New 'Bridget Jones' film opens in cinemas

As the new Bridget Jones film opens in cinemas, fans praise the character who 'brings warmth to life' while industry experts say the role played for over 20 years by Renee Zellweger is relatable and appeals across generations. In the franchise's latest release, Bridget (Renee Zellweger) is now a single mum of two after the passing of her husband Mark Darcy. With the support of her friends, she ventures back into the world of dating, and meets younger man Roxster (Leo Woodall) as well as teacher Mr Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The film series spawned from Helen Fielding's hit novel 'Bridget Jones' Diary,' which was published in 1996. Three more books followed, and a series of film adaptations - 'Bridget Jones' Diary' (2001), 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' (2004), and 'Bridget Jones' Baby' (2016). 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' began its global cinematic roll out on Feb. 12. It was released in the United Kingdom on Feb, 13.

00:00Oh, I'm very excited. I'm going with my mum because I saw the initial films with her as
00:25well, so I'm really excited about seeing it with her. And it's just been a long time coming
00:30for the next one.
00:31In life, there are memories that will never leave us.
00:36I like you very much, just as you are.
00:40But sometimes, those memories are suddenly all we're left with.
00:51I just think she brings that warmth to life, generally, to relationships, and makes fun
01:09of life, which is what it should be, really. But a lovely, happy ending.
01:13Yeah, I think her character tells you that it's okay to be messy and to not know what
01:19you're doing, and to walk into things wholeheartedly, even though it might be a complete mess.
01:26And I think that's a message that people need to hear sometimes, and yeah, it just makes
01:31you feel good after watching the movie.
01:33Ah, Mrs. Darcy?
01:35Mr. Wallacher?
01:36Why is your granny wearing pyjamas?
01:39Bridget, you're a widow with two wonderful children. My advice to you is put your own
01:44oxygen mask on first. You just have to get laid.
01:49I'm a huge Self Confess Bridget Jones fan.
02:19I've been a huge fan of Bridget since I was around 12, 13 years old, when I probably shouldn't
02:26have been watching the first film, but I was. And I just found her relatability, her ability
02:32to not take herself too seriously, her drive, and her friendship group around her just all
02:42felt really comforting and felt like something that I could achieve and almost aim for.
03:01I think, especially for kind of younger generations and Generation Z, the last kind of 10 years
03:08has been such a movement towards perfectionism and, you know, getting up at 6am and going
03:15to your Pilates class and making sure you're eating your avocado on toast and then making
03:20sure you've got your green juice and then, you know, doing your meditation. And social
03:26media's only amplified that, the lives that people project onto us that's so perfect a
03:31lot of the time. And Bridget is just absolutely not that.
03:35Everything all right, Mrs Darcy?
03:38Yep, super. Just climbing a tree.
03:42I can see that. Having fun?
03:44Yes, yes, really fun.
03:49You sure you don't need a hand?
03:51No, no. As Einstein said, what goes up must come down.
03:57Newton.
03:58Yes, Newton.
04:05So, hiding within this lovely archway is an area called Middle Temple. So, the temple
04:16area itself is split into four sections. Middle Temple, Inner Temple, Grayson and Lincolnson.
04:25Customers will flock from all areas of the globe. They will come not just from Britain
04:29but France, Germany, Italy, all areas of Europe but also the States, Canada, New Zealand,
04:35Australia. And everyone is included. You've got the young ones, let's say the early 20s
04:40who have sort of been brought up with it and then you've got, let's say, women later on
04:44into their 40s and 50s and even 60s who remember Bridget Jones from the books.
04:49We can all relate to Bridget in some way ourselves. Whether it is our love life, our
05:03career not being quite where we want it to be, not being as smart as other people deem
05:08us or conceive us to be. Maybe it's our relationship with our parents or relationship with a boss
05:14or maybe just because we can't quite get into those genes like we used to be able to.
05:20The cushion can't be more than 40 centimetres from the floor for Ricky. Did you have sex last night?
05:30Yes, I did. Okay, I did. I had a full night of utterly mind-blowing sex with the tree-rescuing
05:39rubbish expert Adonis who might be slightly younger probably and it was amazing!
05:47Okay, so what?
05:53Helen took what used to be the comedic side relief character and made her the main character
06:00and Bridget, she shows that flawed funny women are really far more interesting than those
06:07pious morally upstanding characters and they're more enduring and they're more fun.
06:17On the left! On the left!
06:24She is just one of those characters that will get, you know, maybe forgotten about for a
06:30little bit then picked up again by, you know, every generation or so. Because she is, she's
06:36like a Jo, she's like an Elizabeth, she's like, you know, one of those just enduring
06:41heroines who captures society at the time, but somehow has a timeless quality.
06:48Can you survive? I think so.
06:50It's not enough to survive, you've got to live.
06:53Was that the Delo love, huh?
06:55Just Harry Styles, I think.
07:05Now that is what I call a rebrand.
07:08Did you have sex?
07:09Did you have sex?
07:10Did you have sex last night?
07:11Yes, I did. I had a full night of utterly mind-blowing sex and it was amazing!
07:24Bridget Jones, it's time to live.
07:40It's time to live.
