found him, Professor.
23:33Contact later and thanks.
23:35Out here.
23:42Stand by retros, Chris.
23:44I've spotted the Skipper on the viewer.
23:46He's indicating his transmitter's out, Chris.
23:48Prepare to pick him up.
23:50Stand by, the Skipper's A-OK.
23:57There's Eros now.
23:59Heading right for the sun.
24:10She's gone, Scott.
24:12What she could have done to space navigation.
24:15A real temperamental little gal, Skipper.
24:18A devil of a gal, if you ask me.
24:20Hey, I've got an idea.
24:23Why don't we take a short cruise around the planet Cambria?
24:26Now, if that isn't a silly idea, it would take us weeks.
24:30Any particular reason, you old bull?
24:32Well, after that collision Eros had with the evening star,
24:36there's an awful lot of work waiting for us when we get back.
24:40I was kind of hoping we'd miss it.
24:49And so ends the story of The Visitor from Outer Space.
24:54Don't miss the next exciting adventure with Scott McCloud, Space Angel.
