Indonesians celebrate 79th Independence Day in new capital Nusantara
The readiness of Indonesia's new capital Nusantara was put to the test when it hosted the 79th Independence Day celebration on Saturday (Aug 17).

00:00Indonesia celebrated its independence at the new palace in Nusantara on Saturday.
00:08Held in the new Indonesian capital for the first time, the scaled-back ceremony saw the
00:14guests' turnout cut down to 1,300 people from 8,000 people as lodging and food supply
00:21were limited.
00:22Nusantara is being developed in Kalimantan, Borneo, to replace Jakarta as the capital.
00:29It is about 1,200 kilometers from Jakarta.
00:33Another celebration was also held simultaneously in Jakarta.
00:38A legacy project of outgoing President Joko Widodo, Nusantara has been beset by problems
00:44such as construction delays, limited funding, a lack of foreign investment, and more recently,
00:51resignations of project leaders.
00:54Joko has sought to shore up confidence in the mega-project in recent months, breaking
00:59ground for hotels and office buildings, and holding the first cabinet meeting at the new
01:04palace.
01:05He said plans to relocate civil servants to Nusantara could be postponed, depending on
01:11the readiness of the capital city.
01:13Incoming President Prabowo Subianto, who also attended the ceremony in Nusantara, has promised
01:20to continue the new capital project.
