Former Customs intelligence official tags Duterte son, 2 others in seized shabu shipment in 2018

Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, the House of Representatives' overall chairman of the Quad Committee, says he and his fellow lawmakers will weigh the testimony of Jimmy Guban, a former Customs intelligence official, who claimed that Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, second gentleman Manases Carpio, and former Duterte adviser Michael Yang owned the seized multibillion-peso shabu shipment in 2018. The concurrent chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Committee spoke to media at the end of the first day of the public hearing in Bacolor, Pampanga on Aug. 16, 2024. The Quad Committee is composed of four House committees conducting joint hearings on dangerous drugs and the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) under the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

00:00When I mentioned, when you first asked me, I said that a lot of people are expressing that they want to share information with the committee.
00:16I said, this is what we are welcoming. Of course, we will weigh their testimony.
00:23Will this help with the objectives of the Quadcom? If this won't help, we will not include this in our committee report.
00:31Sir, last question. How credible do you find him to be? Because the statement you retracted, wasn't already a retracted statement before.
00:40I agree with you. In fact, we asked that question. We asked him, what is the motive? Why did your decision change?
00:51You recanted your statement. He said that he wants to have a real justice because he was forced to say what he shouldn't have said.
01:04So, that is the most surprising point. Apparently, there seems to be a pressure when he was investigated.
01:14Where it became a reason for him not to sleep.
01:18Sir, how much weight are you giving his testimony?
01:21You know, like you said, a lot of people want to share information. We will really weigh this.
01:34You can all hope that we will not include this in our politically motivated committee reports.
01:41Because for us, this is the truth. For the country. For our children.
