00:00Leslie Liao is on the ground in Paris to give us an update on Team Taiwan's progress.
00:05Leslie, what's in store for the country's athletes today?
00:09Hi, Betty. Well, the biggest event for Team Taiwan today is in men's badminton doubles.
00:16Defending gold medalists Wang Qilin and Liang will face off against the Danish team in the
00:20semifinals today. And actually, that competition is set to start relatively soon. In women's
00:27boxing, Ling Yuting will go up against Uzbek boxer Sitora Tirtibakova later this afternoon.
00:33Now, Ling has been dogged by controversy in recent days over her gender eligibility,
00:38but the International Olympic Committee has cleared her to fight. In archery, Taiwan's
00:43mixed team fell to South Korea this morning. South Korean archers have been dominant throughout
00:48these games, but Taiwan's team managed to push them into a shoot-off. There will also be other
00:53competitions in categories like swimming, golf and shooting as well.
01:00So, Leslie, can you tell us a bit more about how Team Taiwan is doing overall?
01:08Sure, Betty. Team Taiwan has gotten off to a bit of a rough start.
01:12Medal hopefuls like judoka Yang Yongwei and badminton player Dai Jing have been
01:18eliminated already. Taiwan has fallen out of contention in about half of the categories
01:23that it's competing in. So far, the country has not won any medals officially yet,
01:29but it is guaranteed at least one bronze. And there are still athletes who are set to compete
01:35in categories that Taiwan is particularly good at, like taekwondo and weightlifting,
01:39so there is still hope for Taiwan to take a few more medals at these games. The Olympic
01:44tally has China at the top with the most gold medals won so far, followed closely behind
01:49by the U.S. and France.
