Retain and reflect Malay heritage in Padang Merdeka, Sultan Abdul Samad building, National Mosque and Carcosa Seri Negara when developing these places, reminds Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

During the launch of the Bumiputra Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) on Monday (Aug 18), the Prime Minister emphasised that any development around the Sultan Abdul Samad building and its surrounding areas should maintain their distinctive Malay heritage.

Anwar also expressed his vision for a cleaner Kuala Lumpur, where development benefits all sectors of society, ensuring that the transformation of the city serves the broader public rather than just select groups.

00:00We know that we are from the land and area of Padang Merdeka,
00:15the building of Suta Merdeka,
00:18Padang Merdeka is not because of the center of reformation,
00:22I just want to tell you.
00:25When you arrive at Masjid Negara,
00:31Station Karatapi, and Kakosa,
00:35Kuala Lumpur's development must have a unique characteristic.
00:40It should not be considered as Mark Twain,
00:46if you look at Washington in the early years.
00:50Kuala Lumpur, impressive buildings, but culturally barren.
00:56And we don't want Kuala Lumpur to be a concrete jungle.
01:01Therefore, the green area,
01:04and what is called the area in front of Padang Merdeka,
01:10the building of Suta Merdeka,
01:12throughout it will be a heritage area.
01:17And this heritage, even though there are contributions from other people,
01:21the heritage in Malay land,
01:24which is still a Malay heritage,
01:27which must be placed in the image of the new development
01:31throughout the corridor of Baduyan Sebesamat.
01:38This is what is called the transformation of the economy of Bung Putra.
01:43I believe that the others can be announced,
01:47but I want to focus on the big things.
01:50So, we have seen that Kuala Lumpur is clean.
01:55The development of Bung Putra is not only about big buildings and big companies,
02:01including what is placed in Kuala Lumpur,
02:05we want all the stalls to be clean.
02:08Because 80% of the people go to the stalls and small restaurants.
02:14Those who go to the 5-star and 7-star restaurants,
02:18only 15% of the people.
02:20But sometimes, we put the 80% aside.
02:24Therefore, now I can see,
02:27Kuala Lumpur must change its face,
02:30giving priority to what is used by the people,
02:34including the stalls all over Kuala Lumpur.
