00:00Perikatan Nasional chose the wrong candidate leading to its defeat at the Nanggiri by-election

00:08according to a coalition source.

00:10The party insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told FMT that PN candidate Rizwadi

00:16Ismail was found to be popular only with the congregations at the mosques.

00:21However, Barisat Nasional fielded the right candidate in Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, who

00:26won the seat with a comfortable majority of 3,352 votes.

00:30Azmawi secured 9,091 votes, while Rizwadi managed only 5,739 votes.

00:37The PN source said Azmawi was very close to the youth in Nanggiri and Guamusang and had

00:41sponsored youth events.

00:43Azmawi also leveraged on his position as a board member of the South Kelantan Development

00:48Authority, which set up 70% of the facilities in Guamusang, leading to the swing in youth

00:53votes.

00:54PN also suffered internal dissent over the choice of candidate, the source said.

00:58Bersatu had mooted two candidates, but PAS was not too keen on them because of their

01:02experience with Azizi Abu Naim, who won in 2022 on a Bersatu ticket.

01:07The source said if PN fielded either one of the Bersatu members, the coalition would have

01:11stood a better chance.
