00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro announced changes within his government cabinet as part
00:17of the advances in the construction of a new cycle of popular self-government.
00:26In Burkina Faso, government authorities have confirmed at least 200 fatalities in a terrorist
00:30attack perpetrated in the north-central part of the country.
00:36Israeli forces have carried out an intense incursion into the occupied West Bank, resulting
00:40in the death of at least seven Palestinians in the region.
00:52Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:56Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
00:58Venezuela's Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, denounced a new
01:03attack against the country's power system.
01:06Yes, well, it is the denunciation that the president made, with evidence, because he
01:14knows that the president has information generated by the security agencies about the plans of
01:19the right wing.
01:20We knew that they were planning this type of attack not only to the electric service
01:24but to other services that are used massively by the people of Venezuela.
01:29Now we are already, already at this moment, the security agencies deployed.
01:34It was an attack to a transmission tower, the security agencies together with the workers
01:38of the electric service, who are good, tireless, tireless, tireless.
01:43They will not cease in their efforts, and we will not cease in the pursuit of justice
01:46in Venezuela.
01:48And the people of Venezuela can be sure that the response will be forceful against those
01:52who are generating violence, who are generating terrorist acts, and who are attacking public
01:58services, which are of extreme necessity for the people of Venezuela.
02:02The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced changes in his executive cabinet
02:09in order to adjust the strength of the government to better meet the needs of the people.
02:13During a meeting for the balance of the second national popular consultation, the president
02:16highlighted the potential of this electoral process held on Sunday, August 25th.
02:21In addition, he pointed out that there is a participatory democratic conscience in the
02:25people of Venezuela.
02:26He also highlighted that the country has reached a new point of maturity to reach a democratic
02:30state.
02:31In this sense, the head of state presented the changes in his government cabinet in order
02:35to consolidate the new phase of the construction of the popular self-government.
02:43I am going to make a renewal of half of the construction of territorial socialism, of
02:54communal democracy, of direct democracy, of the new system of government that breaks with
03:01the concept of superficial aerial protocolary government.
03:06There will already be an executive cabinet.
03:08I am going to announce the necessary changes in different ministries to couple the strength
03:14of the popular revolutionary and socialist government of Venezuela and give the order
03:20that this stage, this stage that is open with the victory of July 28th, is the stage of
03:27officialdom, enough of lies and deception.
03:31Superficial, enough of superficiality.
03:38The President-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported the decision of President Andres Manuel
03:43López Obrador to pause relations with diplomatic missions of the United States and Canada due
03:48to their interference.
03:49During an important public meeting held on Tuesday night, the President-elect emphasized
03:53that they appreciated relations with their neighbors, but in her words, both embassies
03:57committed a transgression.
03:59The President-elect reminded the ambassadors that decisions about Mexico are a matter for
04:03Mexican men and women.
04:05In the last few hours, the ambassador to the White House, Ken Salazar, has tempered their
04:09stance in a new statement.
04:11However, the President-elect assured that she will not meet with him.
04:15The statement of the ambassador of the United States and Canada is the problem because they
04:29make statements that have to do with the exclusive concerns of the Mexican people, therefore
04:35the response of the President.
04:40It is not that the President said something that has no precedent.
04:44The executive branch responds in defense of our sovereignty.
04:48This is always important and it is also in the Constitution.
04:56The ghost of narco-politics has not left Panama.
04:59A recent operation involving a direct relative of a congressman has brought the topic of
05:03narco-politics back to the national debate.
05:06Our colleague Reca Chandi Ramani tells us about it.
05:11Panamanian prosecutors dismantled an international network dedicated to drug trafficking and
05:16money laundering in the so-called Operation Jericho.
05:19The investigation lasted just over a year and resulted in the seizure of 1,592 packages
05:25of cocaine and almost $400,000, 41 raids, and 28 people charged.
05:32Among those under investigation are Panamanians, Colombians, and Mexicans.
05:39We were able to establish the existence of a criminal group that was engaged in international
05:44drug trafficking by introducing illicit substances through the Jericho area, by land, through
05:50backpackers, substance that was then moved to the area of San Miguelito, then camouflaged
05:56in the double bottom of a vehicle to be taken out to the area of Costa Rica.
06:01According to the prosecutor's office, agents of the National Border Service were guarding
06:06the drugs in transit.
06:08On the other hand, one of those captured is Abraham Rico Pineda, son of the deputy
06:13of the National Assembly, Roel Pineda, member and director of the Democratic Revolutionary
06:18Party.
06:19The operation is also investigating a company linked to the deputy's entourage, which
06:24would have served as a vehicle for the alleged laundering of the illicit money.
06:32They do it from the moment they put money to finance structures, candidacies, that allow
06:38them to effectively have some level of incidence on national and political activities.
06:45That is a problem we are facing.
06:47At the national level, it has been questioned precisely that they have taken over instances
06:54such as the legislative body.
06:56Today, we are facing precisely one of these questions, due to the linking of some deputies
07:03or relatives close to organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering.
07:14According to experts, Panama has gone from a phase in which organized crime recruited
07:19officials in the different entities to sustain its activities, to one in which the same officials
07:24have created their own criminal structures, shielded from power with privileges, tailor-made
07:29laws, pacts with judges and prosecutors, electoral clientelism, among others.
07:38This situation is worrying us, because of this suitable test, this inefficiency in being
07:45able to find out who are the real bosses behind these criminal organizations, to identify
07:51the names that have been infiltrated from the most modest bases of the people, up to
07:56a sub-director, director of a police or security institution, as well as ministers, and not
08:02only at the public level, but also at a commercial level, as these structures are lent.
08:12Although private electoral financing has been kept since the last elections, this is not
08:17complied with because the electoral tribunal itself has said that it has no way to audit
08:22and confirm the veracity of the reports submitted by the candidates.
08:26In addition to in-kind donations, which many campaigns omit to register, according to experts,
08:32as long as the key to private financing is not closed, narco-politics will continue to
08:37settle in the canal country.
08:45Let's now take a short break, but remember you can join us on Tiktok at TELESUR ENGLISH,
08:48where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
08:53We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:18Welcome back.
09:20United States Special Counsel Jack Smith released a newly revised indictment against
09:23former President Donald Trump, which brings the court proceeding in line with the recent
09:27Supreme Court ruling.
09:28The substitute indictment was filed Tuesday in the case of electoral interference in the
09:332020 elections.
09:34The indictment lowers the allegations against the far-right businessman and adjusts them
09:38to the ruling issued by the highest court in the United States on July.
09:41It was reported that the new allegations of the special counsel are linked to the former
09:45president's efforts to have the Justice Department support his accusations of electoral
09:50fraud in the 2020 elections.
09:57In Burkina Faso, government authorities have confirmed at least 200 fatalities in a terrorist
10:01attack perpetrated in the north-central part of the country.
10:03The brutal attack in the city of Basalok is attributed to the terrorist organization Yamad
10:08Nusrat-ul-Islam, similar to Al-Qaeda operating in West Africa.
10:12Yamad Nusrat-ul-Islam grew stronger while Western powers, such as France, claim to be
10:17cleansing the Sahel of extremism.
10:19The spokesman of the Qaeda hospital, René Zabalogo, confirmed that in addition to the
10:24dead, there are 140 wounded.
10:26Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres has strongly condemned this attack,
10:30which according to the Minister of Security Mahama Roussana, will be met with an exemplary
10:35response.
10:37Meanwhile, Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, is embarking on a visit to West
10:44Africa as the country faces the dramatic rise in migrant arrivals, particularly to the Canary
10:48Islands.
10:49The three-day tour will include meetings with leaders from Mauritania, Gambia and Senegal,
10:53aimed at addressing the ongoing migration crisis.
10:56So far this year, the Canary Islands have experienced a staggering 126% increase in
11:01arrivals, with over 22,000 migrants reaching the islands by mid-August.
11:05Local officials warn of an impending crisis due to insufficient resources, especially
11:10for unaccompanied minors, with calls for increased EU support growing louder.
11:15The situation remains critical as autumn approaches and migration patterns shift.
11:25A World Health Organization emergency commission of African scientists holds the international
11:30community responsible for the aggressive outbreaks of M-pox affecting the continent.
11:35Commission leader Dr. Dimi Ogoina said that decades of neglect and inability of the international
11:40community have led to the spread of new, more transmissible versions of the virus that countries
11:44with few resources cannot stop.
11:47Ogoina states that for years, M-pox spread only slightly, affecting homosexuals or bisexual
11:52men.
11:53Now, with the inability of other countries to contain the virus in populations with low
11:57immunity, children and women suffer from it and even become potential fatalities.

12:52Welcome back.
13:00The Israeli regime escalates its genocidal actions in the occupied West Bank killing
13:0411 Palestinians in less than 12 hours.
13:06Jenin's governor said it was the largest operation to take place in the area since
13:102002.
13:11The regional leader reported that Israel is threatening to occupy one of its hospitals
13:15where there are 200 workers and more than 150 patients.
13:18The situation is extremely tense as resistance factions respond to the occupation's attacks.
13:23Meanwhile, Qatar confirmed that ceasefire negotiators are already in Doha, without mentioning
13:27Hamas.
13:28In this context, and in view of the critical situation in the West Bank, Palestinian President
13:32Mahmoud Abbas cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia.
13:41And just when 326 days of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip have passed, the Palestinian
13:46Ministry of Health announced that in the last 24 hours, the Israeli regime committed
13:50three assassinations against civilians in Gaza, and as a result, dozens of Palestinians
13:54were martyred and more than a hundred were wounded.
13:57Also, the Zionist regime issued a new evacuation order to increase its attacks between the
14:01southern part of Hanjounis and the central area of Gaza, including their al-Bala.
14:05Later, another attack on the Nou Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank left at least
14:10five dead.
14:11Also, in this context, the United Nations was forced to suspend its aid operations after
14:16the new evacuation order was issued in the area where they had located their operations
14:20center after relocating from Rafah.
14:29The United Nations warned that the anti-polio campaign team in the Gaza Strip no longer
14:34has safe bases to treat the population.
14:37The actions of the Israeli defense forces worsen existing security threats and severely
14:41affect the pace at which the United Nations can safely deliver vaccines.
14:45In this context, the agency stated that polio vaccination for more than 600,000 children
14:49in Gaza is about to begin soon, with a second round planned for four weeks from now.
14:54It should be noted that different organizations, together with other partners, are preparing
14:58a two-round vaccination campaign aimed at inoculating children under 10 years of age.
15:07China's foreign ministry published a report revealing that the National Endowment for
15:12Democracy non-profit foundation promotes subversive and destabilizing activities in several countries
15:18around the world.
15:19The report shows that the foundation, established in 1983 by then U.S. President Ronald Reagan,
15:24uses so-called human rights movements to demand changes in government, in finances, media
15:29and digital platforms of NGOs to train and instigate what they call color revolutions.
15:34In Cuba alone, the NED has funded 54 anti-human organizations since 2017.
15:39In Mexico, they support Mexicans against corruption and the Institute for Competitiveness, through
15:45which they have tried to stop important social gains for the Mexican people, such as the
15:49electric power reform.
15:56The United Nations resumed on Tuesday the discussions on the reform of the Security
16:00Council, considered the main body in charge of world peace.
16:03The plenary meeting on the subject will broaden discussions on equitable representation and
16:07increase the membership of the 15-member body, with only five permanent seats.
16:11It will also review the immediate continuation of the intergovernmental negotiations on council
16:15reform ahead of the 79th session, which will open in September.
16:19According to experts, the reconfiguration of the council should include the African
16:23continent and other regions that do not have a permanent seat.
16:33San Lucia plans to be in construction this year of an underwater sculpture park that
16:46will be similar to the one in Grenada.
16:49This project seeks to highlight the main elements of the island's culture and history.
16:53The government has consulted the population on the design of the effigies and has high
16:57expectations for the park's impact on tourism growth.
17:00The aim is to transform San Lucia into the leading destination in the Caribbean for adventure-seeking
17:04tourists.
17:05Similar parks will also be built on the islands of Cariacao and Petit Martinique, in collaboration
17:11with British artist Jason Dekers-Taylor, the creator of several pieces located in Molinère.
17:23Now we are going to Chile, in a trip where we will know the black pottery of King Chamale,
17:28an artisan tradition whose pieces stand out for their characteristic black color and white
17:33flowers.
17:38King Chamale is a small Chilean town whose pottery practice dates back to the Peruense
17:42and Pampuche communities, as well as Santa Cruz de Cuca, where the production of black
17:46pottery survives to this day, a craft that is dedicated to the creation of functional
17:50and decorative objects characterized by their dark color and fundamental basis in the economy
17:55of the Chilean region.
18:04Each one of the pieces requires the work and attention of a series of artisans.
18:08The steps go from the collection of the material, the treatment of the stain and later the creation
18:12of the pieces.
18:13With this technique, vessels, pots and fountains are created, or some more decorative ones
18:18in the shape of animals or la guitarrera, representation of a peasant woman carrying
18:23a guitar and that became an icon of the Chilean handicraft.
18:26Once the object is shaped, the base reliefs and the decorative lines are made.
18:31They are fired directly in the embers and left to cool covered with saltos or leaves,
18:35which gives them their characteristic pigmentation.
18:38Once this process is finished, they are cleaned and the bas-reliefs are filled with white color,
18:43highlighting the drawings and the details, generally flowers.
18:47This knowledge has been passed from mother to daughter from generations, forming matriarchal
18:52lines which have become an artistic source of social and economic autonomy.
18:56Nowadays, there are also men involved in the pottery tradition, although it is still mostly
19:01feminine.
19:02Each of the families has developed its own style, but together they manage to obtain
19:06recognition as a part of the intangible cultural heritage of Chile and even a denomination
19:12of origin, which allows them to continue living from their art and keeping this artisan practice alive.
19:18This artistic expression was inscribed as Chilean Heritage in 2022 and is part of the
19:23list of those requiring urgent safeguarding measures.
19:30And this we have come to the end of this news brief.
