00:05APPLAUSE
00:31Well, good afternoon and welcome to the Countdown Studio.
00:35It's long been the case that people want to live forever
00:38and to such an extent they are now able,
00:41and have been for some time, actually, to be fair,
00:44to have their bodies frozen after death,
00:46way, way down to minus 200 degrees Celsius,
00:49in the hope, Rachel, and you know all about this sort of thing,
00:53that future science will enable that to be brought back to life
00:58and perhaps, you know, to live for another 100 years
01:01because science will have advanced so much in those days.
01:03Now there's a firm in Arizona, it's got to be in the States, hasn't it,
01:07who will do it for you? Happily.
01:09$200,000, they'll freeze you so cold
01:13and then, you know, one day, maybe, when they've banked the £200,000.
01:19Yeah. Exactly.
01:21Good business model, isn't it?
01:23It is, really, because they're going to outlive it.
01:25No-one's going to come back and argue. No.
01:27I'm being frozen myself.
01:29They can have my organs, they can have everything, but I'm dead.
01:32I'm not coming back. No, you're right.
01:34That's my final word on it. They're not having 200 grand.
01:37Neither are they getting any of my money either, down there in Arizona.
01:41All right. We're agreed on that? Yes.
01:43Brilliant. Who have we got with us?
01:45Paul Harper's back. Well done, Paul.
01:47Three good wins. Yes, so far.
01:49Manchester finance officer. You're joined by Curtis.
01:52How are you, Curtis? All right.
01:54Curtis Thompson, computer science student at Warwick,
01:57originally from Leicester.
01:59Loves running and working your way up to the Bilbao Night Marathon
02:04later this year, raising money for the university rag.
02:08Yeah. Well, I've already done half-marathon.
02:11I did Reading half-marathon two years ago.
02:14OK. But now I thought, may as well push it further.
02:16What sort of time are you aiming for?
02:18Well, I did half-marathon in one hour 51.
02:21So, hopefully, four hours I'm aiming for for the full marathon.
02:24Well, good luck to you anyway. I hope you raise lots of dosh.
02:27Thanks. Well done.
02:29Let's have a big round of applause for Curtis and Paul.
02:36And over sitting next to the wonderful Susie, welcome back, Susie,
02:39is long-standing broadcaster Adrian Childs.
02:43Welcome back, Adrian. Thank you very much.
02:46APPLAUSE
02:49Long-standing. You get to sit down occasionally, I'm sure.
02:52Anyway, I was feeling quite chirpy when I came in here,
02:55then you talking about death and freezing bodies.
02:57I need picking up a bit now.
02:59Long-standing. Yeah. Long-standing, yes.
03:02All right. More from you later. More from you later.
03:06Now, Paul, let's just go. Yes. Why not? Why not?

06:30I don't know if anything can be out rained.
06:34Out rained. No, out ran, not out rain. Sorry.
06:37Curtis told me his strength was numbers, doing computer science,
06:40but he's come right up with the rails on that one.
06:43Let's see what happens when the numbers come round.
06:46And that's right now.
06:48It's Paul's numbers game. Yes, Paul?

13:28Well done.
13:32Strong opening half there. Well done, Curtis.
13:3434 plays 20 as we turn to Adrian.
13:37Adrian Charles.
13:39What have we today, I wonder?
13:41Well, we mentioned the World Cup
13:43and I talked about being in Germany.
13:45This was my first World Cup as a broadcaster.
13:48I moved on to Johannesburg in 2010 and then Rio in 2014.
13:53And it always struck me, wherever we went,
13:55wherever the World Cups were held, and it's the same this time,
13:58the hand of history was all...
14:00The ones I went to was totally on your shoulder.
14:02Berlin, it reeks of history.
14:04And then Johannesburg,
14:06the more recent sort of horrendous history of that country.
14:10And security was unbelievably tight all around us.
14:14We had this security detail. We were in the middle of Johannesburg.
14:17Everywhere we went, I had this armed guard.
14:19I mean, he didn't have a gun on him, but he was tooled up.
14:22He was ex-special forces.
14:24But there was something that struck me as profound
14:28about Berlin and Johannesburg and Rio,
14:31and it was particularly true of Johannesburg.
14:34And the theme was walls.
14:36Berlin, there was this big wall, obviously, that went around it.
14:39Johannesburg, every tiny little dwelling had a huge wall,
14:4412ft tall, with probably rays of wire on the top, everywhere you went.
14:48And it was true in Rio to a certain extent.
14:51And I just thought how blessed we are in this country.
14:54Very few people are building walls round their places.
14:57And it just felt so lovely to come back home from Johannesburg, I remember.
15:01I don't know, I just think we're sort of truly blessed in a way.
15:04You know, whenever there's walls, there's problems.
15:07I'm sorry to be so dark about it,
15:09but you weren't talking about freezing bodies for 200 years,
15:12I thought I'd try something like that.
15:14No, I think you're absolutely right.
15:16And in fact, I was in South Africa in Johannesburg last summer.
15:19We wanted to go to a restaurant that, I promise you,
15:22was less than three minutes away.
15:24They wouldn't let us walk there on our own.
15:26It's ridiculous. I said, don't do that, I can see it.
15:28Nope. You've got to have an escort.
15:32Very sad, really. Very, very, very sad.
15:35Thank you for that. 34 plays 20, Paul. It's your letters game.
15:39I'll start with a consonant, please, Rachel.

17:03Yes. And Adrian?
17:05We put the I in fixes and have fixies, single gear bikes.
17:09You can't free wheel in them, essentially.
17:11And pixies are there as well.
17:13Ah, little pixies. Indeed.
17:1534 plays 25.
17:17Curtis is there, OK?
