New minimum wage proposal to be presented to Cabinet next month, says Sim

The proposal for a new minimum wage is expected to be presented at a Cabinet meeting next month, said Human Resources Minister Steven Sim after attending the Manpower Department Training Institute convocation in Selangor on Saturday (Aug 17).

00:00We have held the National Salary Competition, which is the main platform for the Minimum Wage
00:15Competition, which was held last June.
00:20This competition was organized by the Tripartite, which consists of representatives from the employers,
00:27workers' unions and government representatives.
00:33Tan Sri Zainar, who is a former KSM member, was the host of this competition.
00:48Tan Sri Zainar has a lot of experience, especially in the issue of minimum wage.
00:57Tan Sri Zainar is one of the people directly involved in drafting the Minimum Wage Act.
01:07The Commission has sent a report to the Tripartite.
01:14When we received the report from the Commission, we have prepared a paper for the relevant ministries
01:28to be reviewed.
01:31I expect that by the end of this month, we will have received the report and we will
01:37submit it to the Cabinet for consideration and decision-making at the Cabinet level
01:42regarding the new minimum wage.
01:44I think that this submission will be carried out because we will receive the report by
01:50the end of August, so the submission will be carried out in September.
