00:00In the midst of the rising African swine fever in some parts of the country,
00:03let's find out the effect of this on the supply and sale of pork.
00:07We will talk to Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines National Chairman
00:11and AGA Party List Representative, Nicanor Briones.
00:14Good morning and welcome to Balitang Hali.
00:17Good morning, Raffy and Connie. Good morning to all of our viewers.
00:22In your monitoring, how is the price and supply of pork to the families here in Metro Manila?
00:29As of now, due to the effect of ASF, here in the province of Batangas and nearby provinces,
00:37our farm gate price dropped from P220 to P170 per kilo live.
00:50That means that the price of pork in the market should be P290-P290.300
01:02and that in Liempo should be P330-P350.
01:06But the price in Metro Manila is higher, so NEDA should check that.
01:14They should put a suggested retail price so that the families will know.
01:21The vaccines will arrive soon. If this is effective, what month can we feel the effect of this?
01:29This will arrive on Sunday, so it will be vaccinated next week.
01:33But the number is very small, only 10,000 doses.
01:38Even if there are 600,000 doses, which is said to have a fund, it's small, only 10 percent, the backyard will be vaccinated.
01:49So the effect on our pork is small and it's not that big.
01:58It needs to have a fund, a rollout to approve the commercial use, and to fund P3.6 billion for the vaccination of backyard racers.
02:13The million raised by backyard racers.
02:18So until the bulk of the vaccine arrives, will the price of pork increase? What should our consumers expect?
02:26Because there are 22 provinces, 11 regions, 64 towns and 250 barangays,
02:36so of course, the supply of pork will decrease and the bear, bear months will arrive, so the demand will be stronger.
02:45So we expect that by October, the price of pork will increase until the holidays.
02:52What can the government do to improve this?
02:56It's simple. We've been saying this for a long time.
02:59First, Secretary Kiko Laurel said it's good that they will pay P4,000 for piglet, P8,000 for big pork and P12,000 for enayin bulugan.
03:10You should do that right away. As long as the pork is fresh, you should pay.
03:17But the fund is small, P150 million.
03:20We need to budget at least 5 percent of the population, because 22 percent of the population died in the ASF.
03:30Even if it's 5 percent, to surrender the pork that the ASF is hitting, that's P5 billion.
03:37That's why I'm asking for the government to declare a national state of calamity so that the President's Calamity Fund and all LGUs can use it.
03:49You mentioned that the bear months will arrive, so you still expect that the price of pork will increase until December and the supply will still be limited?
04:00That's for sure. That's for sure. By December, the price of pork will increase to P400, the price of pork will increase to P1,000 because the supply is small and the demand is big.
04:16The people who want to import pork cannot exchange it because it's better if it's fresh and it's safe.
04:24Let's not believe that imported pork is safe. Do you know where the ASF came from? From imported pork.
04:33We're the only country that doesn't have a laboratory test for agricultural commodities.
04:43There's no first border inspection facilities. That's why we're getting different diseases from animals, plants, and vegetables.
04:51That's what's happening.
04:52That's what needs to be improved. In the meantime, let's look for an alternative until the price and supply of pork stabilizes.
04:59Thank you very much for the time you shared in Balitang Hali.
05:02Thank you very much, Robby. Thank you very much. Long live to you.
