00:00I think this film is obviously, yes, it's about sex, it's about desire, it's about

00:07your inner thoughts, it's about secrets, it's about marriage, it's about truth, power, consent.

00:18So language for sex, it's so complicated, that answer, because what is the...

00:24This is one woman's story, and this is, I hope, a very liberating story.

00:30So I don't think there's a judgment attached to it. That's for each person that sees the film

00:35to interpret. Their interpretation of it will be wildly different. I'm sure if we polled everyone

00:42in this room, they would have a completely different reaction to Romy and the way she behaves.

00:48My connection to it is that I want to examine human beings, I want to examine women on screen,

00:56I want to examine what it means to be human, and in all the facets of that, and the labyrinth of

01:05that. I'm very delighted to be able to make a film about female desire, but it's also a film

01:12about a woman in an existential crisis, and it has many layers, and I'm very excited to talk

01:17about it today, and very grateful to do it here in Venice.

01:22That doesn't mean that the film is not also about masculinity. It deals with femininity,

01:27masculinity, power, control, sexuality, and all those different things, and I think at the core

01:32of it, for me, it is about the question, can I love myself in all my different layers?

01:38And I hope it will function as a tribute to self-love and liberation.
