00:00More than 130 Liberal Party members were in Lesmurdy to vote on who they wanted to represent
00:07them in the new seat.
00:08He's coming, he's coming.
00:10The winner was army veteran and former ministerial adviser and journalist Matt Moran.
00:15Look, I'm humbled that the local members have selected me.
00:19It was a rigorous process, well done to the other candidates and I now wait to be ratified
00:24by State Council.
00:25Thank you very much.
00:27The ABC understands Mr Moran got 78 out of 137 votes.
00:32One of the candidates was vet Holly Ludeman, who's been at the forefront of the campaign
00:36to save the live sheep trade by sea.
00:38The Albanese Government's steps to ban the trade is what spurred former National State
00:42Leader Mia Davies to run for Bullwinkle.
00:45She's now the official candidate.
00:47I wanted to be here today as the leader of the Federal National Party to show respect
00:51and show the people of Western Australia and the people of Bullwinkle how serious the Nationals
00:56take this challenge.
00:57This is notionally a Labor seat and it still is.
01:01The Coalition's only chance to win this seat is Mia Davies.
01:04Prime Minister Albanese was handed the keys to the lodge by West Australians and since
01:08then we've had nothing but pain.
01:10We've seen policy initiatives and attacks on industry that are the lifeblood and underpinning
01:16of our state and national economy.
01:18Mia Davies' hometown of Northern will be in the new seat, which includes Kalamunda
01:22and York, and takes in parts of several Federal electorates, including Canning, Durack, O'Connor
01:28and Hasluck.
01:29Mia Davies will remain the member for Central Wheatbelt until the writs are issued for the
01:33Federal election.
01:35Bullwinkle is set to become one of the more interesting contests, with the Liberal and
01:39National parties serving up high profile candidates.
01:42So I think this again shows, in a sense, the fractious nature and the fact that the National
01:48Party and Liberal Party are not working together.
01:51Labor is yet to announce its candidate for the new seat.
