00:03:24Oh and look Ronnie, right through there, see that mountain peak? Yeah, it looks like a volcano.
00:03:38Do you know down at the bottom they have a ranch? You're kidding me, no.
00:03:43Hey, when can we ride the mules down? Well, we're gonna have to check into the hotel first.
00:03:47Uh, hey look, can we go down on the point first?
00:03:54Okay, thanks mom, I'll race you. Just a minute Ronnie, let's put your jacket on.
00:04:00Okay, I don't want you catching a cold.
00:04:48So
00:05:07okay Ronnie, let's go. Where are we going? We have to check our room reservation.
00:05:12Uh, can't I stay here? Can't you do it without me?
00:05:16Well, I guess it'll be all right, but promise me you'll stay here and you won't go away.

00:08:02So long as you do exactly as I say.
00:08:05Get in your car and drive immediately to Phoenix.
00:08:08You'll be contacted later.
00:08:27Please! You've got to help me!
00:08:30My son has been kidnapped!
00:08:32Are you sure he hasn't just run off someplace and gotten lost?
00:08:35The note. Read the note.
00:08:37There's nothing on it. It's blank.
00:08:42But there was a message on it. You've got to believe me!
00:08:45I believe you, ma'am. Let's just sit down and you can tell me all the details.
00:08:47My son has been stolen!
00:08:49Calm down. Calm down. We'll sit down for a moment.
00:08:50No!
00:08:51Please!
00:08:54Help me! Please! You've got to help me! Please!
00:09:02Phoenix! I've got to get to Phoenix!

00:09:51Mrs. Patrick.
00:09:57Mrs. Patrick.
00:09:59I believe it will be worth a considerable amount of money for you to get your son back.
00:10:03Alive and unharmed.
00:10:06If you do as I say, he will be safe.
00:10:10As you can see, I have all this carefully planned.
00:10:14And I know every move you make.
00:10:17You must drive to the Executive House Hotel.
00:10:21Now do as I say, or your son will die.
00:10:29Phoenix!
00:10:59Phoenix!
00:11:29Phoenix!
00:11:53I'd like a room, please.
00:11:55Yes, for how many?
00:11:56Only one person.
00:11:57Do you have reservations?
00:11:58Of course I don't.
00:11:59That's right. I think I can help you.
00:12:08Fill out the card, please.
00:12:26Mrs. Patrick?
00:12:27Yes? What is it?
00:12:29You did have a reservation. You called in two days ago, don't you remember?
00:12:40353. Right this way, ma'am. Right this way, ma'am.
00:13:27Shhh!
00:13:57Hello?
00:14:23Mrs. Patrick, I'm calling again to give you further instructions.
00:14:26If you wish to call the police, it makes no difference to me.
00:14:29There's nothing they or anyone else can do.
00:14:31No one will ever catch me.
00:14:33It is all a matter of paying me what I ask for in return for your son's life.
00:14:37If I don't get what I want, I'll kill him.
00:14:40I could just as well kill you or anyone else if necessary.
00:14:44When I feel it's the right time, I'll contact you later.
00:14:57Operator, get me the police.
00:15:00As you must well know, Mrs. Patrick, this all sounds pretty crazy.
00:15:04I don't care whether you believe me or not.
00:15:06Everything I've told you was the truth.
00:15:08Now I want you to quit treating me as if I'm out of my mind and get my son back.
00:15:12Do you understand me?

00:18:47Oh, Mrs. Patrick, you please start at the beginning and don't leave anything out, because
00:18:49if I'm to help you, I have to know everything you know.
00:18:52Now, just a minute, Mr. Medford.
00:18:54JoAnn is extremely exhausted.
00:18:56I don't see why she has to repeat all of this again.
00:19:00Who are you?
00:19:01My name is Malcolm Stewart.
00:19:04What are you doing here?
00:19:06I'm Mrs. Patrick's investment counselor.
00:19:07Well, go invest in something.
00:19:09It's all right, Malcolm.
00:19:10I don't mind.
00:19:12All right, what happened, Mrs. Pettyer?
00:19:17Well, it all happened at the Grand Canyon.
00:19:20I left my son...
00:19:22I left Ronnie...
00:19:23standing on the ledge while I went out and checked for a room.
00:19:32Hampton, I want you to bug this room, the telephone, the whole bit.
00:19:36Where's the paper that note was written on?
00:19:42Phillips, get this to the lab, have them check it out fast.
00:19:44Right.
00:19:45Now, I'm going to clear everybody out of here.
00:19:47You're going to be all by yourself.
00:19:48But you can't...
00:19:49I can't what?
00:19:50By the minute he contacts you, we're going to be ready for him.
00:19:53You're going to be here all by yourself.
00:19:54It's going to be rough, but that's the only way.
00:19:57All right, let's move.
00:19:59You, too.
00:20:00Now, don't come back without my permission.
00:20:02Now, get out of here!
00:20:06Mrs. Pettyer...
00:20:09A lot of people are going to try and help you get your son back.
00:20:11Now, if there's a chance, we'll do it, I promise you.
00:20:39Well, we've got to start someplace.
00:20:42Hampton, check all the electronics firms on the coast.
00:20:45See if anybody with this electronic ability has ever worked for them before.
00:20:49If we don't do that, the only thing we've got to work with is this piece of paper, and that ain't much.
00:20:56Hello, Helen?
00:20:57Yeah, get me the L.A. office.
00:21:09L.A. Office
00:21:39L.A. Office
00:21:58Did you know down at the bottom they have a ranch?
00:22:00You're kidding me.
00:22:01No.
00:22:02Hey, when can we ride the mules down?
00:22:04We'll have to check into the hotel first.
00:22:07Hey, look, can't we go down on the point first?
00:22:10Oh, thanks, Mom. I'll race you.
00:22:12Ronnie!
00:22:14Just a minute, Ronnie.
00:22:16Put your jacket on.
00:22:17Are you sure he hasn't just run off someplace and gotten lost?
00:22:20Mommy?
00:22:22Mommy?
00:22:24Mommy, can you hear me, Mommy?
00:22:27Please, don't let the man kill me.
00:22:30Ronnie! Ronnie!
00:22:32Oh, Ronnie!
00:22:34Ronnie!
00:22:37Ronnie!
00:22:40Oh, Ronnie!
00:22:44I told you not to leave her alone.
00:22:47And I told you to stay out of here, and I meant it.
00:22:50I'm going to make sure that someone hears about the way you're handling this.
00:22:53If I have to contact your superiors personally...
00:22:56Why don't you call J. Edgar Hoover? I'm sure he'd be happy to hear about the whole thing.
00:23:04I'm sorry your son is a victim of this maniac.
00:23:07I have a feeling the boy's alive and safe.
00:23:10Now, he needs Ronnie to pull this thing off.
00:23:12But it's going to get worse.
00:23:14He's going to keep after you until you pay him exactly what he wants.
00:23:17I'll pay him anything now if you'll only let me know.
00:23:19It isn't the money now.
00:23:21He's playing a game to show how clever he is, and it's going to get worse.
00:23:24Well, I just can't take any more of it. I just can't take it.
00:23:27You're going to have to take it, and you're going to have to keep on taking it.
00:23:30There's no other way.
00:23:33Well, can't you do something?
00:23:35We're doing everything we can, but at the moment...
00:23:38Everything's just not enough.
00:23:52We checked the electronics firms on the coast. We came up with nothing.
00:23:56What about that paper? Any word from the lab yet?
00:23:58Yeah, they think that the paper was treated in the lab.
00:24:01They think that the paper was treated in some way so that when the light hits it, the writing disappears.
00:24:05Something like film, only different.
00:24:07What do you mean, different?
00:24:09I don't know. They don't know.
00:24:11They're working on it.
00:24:13Do you know something? We're going about this all wrong.
00:24:16We're playing his game. Let's make him play ours for a change.
00:24:19I don't follow you.
00:24:21Get in. I'll explain it to you.
00:24:31Up till now, the kidnapper's known every move that Mrs. Patrick's made.
00:24:34If we sneak her into another room, he's got to come looking for her.
00:24:37When he does, we'll be waiting.
00:24:39You miss her, we'll go after her.
00:24:41I'll go after her.
00:24:43I'll go after her.
00:24:45I'll go after her.
00:24:47I'll go after her.
00:24:49I'll go after her.
00:24:51I'll go after her.
00:24:53I'll go after her.
00:24:55I'll go after her.
00:24:57I'll go after her.
00:25:00You miss, I want you to stay here.
00:25:05Where's Joanne?
00:25:07Why isn't she here?
00:25:09We've moved her to another location for a little while.
00:25:11Where have you taken her?
00:25:13I demand to know where she is.
00:25:15I'm sorry, I can't tell you. It's important that nobody knows.
00:25:17This is ridiculous.
00:25:19If you won't tell me where she is, I'll find out for myself.
00:25:23Mr. Stewart, how would you like to spend a couple of days in a drug tank?
00:25:26What do you mean?
00:25:28Well, if you start snooping around and messing us up,
00:25:30I'm going to throw you in the drug tank.
00:25:32You can't do that. I don't even drink.
00:25:34Yeah, and I've heard that non-drinkers, it takes them longer to sober up.
00:25:37You can't threaten me.
00:25:39Phillips, take him down and book him,
00:25:41and don't let him out until I tell you to.
00:25:43All right.
00:25:49Miss Barnett, I want you to stay here until another contact is made.
00:25:51Is everything all set up?
00:25:53Yeah, it's all set. We got the whole area covered.
00:25:55Any questions before we leave?
00:25:57I'm not seeing anything happen.
00:25:59Well, thanks very much. Let's go.
00:26:05As soon as you know if Mr. Patrick's not in the room, he's going to move fast.
00:26:07Well, I wish we had a clue as to who we're looking for.
00:26:09Well, we haven't, so we check everybody and I mean everybody.
00:26:28Hello?
00:26:30No, this is not Mrs. Patrick. This is the maid.
00:26:32Mrs. Patrick checked out this morning.
00:26:34She's no longer here.
00:26:36I'm...
00:26:38I'm sorry.
00:26:40I'm sorry.
00:26:42I'm sorry.
00:26:44I'm sorry.
00:26:46I'm sorry.
00:26:48I'm sorry.
00:26:50I'm sorry.
00:26:52I'm sorry.
00:26:54I'm sorry.
00:26:56I'm sorry.
00:27:06Okay, Miss Miner, thanks very much.
00:27:08You call the room and alert everybody.
00:27:10I'm on my way.
00:27:26I'm on my way.
00:27:29See you.

00:29:07How observant are you, Phillips?
00:29:09Why?
00:29:10How many passes has that white Volkswagen truck made tonight?
00:29:14Three.
00:29:16You young guys frighten me. Let's take a look.
00:29:35If you don't walk those stairs, I'll take the other stairway.
00:29:50What's the matter with you guys? I didn't do nothing.
00:29:52We'll see about that after we get the handcuffs.
00:29:58Spread your legs more. Come on, spread them.
00:30:03There's nothing in here but burglar tools.
00:30:05Yeah.
00:30:06No electronics gear?
00:30:08No.
00:30:09What are you doing with this?
00:30:10I got nothing to say.
00:30:12We'll see about that. Call for a patrol car. We'll let them book him.
00:30:16All right.
00:30:46I'll get it.
00:30:53Please fire it off surveillance.
00:30:57Yes, Inspector.
00:30:58Right, we booked the guy a couple of hours ago for burglary.
00:31:02No, the hotel is still under surveillance.
00:31:05Now, Phillips knocked off a couple of hours ago to get some shut-eye.
00:31:10Right.
00:31:11Hampton, Medford on line three.
00:31:15Hello.
00:31:19I was just going home. I'll be there in about ten minutes.
00:32:14Mrs. Patrick.
00:32:19Mrs. Patrick.
00:32:25What's going on here?
00:32:27What do you mean, what's going on?
00:32:28Well, I got a call from Medford. He said you were in trouble.
00:32:31Well, there must be some mistake.
00:32:33A mistake?
00:32:34Well, unless there's something going on that I'm not aware of.
00:32:37I better get back to the office and check this out.
00:32:42Are you sure you're all right?
00:32:44Yes, I'm quite sure.
00:32:45Now, look, we didn't mean to get you upset.
00:32:49I'll give you a call as soon as I can figure out what's going on.
00:33:03Who is it?
00:33:25It's Malcolm.
00:33:28Malcolm, what are you doing here?
00:33:30They wouldn't tell me where you were.
00:33:32So I waited around and followed a policeman over here.
00:33:38Malcolm, you're getting to be a bother.
00:33:40I had you come here to help me arrange for the money when I need it.
00:33:44Now get back to your room.
00:33:46And for heaven's sake, stay out of everybody's way.
00:33:50All right, Joanne.
00:33:53But I want you to know one thing.
00:33:57I really don't like the way this is being handled.
00:34:27Hello?
00:34:47Mrs. Patrick, this is Melvin.
00:34:48Looks like we got something going here.
00:34:50Get your cab and come to this address.
00:34:52You got something to write it down with?
00:34:54Just a minute.
00:35:09All right, I'm ready.
00:35:11The address is 56 and Washington.
00:35:13In Legend City is an amusement park.
00:35:15I think we found your boy.
00:35:17Oh, thank heavens.
00:35:19I'll be right there.
00:35:22What happened, Hector?
00:35:23I picked up that telephone.
00:35:24I could swear it was your voice.
00:35:26You said that, well, somebody said to go over to Mrs. Patrick's room.
00:35:29I did.
00:35:30That was it.
00:35:31He's tricked us again.
00:35:32Now he knows where she is.
00:35:34Let's get over there right away.
00:35:36All right, let's go.
00:35:51Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please?
00:36:19May I have your attention please?
00:36:20The park is closing in 15 minutes.
00:36:2415 minutes until closing time.
00:36:31Mrs. Patrick?
00:36:34Mrs. Joanne Patrick?
00:36:37Aging Mrs. Joanne Patrick?
00:36:40You're wanted at the Lost Dutchman Mine.
00:36:45I should have stayed here.
00:36:47We've been had.
00:36:48This one's been impossible from the start.
00:36:50It's getting worse.
00:36:51Well, what now?
00:36:52Don't do what the kidnapper's doing.
00:36:53Keep working.
00:36:54We haven't got a chance.
00:36:55Hell, we don't.
00:36:56Let's get back to the office.
00:37:04Medford, who's this?
00:37:05Mr. Medford, you don't know how glad I am to catch up with you.
00:37:08Somehow he found out where I was.
00:37:09He called me and he told me to meet him to work things out.
00:37:12I stopped several times trying to catch you.
00:37:14I thought you should know.
00:37:15These directions are kind of complicated.
00:37:17Do you have something to write with?
00:37:20Hold it.
00:37:26Go ahead.
00:37:27I'm ready.
00:37:30Why'd you leave here?
00:37:32I want to get my son back.
00:37:34I've got to hurry.
00:37:35These are the directions.
00:37:36Drive 10 miles north of the city on Route 21.
00:37:39Take the left fork of the road there and drive 2 miles to a dirt road.
00:37:42Drive 1.5 miles to the right on the dirt road until you get to a large rock formation.
00:37:46Hurry!
00:37:47I'm only about 10 minutes ahead of you.
00:37:48Please hurry!
00:37:53Anthony, you stay here.
00:37:54I'm going to try and catch up with Mrs. Packard.
00:38:23I'm going to try and catch up with Mrs. Packard.
00:38:53You know, Inspector, there's something mighty funny going on here.
00:39:18I'm pretty familiar with this area.
00:39:20And according to those directions, there just ain't no such place.
00:39:49Oh, at my age, I should know better than to believe what women say.
00:39:54Ray, spin this thing around.
00:39:56We'll go back and start from the top.
00:40:13Mr. Medford?
00:40:25Mrs. Packard, we're down here.
00:40:26We've got Ronnie.
00:40:27Now pick up the can on the back of me and come on down.
00:40:44Mr. Medford?
00:40:47Ronnie?
00:41:06Ronnie?
00:41:14Ronnie?
00:41:20Are you in here, Ronnie?
00:41:31Where are you, Ronnie?
00:42:0010-4, Calway 781.
00:42:05Smith, get a hold of Hampton over at the executive house.
00:42:08See if Ms. Patrick's car is still there.
00:42:10If it is, check with the cab companies.
00:42:12See if they've picked up a fare they're answering her description.
00:42:15Get at it on the double, will you?
00:42:21Mommy?
00:42:23Mommy?
00:42:26Mommy, can you hear me, Mommy?
00:42:35Ronnie!
00:42:43Ronnie!
00:42:47Ronnie!
00:43:02Mrs. Patrick, I'm sure by now you've come to the conclusion that it's useless to try and stop me.
00:43:10The police have arrived at this conclusion.
00:43:13Now it's time to get down to business.
00:43:17I want $1 million in exchange for your son's life.
00:43:23$1 million.
00:43:27Now there's a building directly to your right.
00:43:29There's a shelf inside with an envelope on it.
00:43:33Go and get it.
00:43:45I figured you'd be close.
00:43:47I'm going to have to break the lock.
00:43:48I'll get the tire.
00:44:05Mrs. Patrick!
00:44:09I don't hear a thing.
00:44:11This is going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
00:44:15I'm just kidding.
00:44:19Mrs. Patrick!
00:44:23Mrs. Patrick, if you fail to follow the instructions in the note, your son will die a very painful death.
00:44:30Now I'm going to demonstrate my ability to inflict pain.
00:44:56Please get over there.
00:44:57I have to go.
00:45:08Stop!
00:45:10Stop!
00:45:13I'll pay!
00:45:14I'll pay!
00:45:16I'll pay!
00:45:18I'll pay!
00:45:20Stop!
00:45:22Stop!
00:45:25I'll pay!
00:45:26I'll pay!
00:45:28I'll pay!
00:45:30I'll pay!
00:45:33I'll pay!
00:45:37I'll pay!
00:45:39I'll pay!
00:45:42I'll pay!
00:45:44It's all right, Mrs. Patrick.
00:45:46I'll pay!
00:45:47You're going to be all right.
00:45:49I'll pay!
00:45:50$1 million?
00:45:53Well, we won't do it.
00:45:55It's ridiculous.
00:45:56You can't expect us to comply to those kind of demands.
00:45:59Mrs. Patrick...
00:46:00Malcolm, I'm going to give him the money.
00:46:02I want my son.
00:46:04You get on that next plane and you get that money back to me.
00:46:06Do you understand?
00:46:07But all that money, $1 million...
00:46:09Oh, shut up, Malcolm!
00:46:10And for once in your life, do as you're told!
00:46:15Mr. Medford, I think maybe you'd better send somebody along to see that it gets done properly.
00:46:19Philips, you go with him.
00:46:29Do you have the note?
00:46:31Yeah, I had it typed up just in time.
00:46:34As you know, the writing fades as soon as the light hits the paper.
00:46:39Here it is.
00:46:42Prepare the money in small, unmarked bills.
00:46:45Put it in a small trunk or suitcase and place it between two large rocks exactly 8.3 miles from the highway of Desert Rim Road.
00:46:52The money must be delivered between 1 and 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
00:46:56At 9 o'clock Thursday morning, you can drive to the edge of the dry lake bed, 15 miles south of the delivery area.
00:47:03Your boy will be there.
00:47:04He'll have a bomb attached to him that I can detonate at any time I wish.
00:47:09If I'm followed, or if anyone tries to trick me, I'll explode the bomb.
00:47:14So I've been given ample time to be safely on my way.
00:47:17Then you can be reunited with your son.
00:47:20If there are any problems, he'll be killed.
00:47:24I've only got two days to get the money to him.
00:47:29Do you think he'll keep his part of the bargain? Do you think he'll let Ronnie go?
00:47:33Mrs. Patrick, you can't figure it out like this.
00:47:35I don't think he's going to kill your boy unless he figures we're double-crossing.
00:47:38Do you think he'll try and contact me again?
00:47:40Not unless something unforeseen happens, but we'll check all phone calls to play it safe.
00:47:44What do we do now, Medford? Just wait?
00:47:46Wait, sweat, and keep working.
00:47:48Looks like he's got us beat.
00:47:50He's out in front by a country mile right now.
00:47:52Let's go back to the lab and check that last ransom note.
00:47:55Oh, yeah, Mrs. Patrick, no more phone calls.
00:48:05You know, this lab report's the only thing we've got to work on.
00:48:08I know in the back of my mind this is going to trap him, but I can't make a phone call to the police.
00:48:12I'm glad you're in charge of this case and not me.
00:48:15What about Phillips? How did he make it on the list?
00:48:17I got a phone call from him from Los Angeles this morning.
00:48:21He said it's no easy task getting that much money together in cash.
00:48:25I guess Mrs. Patrick's bank's about to have a tizzy.
00:48:28Are they going to make it?
00:48:29Yeah, they're supposed to fly in with it today.
00:48:32Boy, I hope this doesn't make out.
00:48:34If anybody knew there was that much cash floating around free,
00:48:37everybody in the country would try to get their hands on it.
00:48:40Well, they'd make sure that nobody finds out about it.
00:48:43Well, I'm not going to tell anybody.
00:48:45I have the lab technician coming with me. Tell him I want to talk to him.
00:48:48Yeah.
00:48:49Oh, and another thing. Call the L.A. office.
00:48:51Give me a rundown on Stewart. Photos, who he knows, the whole bit.
00:49:00Let's keep moving.
00:49:02I have to get Stewart back to the hotel and pick up Edward.
00:49:05Okay.
00:49:06Come on, on the double.
00:49:16Put it there.
00:49:19You handle that thing like a muscle beach dropout.
00:49:22Well, I didn't realize a million dollars weighed that much.
00:49:24Get the car ready. I've got to make a phone call.
00:50:02All right.
00:50:33This is Mattford.
00:50:35I've done everything as instructed.
00:50:37So far, everything seems okay.
00:50:40All right, roll it out, Edward.
00:51:02All right.
00:51:32Oh, my God.
00:52:02What was that?
00:52:32Oh, my God!
00:53:02Oh, my God!
00:53:32Oh, my God!
00:53:50All right, Captain, get over there.
00:54:03All right, take care of her, Phillips.
00:54:05Right.
00:54:09Everything's going to be fine. Just take it easy.
00:54:11Stop.
00:54:13Take care of her. Just take it easy.
00:54:17Ronnie's out there.
00:54:32Come on.
00:55:02Well, did you like my little trick, Mrs. Patrick?
00:55:05It's almost as good as the one you played on me.
00:55:08Did you think for one second that I could be fooled by a suitcase full of paper?
00:55:14What are you talking about? The money was there.
00:55:16Now, I will not argue with you.
00:55:19Now, you'd better do as instructed, or else I'm going to kill that boy and do business with someone else.
00:55:23I gave you the money.
00:55:26You said you delivered it.
00:55:28Where is it? Why doesn't he have it?
00:55:30What's he trying to do to us?
00:55:32All of you listen carefully.
00:55:34In a few minutes, you'll see the boy walking across the flats.
00:55:38He'll have a bomb attached to him.
00:55:40And if I don't have the money in exactly four hours, then the bomb will explode.
00:55:47Now, he has specific instructions not to approach you too closely.
00:55:52I dare say, if you want to keep healthy, you stay a little distance away from him.
00:55:58I can detonate the bomb any time that I wish.
00:56:02If you doubt it, just put me to the test.
00:56:06This time, I want the money delivered by private airplane.
00:56:10Fly directly west of the city for 30 minutes.
00:56:14And drop the money by parachute.
00:56:18Now, this time, make no mistake.
00:56:21Carry out my instructions to the fullest, or Mrs. Patrick, your son, will die.
00:56:27Of this, I am sure.
00:56:29And Mr. Medford, if I were you, I'd go back to Los Angeles while there's still time.
00:56:38Well, if he doesn't have the money, then where is it?
00:56:40I don't know, but if we're going to save the kid's life, we'd better find out, but fast.
00:56:44Philip, you stay here with Mrs. Patrick and wait for the boy.
00:56:47Fine.
00:56:57
00:57:27
00:57:57
00:58:27
00:58:30
00:58:33
00:58:36
00:58:39
00:58:42
00:58:45
00:58:48Somebody switch the suitcases on us.
00:58:52Rocks and newspaper.
00:58:54What do I do now? Take it back to the car?
00:58:56We'll have the lab boys come out and look the whole thing over.
00:58:58The kid will be dead by then.
00:59:00No money, we don't know where it is. If you ask me, the whole situation is hopeless.
00:59:04So is the battle of the bulls. Let's get out of here.
00:59:24
00:59:27
00:59:30
00:59:33
00:59:36
00:59:39
00:59:42
00:59:45
00:59:48
00:59:51
00:59:54
00:59:57
01:00:00
01:00:03
01:00:06
01:00:09
01:00:12
01:00:15
01:00:18
01:00:21
01:00:24
01:00:27
01:00:30How the devil are we going to track down that money?
01:00:33Let me see now.
01:00:36Phillips, Ray the patrolman, Mrs. Patrick, you and myself.
01:00:39We're the only ones that know about the money.
01:00:41What about Stuart?
01:00:43You go to head of the class. Let's check him out.
01:00:45
01:00:48
01:00:51
01:00:54
01:00:57
01:01:00
01:01:03
01:01:06
01:01:09
01:01:12
01:01:15
01:01:18What could possibly have happened to that money?
01:01:21I'm not sure.
01:01:23I just hope that Memphis can find out.
01:01:26There just isn't enough time.
01:01:28Well, let's just pray that there is.
01:01:31Let's just pray that there is.
01:01:34
01:01:37
01:01:40
01:01:43
01:01:46
01:01:49Where's the money, Stuart?
01:01:52I switched the suitcases.
01:01:54I just couldn't see throwing away all that money.
01:01:57Do you realize that's a million dollars you're playing with?
01:01:59Yeah, a million dollars. What about the kids?
01:02:01You don't give a damn about the kids, do you?
01:02:03That fellow isn't gonna harm Ronnie.
01:02:05Threats, that's all. Just threats.
01:02:07Besides, where's the money?
01:02:10I have it in a safe place.
01:02:12What'd you do with it?
01:02:13That's none of your business.
01:02:15You want a bet, Stuart?
01:02:17Now, I'll give you just ten seconds to tell me what you did with that money.
01:02:21All right. All right, I'll tell you.
01:02:23Did you open that suitcase?
01:02:24No, I...
01:02:25Did you touch any of the money?
01:02:27No, I didn't touch it.
01:02:29I put it in the trunk of the car. I figured it'd be safe there.
01:02:31You're a lucky guy, but you're in disadvantage from here on in.
01:02:33Don't move one inch.
01:02:35You hear me good?
01:03:01There's your pilot over there.
01:03:26Hi, I'm Al Harper.
01:03:27How are you, Harper?
01:03:28Can you tie a parachute onto a suitcase?
01:03:30Well, I can, but it sounds kind of strange to me.
01:03:32Yeah, I know it's strange. Where's the parachute?
01:03:34Well, it's in the plane.
01:03:35Well, get it. Come on, hurry it up. Hurry it up.
01:03:51Hampton, get on the horn and tell them we're on our way.
01:04:00This is Hampton at 374 to dispatcher. Over.
01:04:04Car 374, go ahead.
01:04:06Yeah, Medford has just taken off.
01:04:08I'm going to be heading back to the Dry Lake area.
01:04:10We advise all units in the Lawrence County area to stay off of Bonner's Flats.
01:04:16We don't want anything to happen now. 10-4.
01:04:43Where is he? Why can't I see him?
01:04:45I'm sure you're going to be able to see him before too long.
01:04:48He'll be here.
01:04:50Kidnapper wants to make sure you see him right up to the last second.
01:05:01Look, I think I see him.
01:05:06Patrick!
01:05:29Let me go! Let me go!
01:05:31You're trying to get yourself killed? He told you to stay away from the boy!
01:05:43Mommy. Mommy.
01:05:47Mommy.
01:06:12I just can't stand here any longer.
01:06:34You're going to have to.
01:06:35If you do anything else, you're going to endanger both your lives.
01:06:38It's rough, but you're going to have to do it.
01:07:01Stewart had the money.
01:07:04Medford's making the drop now.
01:07:06If anything else goes wrong...

01:09:28Honey!
01:09:30Ronnie!
01:09:32Get the bomb off the kid.
01:09:34Then get it out of here.
01:09:36All right.
01:09:38Please, hurry!
01:09:40Hurry!
01:09:42Hurry!
01:09:44Oh, Ronnie!
01:09:46Oh, Ronnie!
01:09:48I'll have to get that car over there.
01:09:54Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. 01:10:24Let's get Mrs. Patrick and Ronnie back to the hotel. Let's have a little conversation with Stuart.
01:10:51Yeah, give me an ambulance, will ya? Room 276. Make it snappy.
01:11:07I thought I could get away with double-crossing Ted. It was so much money. I wanted it all. I wanted... I wanted Joanne. It was so much money.
01:11:35It was so much money.
01:11:49Well?
01:11:54Get Phillips on the phone.
01:12:07Helen, this is Hampton. Get me Phillips, will ya? Phillips? Stuart's dead. You better get the lab boys over here right away. Also, the coroner's office. Write up your report.
01:12:23Speaking of reports, we received that check on Stuart that you asked the L.A. office to run.
01:12:27Anything interesting?
01:12:29Yeah, I think so. Stuart had a close friend named Ted Gardner.
01:12:34Any photos?
01:12:36The boys outdid themselves on this report. We got about 15 of them. And luckily, we got one of this guy Gardner.
01:12:44What else?
01:12:46Graduated from Kansas University in electrical engineering. His specialty was electrical communications. Apparently died about a year ago.
01:12:54Well, he's dead. There's not much value to us.
01:12:57Gonna grab on to this. Cause of death, air crash victim. Private aircraft reported down in Gulf of Mexico one hour after leaving Guanos, Mexico. No known survivors. The FAA records indicate aircraft owned by Patrick Publications, Incorporated.
01:13:15Flight plan listed commercial pilot and two passengers, Patrick and Gardner. The destination, Brownsville, Texas. Crash occurred about 14 months ago.
01:13:25Anything else?
01:13:27Oh, nothing significant. He apparently was promoting some electrical gadget. He was looking for some backers.
01:13:34Uh, also a note about some heavy gambling debts.
01:13:39Okay, why don't you put that in an APB and then get your tail over here and write up this report for us, alright?
01:13:46Wait till you hear this.
01:13:52Wait a minute. The thing you were saying about gambling fascinates me.
01:13:56Now hold on, when your gambling is at your few hundred million bucks, and you were gonna blow it someplace, where would you go?
01:14:02Nearest place I can think of is Las Vegas.
01:14:04Vegas. I never thought of that.
01:14:21Captain, got a message here. Let's see, uh, Medford drove uptown. Be back in 20 or 30 minutes. Gonna pick up some shirts for the Vegas trip.
01:14:47How come you guys get all the plus jobs?
01:14:50Uh, a little more to report on that, uh, accident on the corner of McDowell and 16th Street.
01:14:57As we've, uh, been able to get the victim out of the car, it now appears that, through tentative identification at least, that he's one Inspector Joseph Medford. He appears to be dead.
01:15:11I can't believe Medford's accident. Want some cow juice? It's good for the ulcers.
01:15:17Yeah.
01:15:20I, uh, got the tickets to Las Vegas, but I don't understand why.
01:15:24Well, I'm not sure I, you know, understand why.
01:15:28What was that?
01:15:29Well, if you were a gambler with a gambler's rash and you had a million dollars to scratch it with, where's the nearest spot?
01:15:36Uh, I don't know.
01:15:38Well, I'm not sure I, you know, understand why completely myself.
01:15:42You know that thing in the report about Gardner's gambling habits?
01:15:45Yeah.
01:15:46Medford had a hunch.
01:15:48What was that?
01:15:49Well, if you were a gambler with a gambler's rash and you had a million dollars to scratch it with, where's the nearest spot?
01:15:58Las Vegas.
01:15:59Mm-hmm. That's where Medford thought we'd find our man.
01:16:03Oh, who can that be?
01:16:06Hello?
01:16:08Yeah, it's Hampton here.
01:16:10What do you slam, Harry?
01:16:13Yeah, Harry, Hampton.
01:16:15Mm-hmm.
01:16:16You've got to be kidding.
01:16:22Left front tire?
01:16:25He did.
01:16:31To the bank?
01:16:34To the bank.
01:16:39He said right.
01:16:44That's very interesting.
01:16:47Yeah, Harry, thanks for the call. I appreciate it.
01:16:51What's interesting?
01:16:53Medford's death was no accident. He was murdered.
01:16:57The lab boys found where an explosive charge had been placed on the left front tire rod.
01:17:01The car went out of control because of it, and that's how he managed to do it.
01:17:05The thing that's got them puzzled is they don't know how it was set off.
01:17:09It wasn't fastened to the electrical system of the car.
01:17:12What do you mean by that?
01:17:14Well, it had to be exploded another way.
01:17:17And I think I have the answer. I think it was a radio wave, radio frequency, which gets us back to our mutual friend, doesn't it?
01:17:24That blast would have wiped out both of us if Medford hadn't had to go out and get some clean shirts for that trip to Vegas.
01:17:30And that's where we're going to catch our man.
01:17:32Oh, come on, Hampton. You know better than that.
01:17:34What do you mean?
01:17:35Well, you know yourself that you can't book a man who looks like somebody that may or may not have died in an airplane crash 14 months ago.
01:17:42You've got to catch him with the money in his hot little hand or you're dead.
01:17:51You want to bet?
01:17:52Yeah.
01:17:53How much?
01:17:54I'll go 25.
01:17:55Oh, come on. Make it worthwhile. You've got a place to bet.
01:17:57All right, then. I'll go for it.
01:17:58You're on. I'll change my suit and we take a trip to Vegas.

01:23:05Thanks a lot.
01:23:10Melver soon to be delivered to the pursuers.
01:23:13I'll think she'll be from the airport, I hope.
01:23:16How the devil did you know I was here?
01:23:19Once a gambler, always a gambler.
01:23:21That's something I learned from Bedford.
01:23:24I sure wish you were here to see this.
01:23:27Oh, uh, you're thinking about money.
01:23:31Hey, uh...
01:23:34Go ahead and show us none of this water until the cockle's in the eye.
01:23:40That'll do just fine.
01:23:42That's something else I learned from Bedford.
01:23:44Buy you a drink?
