Tok Mat warns against complacency after Nenggiri victory
The recent success in the Nenggiri by-election does not guarantee an easy win for Umno in the coming Mahkota by-election, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
In his winding-up speech at the Umno general assembly on Saturday (Aug 24), the deputy president emphasised the need for Umno to work hard, noting that the circumstances in Mahkota would differ.
He also advised Umno members assisting in the Mahkota by-election to ensure their travel plans don’t disrupt campaign efforts and urged that discussions about the candidacy be conducted respectfully.

00:00Thank you, Mr. President.
00:06Maybe you are confused by what he said,
00:11but that's what's written in our leaders' hearts.
00:16Because sometimes we can't explain it in writing.
00:23I want your representatives
00:28to read what Mr. President said.
00:34Don't just listen, but read what he said.
00:43Because that's what we want to make sure
00:47that UMNO will rise again in the 16th election.
00:55Mr. President, it's already 6 o'clock.
00:59I don't believe in long speeches,
01:02because my colleagues have already spoken for a long time.
01:05Dato' Kamarudin Ropah has spoken for an hour.
01:08He said he didn't use text messages.
01:13Next time, use Dato' Kamarudin's text messages.
01:16Don't just use text messages.
01:19I'm just kidding.
01:21But this is a place for us to move forward.
01:27This is a place for us to lay the foundation.
01:31This is a place for us to make sure
01:34that if UMNO is serious about rising,
01:37this is the time for us to rise.
01:40Alhamdulillah, we won in Dengeri.
01:44That was a source of inspiration.
01:47Dato' Mr. President and I said,
01:51if we lose in Dengeri,
01:54we will have to bow our heads.
02:01But Alhamdulillah, we won.
02:04So tonight, I have an advice.
02:07Today, I want to say something.
02:15When you win, take care of your surroundings.
02:19The elders say,
02:22if you go up the mountain,
02:24your steps will go down.
02:26If you go up the mountain,
02:29your steps will go down.
02:34It's true.
02:36I'm not married yet.
02:38But the people who organize our wedding
02:43are tired.
02:45They work hard.
02:47Go down and meet them.
02:49Say thank you.
02:51And make sure that our wedding is a success.
02:58It's not hard to win the hearts of Malay people.
03:02If Malay people like it, they like it.
03:05It's not hard.
03:07But if they are lazy,
03:09it's not hard.
03:11Don't look for lazy people.
03:13So Alhamdulillah,
03:15the source of victory is many things.
03:18But the source of victory that I see in Gua Musah
03:21is because of the unity of the people
03:24under the leadership of Tengku Razali.
03:31No one is silent.
03:32When the name of Ali comes out,
03:35everyone agrees.
03:37And everyone is surprised.
03:39That's important.
03:41Because outsiders see us as a party.
03:43If they want to support us,
03:45it has to be a united party.
03:47A party that doesn't fight.
03:49A party that doesn't fight.
03:51Alhamdulillah,
03:53in the past 2-3 years,
03:55he has brought the Vietnamese
03:57who respect President Datuk Perseri.
03:59I have said,
04:00I have said,
04:02we have seen,
04:04we have felt
04:06how our party
04:08has started to feel
04:10peaceful and happy.
04:12People have started to see us again.
04:14Malay people,
04:16they want to come back to us.
04:18But it's up to us
04:20to bring them back.
04:22And we must send
04:24good messages.
04:26Messages that
04:28make people happy.
04:30Don't say,
04:32sometimes we say
04:34it hurts people's feelings.
04:36People are angry,
04:37they spit on us.
04:39So, ladies and gentlemen,
04:41we will meet again
04:43in the capital.
04:45The capital is waiting for us.
04:47Johor is waiting for us.
04:49It's true that we won
04:51more than 5,000 elections
04:53in the past.
04:55But in the general election,
04:57the parliament,
04:58they didn't help us.
05:00So, we have to be careful.
05:03Don't think that by winning 5,000,
05:05we can easily win.
05:07Don't think that by winning in the state,
05:09we can easily win in the capital.
05:12The field is different,
05:14the field is different,
05:16the way they play is different.
05:18So,
05:20go down and help.
05:22But when you go down,
05:24I want to remind my friends
05:26who want to go down,
05:28go down.
05:30This space is small.
05:32It's not big.
05:34Don't let us go down
05:36and make people feel lonely in the space.
05:39Go down and work.
05:41Don't go down and become a politician.
05:44Go down and help to work.
05:47And make sure
05:49we bring back
05:51and record the victory
05:53so we can keep the capital
05:55to our small customers.
05:58If Allah wills it,
06:00vote well and find a good candidate.
06:02The elders say
06:04don't hesitate to vote.
06:06Don't hesitate to vote.
06:08Vote well.
06:10Don't hesitate.
06:12When we vote,
06:14don't hesitate.
06:16Find the good one.
06:18When we get the good one,
06:20we respect and hope
06:22that she will be our bride
06:24in the capital.
06:26We can win, if Allah wills it.
06:28If you believe,
06:30workers must be strong
06:32and we must make sure
06:34that everything we do
06:36will bring goodness to us.
