00:00Well, it was around 3.30 this morning when police responded to reports of gunfire in
00:06a unit block on Harold Street here at Parramatta.
00:10When they arrived, they found 29-year-old Tarek Ayyub in the car park suffering from
00:16fatal gunshot wounds, which they say was a result of more than one gunman.
00:20Mr Ayyub, who hails from Yuguna, is believed to have been here to meet with an associate
00:25of his in the unit block, and when he returned to his car, he was taken down in what police
00:30described as a hail-of-bullets execution style.
00:34Police have been on scene here since they first arrived in the early hours of this morning,
00:39and Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty gave an update into the investigation not
00:43long ago.
00:44Here's what he had to say.
00:45This was a targeted shooting.
00:48As I said, it was a well-known criminal identity, long history of violence.
00:55Due to the fact that he's known in the underworld circles as the Angel of Death, that was a
01:00nickname that was provided to him, information that we have.
01:05So Mr Ayyub certainly lived by the sword and died by the sword.
01:10Police say a burnt-out car found nearby in Granville is being looked at as a line of
01:15inquiry into this shooting, and say they are prepared to thwart any retaliatory action
01:20that may come as a result of this incident, and they are urging the community to come
01:24forward with any information they may have.
