00:00Now Africa Centers for Disease Control or the CDC says that it's just days away from starting
00:06mpox vaccinations in countries on the front line of the viral outbreak that began in DR Congo last
00:13September. At least 16,700 cases and 570 fatalities have been logged in the country this year so far.
00:22The surge has been declared an international health emergency by the WHO but it is also
00:29stressing that risks of its spread are not comparable to those that powered the COVID-19
00:35outbreak as treatments for mpox are available. France is donating 100,000 vaccines to affected
00:42countries, the US has pledged 50,000 to Kinshasa and the African Union sending 200,000 more vaccine
00:49doses across the continent. Mpox cases have also been detected in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda
00:56and Uganda since July. Cross-border travellers in the region are keenly aware of the risks.
01:05I'm afraid that I might get the virus as I travel because the government does not cater to us.
01:09We have traffic jams from Mombasa to Malaba but there's no screening until we reach the border.
01:14After having dealt with the COVID-19 and then we have this,
01:19yeah it could be scary a little bit because we don't know how far this can stretch and
01:25so personally I haven't experienced that and none of my close friends or relatives
01:30have got in touch with this virus but I just hope this is dealt with.
