Taiwan's Paris Olympians Parade Through Taipei

Huge crowds packed the streets of Taipei to cheer for the country's top athletes at the Olympic Victory Parade.

00:00From the Arc de Triomphe to a train through Taipei, Taiwan's Olympians marched through
00:11Taiwan's capital on Friday, celebrating their performance at the Paris Summer Games.
00:16The national team, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, bagged a total of seven medals
00:21this year, two gold and five bronze.
00:30To honor their achievements, Taiwan's presidential office held this party and parade.
00:35Athletes and their coaches and, for the first time, some of their family members were all
00:39invited.
00:41They met Taiwan's President Lai Ching-de at the presidential office building before kicking
00:45off the event.
00:46I would like to thank all the Olympic heroes for your courage throughout the whole process.
00:55It is even more difficult to be able to stand on the Olympic podium after a day and a half
01:05of hard training.
01:06No matter if you won the medal or not, every one of you is a Taiwanese, a national hero.
01:17After meeting the President, they took to the streets.
01:21Led by a police motorcade and several marching bands, they marched from the presidential office
01:26along Taipei's major roads.
01:28I'm here at Hero Valley, the section of the parade with athletes behind me going down
01:34the streets to greet their fans.
01:36And our organizers have handed out thousands of these flags for the public to get into
01:40the spirit at the event.
01:43The atmosphere is going wild.
01:45People are excited about their athletes and cheering for them.

01:52Fans poured out of their offices to take time out of the day to express their support for
01:57their favorite athletes.
01:58The one I miss the most is Lin Yu-ting.
02:01She's been through a lot, but she's still very strong and determined.

02:22A lot of other people are tall and handsome, too.

02:31The parade proved to be quite an experience for the athletes as well.

02:44I'm also very happy to see a lot of fans cheering for us on the street.

03:02For many of Taiwan's athletes, this parade concludes this year's summer games.
03:07Eight walked away with medals, to ending this chapter in Taiwanese sport on a high note.
03:13With the next summer games, Los Angeles 2028, just four years away.
