00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of Perpetrator,
00:04so let's begin.
00:06In Jennifer Reeder's Perpetrator, there are two things that are happening simultaneously.
00:10Firstly, its protagonist, Johnny Baptiste, is undergoing a physical and psychological
00:15change that is causing her to hallucinate and bleed profusely at random times of the
00:19day.
00:20And secondly, there's a kidnapper on the loose who is picking up young girls in the area
00:24and apparently experimenting on them.
00:26Johnny is targeted by the local police officer for being an alleged thief, which is correct.
00:31But when she trusts the officer and his son, Kirk, to help her solve this issue, things
00:35go sideways for her, thereby forcing her to use her newfound powers to get herself out
00:39of this sticky situation.
00:42Here is everything you need to know about the ending, just to let you know this video
00:45will contain spoilers.
00:46Apparently, Johnny's powers, which allow her to morph her face and create a portal into
00:51a pool of water and blood, are hereditary in nature.
00:54Her mother and her father both have that ability, and that's why she has it, too.
00:59Since it's too much for both of them to handle, not only do they go their separate ways, but
01:03Johnny's father tells Johnny to go stay with her aunt because she has a grip on the supernatural
01:07stuff.
01:08On Johnny's 18th birthday, she has this psychedelic meltdown where she finally realizes that she
01:12isn't actually hallucinating and that she actually has superpowers.
01:16She explicitly asks Hilde, her aunt, to define what this phenomenon is, and Hilde says that
01:21she calls it a forevering.
01:23She says that it's a result of profound empathy for everything that's going on in the cosmos.
01:28She even calls it reverse possession.
01:31When Hilde says that she has been buried alive twice for having all these of feelings, I
01:34think that she is hinting at witchcraft.
01:37The photos in Hilde's house indicate that she's talking about it literally and that
01:40she has lived longer than normal human beings do and has been unjustly judged for her opinions
01:44or actions.
01:46On a metaphorical level, she is talking about how women always have to swim upstream to
01:50hold on to their basic rights.
01:52And if they do anything that the patriarchal society doesn't want them to do, then they
01:56are buried, discarded, or abused.
01:59Johnny is on the cusp of adulthood, and she is starting to discover herself while trying
02:02to define herself in this rapidly changing and hostile world.
02:06Therefore, it's important for her to understand her powers, both metaphorical and literal,
02:10before she makes a decision for herself and those around her.
02:14Why does Johnny get kidnapped?
02:16After escaping the clutches of Officer Sterling during a burglary, Johnny goes for a sleepover
02:20with Elektra.
02:22The following day, they get into a conversation about the kidnappings, and Elektra points
02:26out that all the girls who have disappeared are somehow connected to Kirk, that is Officer
02:30Sterling's son.
02:31So they corner Kirk and force him to spill the truth.
02:35While all this is going on, the perpetrator hints at the connection between Principal
02:38Burke, Marcy, who is undergoing extensive plastic surgery, and Officer Sterling.
02:43It doesn't seem like a big issue as the narrative shifts to a party where Kirk essentially admits
02:47that he is somehow responsible for the disappearance of all the girls.
02:51They theorize that the kidnapper is using Kirk's choice of girls as a playlist of sorts
02:55and then abducting them.
02:57So, Johnny tells Kirk to put her on this playlist, which is a roundabout way of saying that she
03:02wants to be the bait.
03:03Johnny wants to get kidnapped so that she can get to the kidnapper's lair and then
03:06rescue the girls with the help of her powers.
03:09While Johnny and Kirk are having a conversation about all this in the middle of a cemetery,
03:13Officer Sterling magically shows up and offers her a ride home.
03:17Once he tells Kirk to go pick up his stepmother, Johnny has no option but to take Sterling's
03:21help.
03:22Just as she's about to step out of the cop car, someone knocks her out, which confirms
03:26the fact that Sterling is actually working with the kidnapper to get the girls.
03:30Elektra was right about being followed by a man in a mask, the kidnapper, and a cop car
03:34simultaneously until she vomited and basically made herself unappealing.
03:39Does Johnny find out the identity of the kidnapper?
03:42Here's where things get considerably icky, as we see that the face mask-wearing kidnapper
03:46has drugged Johnny and inserted a tube into her body via a flesh-like USB port.
03:50After ordering Johnny not to cry because he thinks it's unappealing, the kidnapper proceeds
03:54to connect that tube to a hole in his body.
03:57I don't know how else to describe it.
04:00All I can say is that it is very Cronenberg-esque, and if you have seen a Cronenberg film, you
04:04know exactly what I'm talking about.
04:06I am assuming that the kidnapper tries to exchange body fluids for some reason, but
04:10Johnny starts to mimic his words and actions, and that freaks out the kidnapper, and he
04:14knocks her out again.
04:16When Johnny wakes up, she finds herself on a bed under which all of the kidnapper's victims
04:20are hiding.
04:21Aviva, who is one of the victims, says that they are being stripped for parts, and I think
04:25she means that literally.
04:27As in, the kidnapper is literally taking the body parts of the victims and using them.
04:32Johnny refuses to give up and traps the kidnapper in one of her blood puddle contraptions, and
04:36then escapes with all the victims.
04:39Johnny's birth mother shows up because her special power is her sense of smell.
04:43Johnny's reunion with her mother seems to be the point at which the movie is going to
04:47conclude.
04:48However, it goes past that point, and the narrative returns to the school.
04:52In Perpetrator's ending, it is revealed that Principal Burke is the kidnapper because he
04:56has a flesh-like USB port on his chest.
04:59Johnny's mother kidnaps Burke and puts him in her van.
05:02When Johnny finds out about it, she fights with Burke and literally pulls his heart out.
05:07It's a pretty amazing moment in an otherwise timid film.
05:10Later on, we see the girls attending a dinner party at Hilde's house, with Johnny learning
05:14to embrace her powers and her fangs.
05:17Burke, being the kidnapper, confirms the theory that he was replacing his body parts and Marcy's
05:22with those of the victims in order to stay young.
05:25That's all for now folks, I would appreciate it if you could give the video a super thanks
05:28with a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel so you can see more content like this everyday,
05:32take care, bye!
