00:00Despite Sundlund's loss on Tuesday in the League Cup, Regis Lebris was cheerful in his
00:07pre-match media briefing ahead of the visit of Sheffield Wednesday to Wearside.
00:12The Frenchman was quick to explain what he had learned from the Cup exit in terms of
00:16understanding the depth of his squad at this stage of the new season.
00:23I think that for me it wasn't only an analysis about this game, but an improvement between
00:31three games as explained before.
00:35If we want to have a good season together, we will need 14, 15, 16, 17 players.
00:44So all these players need to have the same idea about the football we want to play.
00:50So it's more difficult for them because they are not involved in the pre-season games.
00:57So as a staff, as a head coach, we need to be very close to them and to help them to
01:04grow in these ideas.
01:06So their improvement was interesting, I think.
01:11Not enough to win against Preston and would like to win for sure, but it wasn't the case.
01:19It's a long process, sometimes we are low, sometimes we are high, but I think now they
01:24are closer than the beginning of the season.
01:27Le Brice then made clear that losing at Preston was not the ideal outcome, but that the Championship
01:32remains the priority for Sunderland this season.
01:38It's always a frustration to lose, really.
01:40So I can't be happy after this game, but our main priority is the Championship.
01:49It's a reality.
01:50And because of the process, it was, I think, the best solution for that game.
01:56Then when asked about his relationship with the board on transfers, Le Brice outlined
02:01how the structure operates at the club, as Sunderland continue to search for that all-important
02:06striker before the window closes at the end of August.
02:12They work behind the scenes on the different profiles, they analyse many, many players.
02:18At the end, they think that one, three, four can switch with our expectation and I have
02:25an analysis on it as well, so I can make the link between their work with many, many players
02:34available on the earth, really, because all the players are now available.
02:41And the link with our team, with our expectation as head coach and the staff, and the link
02:47between my feelings and the needs on the pitch, because I'm with the players all the time.
02:56So we are working together and it's very, very close.
