00:00So a lot of entrepreneurs would also be seeing and watching and reading about this interaction.
00:08So any leadership lessons you want to share with them?
00:15Even before that life education was founded, I was teaching leadership.
00:20That was something done two decades back and left behind.
00:23It was only very recently that questions on leadership again came to me in context of
00:29the Lok Sabha elections.
00:31Otherwise, spirituality is more of an inner thing.
00:36So leading others is not something that I usually speak on, but yes you see if you want
00:48to lead people, you have to understand the difference between healing and exploitation.
01:06Like the Pied Piper, you could lead them to their doom.
01:12For a while, you will register some success.
01:17If we take a screenshot, it would show you as the leader with an entire army following
01:23you, but it doesn't help.
01:31A few months, a little bit of fame, that's the maximum you'll be able to draw from it.
01:46Leadership is engagement, engagement with a lot of people.
01:52You must be very conscious of what this engagement is doing to the other.
02:01You cannot relate to the other to perpetuate your own darkness.
02:07You fully will know you are not at ease with yourself and I'm not coming just from theory
02:15or Gita.
02:20I used to conduct a lot of management development programs also.
02:26So I have experience with top management, so that was long back.
02:33I'm coming from there as well.
02:39To lead is not to be fooled.
02:49You're not there to charm people.
02:55You must first of all go within and figure out what do you have for the other.
03:05It is great disrespect to the other and injustice to speak to him or her or even approach him
03:19before being internally sorted.
03:26I do not know my own life.
03:29I do not know the source of my own motivations.
03:33I do not know where my own desires come from and I want to infect the other with the same
03:44desire in the name of leadership and motivation.
03:50Am I sure that these desires or the goals I have set for myself have first of all been
03:56auspicious for me?
03:59What has not worked for me, how will it work for the other?
04:04The path that I am taking right now, has it been good even for me or is it a path that
04:15I am kind of sleepwalking on?
04:20So the best leaders are really good for their followers.
04:28The best leaders produce leaders and the general ones are more exploiters than leaders.
04:46They would want the follower to remain a follower.
04:49They have a stake in never letting the follower become a leader.
04:56So when you engage with someone, whether as a teacher or a leader, you have to ask
05:04yourself how soon will this person's dependency on me evaporate.
05:13The student is not with you to perpetually remain a student and the follower is not with
05:19you to forever remain a follower.
05:26Second is tremendous responsibility.
05:28If you are touching someone, you have to touch with responsibility, with care, I dare say
05:35with love, else don't touch anybody.
05:41If you are speaking to someone, you are entering his mind.
05:46You cannot enter somebody's mind to spoil it.
05:51Speaking is tremendous responsibility, policy making is tremendous responsibility.
05:55The policies that you are making in your organization are going to affect so many people,
06:00hundreds, probably thousands.
06:05You must be very conscious of what your policies are doing to the mind of the employee and
06:13also to the mind of all your stakeholders including your customers, consumers, the general
06:20public.
06:28Let me put it more materially.
06:33All businesses exist to fulfill a need.
06:42If a business does not clearly realize the need it is addressing, it will not survive.
06:52And all businesses need a customer.
06:56The customer is the human being.
07:01The most fundamental need of the human being is realization, illumination.
07:10Call it peace, call it love, whatever.
07:16Hence you must be able to, through your product or service, in some way bring illumination
07:24and peace to your customer because that is the most fundamental human need and the customer
07:31is first of all a human being.
07:35You are dealing with a human being and you say, I am here to fulfill a need.
07:39You must first of all know what that word need means.
