00:00appear three times. First for Honda's Tom Christensen.
00:09Then roll over and take a bow, Class B driver Alan Morrison.
00:20Stoppage came when James Thompson lost his Honda and in the process wiped out
00:25our cameraman. A lucky escape for James to retire some problems for him. No
00:32problems for Jason Plato though because he's right up behind Peter Cox and he's
00:36pushed him off. Cox has been pushed into the infield. Welcome back to touring cars
00:40Peter. Right in the corner now. Oh hello boys. What's going on there? That's Jason
00:45Plato about to pounce. Gives him a nudge and another one. A left, right, right, left
00:49and then a punch and he's off. Oh, Matt Neil has not helped himself. Now we've got a right
00:55hander McLean. Something's got to give here. That's Plato on the inside and he
00:58shovels Christensen straight into the door and Christensen's off. Reid says I'll
01:02have a bit of this as well. Menu's been held up. Reid puts his nose down the inside.
01:05Shoulder to shoulder. In a door handle to door handle battle with the championship
01:10leader Alan Menu.
01:14The Ford making a lunge down the inside into Alan's for the first time.
01:17Brademacher and Plato side-by-side and that's one of the Fords off. It's Rydell.
01:21Rydell off in a very big way. We're on board with Tarquini. You've got Reid on
01:26the right, Christensen in the middle, Rydell on the outside and literally the two
01:30Fords concertina la Honda. Leslie slides through on the inside. He's off.
01:36Leslie spun. Neil's off with him. They're going over 100 miles an hour through
01:40there amazingly. No major contact. That was a huge moment.
01:44They're trying to get past and that's a car off. That's a Ford. That's Menu. Alan Menu is off.
01:49We've got a break soon. Under brakes now. There's some contact.
01:53That's Jason Plato. Jason Plato looks like he tagged his teammate.
01:59Rydell is off as well. Muller's caught up in that.
02:04Muller's feelings were obvious to all.
02:15Place on the track, Wally. Yes it is. Big disappointment.
02:19And Muller. Oh, that felt so good, he thinks to himself.
02:22He's the lead and control of the car on the exit to Cotscourt.
02:32Very, very badly for Jason. He's just lost a spot to his teammate. He's just lost a spot to Reid.
02:37And now he's been shutted off as well. I think that was a Honda maybe.
02:41When Anthony Reid rammed his teammate Ricard Rydell.
02:44Whilst battling with Vincent Radamacker for sixth, came together on the exit of Luffield.
02:49Radamacker lost control of his car onto the infield.
02:52And then T-boned Reid as he came back onto the track out of control.
02:55Both cars suffering severe damage.
03:00All he could do was wonder what the hell had hit him.
03:03From this on-board shot you get a graphic idea of the impact sustained by.
03:07Place ahead of us is Alain Menu. Around the carousel.
03:11Now through. Big curb hopping both sides.
03:14Runs it well. Actually runs it very wide.
03:16An absolute tank slapper from Jason Plato and he's off.
03:20Slide, slide, round and round we go.
03:24On the infield and ahead of us is the Hondas.
03:28Tight left-hander and unbelievable.
03:30That's a huge accident. That was back on shore of Tarquini's car.
03:35Plato has absolutely nailed that.
03:38Plato just didn't seem to slow down.
03:40I mean, all of a sudden the gap between the Honda and the Vauxhall just evaporated.
03:44Just had a big shunt and the throttle's just stuck.
03:48Made the wall bounce back.
03:50Now let's have a look what happened on-board with Jason.
03:53Well, you can see nothing happened. He lifts off and the car just keeps going.
03:57Of course, Tarquini's slowing down at the same time.
04:00The combination of those two is just like a massive motorway accident.
04:04Now here's the view back from Matt Neil's car.
04:07You can see the force of that impact.
04:10Now Jason's teammate Muller was following.
04:13In fact, just a quick thinking of Plato, he used Tarquini to beat him.
04:17And fortunately the impact was not too straight.
04:20Just a follow a little bit to the barrier and the car just smashed into the barrier.
04:25Gets down into the chicane. Brakes and...
04:28He's not on the limit. What, he's over it.
04:30Sideways, sideways limit. Loses it.
04:33Easy tiger.
04:36Christensen got his light damaged to the steering.
04:39That's Tom Christensen and his front right steering arm, I guess.
04:43Something like that has collapsed.
04:45The sprint race, though, was more about survival than racing.
04:48A first lap incident involving James Thompson brought out the first of two safety cars.
04:53Then after the restart, this big moment involving the Ford of Alain Menu
04:57and the Vauxhalls of Ivan Muller and Vincent Rademacher.
05:04Go on! Go on!
05:10Cue the second safety car of the evening.
05:12And all this before it's even become dark.
05:15His lead on the rest of the field. Out of the dark, the Class B boys were at play.
05:19Mark Lemmer being turned around at Russell Corner.
05:24Gabriele Tarquini, who qualified his Honda on pole position, lost all his advantage.
05:29Coming up into the hairpin for the first time.
05:31Reid, Reid to the left of us and Reid is off.
05:33Look as though he reversed off the track.
05:36Now, there's a bit of a dust storm there down in Potter Bend.
05:38There's the Class B runners and there's Contax.
05:41That's Collard and the Nissan getting a front and rear end bang up the Armco.
05:45Get started again.
05:55They're ready for a race and they are away.
05:58Anthony Reid on the left.
06:00Riccardo Riedel switches to the left and he hits Alain Menu.
06:02Riedel and Menu touch. Riedel is wounded. He's out.
06:05Reid is still through. He's leading.
06:07Riedel has stopped in the middle of the track.
06:09Has everyone fed past? Yes, they have.
06:10No, one of the Alfa Romeos.
06:13That's Ferrier. He's been caught up on that.
06:15Clipped somebody as well. Been turned to the infield.
06:17Now, here's another look at Gavin Piper.
06:22That's Kay.
06:23There's Contax. Somehow Piper attacked the back of Kay.
06:26And there was Dan Eves in the Peugeot.
06:28And there he goes. Big shot. That was a big accident.
06:30Now, that's a car we're not going to expect to see out in the future, Ace.
06:33And luckily, well, you don't.
06:35That's Alain Menu right beside us.
06:37In through Maggots Corner. We've got a turn right in the second.
06:40Neil and Menu very close.
06:42Jason Plato. Menu is off. Menu is spinning. Can he hold it?
06:45Menu is off. And Plato. Jason Plato has collected him.
06:49On the turn in to Becketts.
06:52Sidewards, and I had nowhere to go but kind of stop.
06:55And I kind of stopped waiting for him to get out of my way.
06:58And I got a punt up the rear, and that sent me into Alain's.
07:04And an absolute death wobble there for Matt Heal.
07:06Turning into the complex. Hangs onto it.
07:08Side by side. Rubbing pedals with each other.
07:11Big slide by Neil Tuck. Quickly through.
07:14Great pass that began. Coming out of Abbey.
07:17Tank position was critical. He got the drive up the hill.
07:19Oh, look at this.
07:20And Tarquini tries to do exactly the same thing,
07:22and it doesn't work. And more impact.
07:24Ah, that's Anthony Reid.
07:26Well, talk about deja vu.
07:28We saw the same thing happen to Anthony Reid
07:30some months ago in the first round here at Silverstone.
07:33Now, let's have another look.
07:35There's Anthony Reid going off backwards into Tarquini.
07:38He was turned around and then, if you like, got his own back.
07:42Muller was right in the thick of that. Here's his view.
07:44Well, Muller gets a very good view,
07:46but what happens is Tarquini takes a very wide line, cuts back.
07:49Reid tries to stay in the middle of the road
07:51to prevent Tarquini coming through.
07:53He went into the grass, and he come back onto the track,
07:57and he take me off.
08:02Bit of instant retribution there.
08:04Points for second would be better than points for third.
08:06I want the point back. In down the inside.
08:09Oh, just pats him out of the way, and Thompson is off,
08:12and Rydell back in P2.
08:14McNeil seems to have the corner,
08:16but Rademacher is going to muscle his way through.
08:18Is he? He pushes him out of the way.
08:22This is not... Oh, and almost picks up.
08:26Organized pandemonium there.
08:28And Anthony Reid, boy, he's getting really mad now.
08:31That's McNeil in the way, and he wants the place.
08:34Huge crowd gathered. Plato looking, lining him up down the inside.
08:38Can he get through? Excuse me.
08:40Down there's a slower runner there. Tarquini moves.
08:42Tarquini is spinning. It works.
08:45Flashes lights. Blue light letting us know where he is now.
08:48Rademacher lunging down the inside.
08:50Contact sliding sideways.
08:53Ladies and gentlemen, test your partners.
08:55Synchronized slide there through bridge and into the left-hander.
08:59And all of a sudden, there he is.
09:01Well, we don't see him, but you can certainly see the effect.
09:04Massive dig in the left-hand door of Tarquini's Honda.
09:07Makes you feel winded. There's another look.
09:11Gabriele Tarquini stands on the power there.
09:13Left and a right coming up here.
09:15There's the left. Here's the right. And Reid is around.
09:18I don't know if there was contact, but Reid sliding across the track
09:21and off and in the gravel.
09:23Well, that's awful. Anthony Reid, his championship is gone.
09:27Christensen lets off some steam
09:29and then remembers who's paying his wages.
09:31But what about the last few laps?
09:33I mean, what can you do at that time?
