00:42A Filipino fisherman is missing after his boat collided with a still-unidentified ship
00:47in the waters of Burrias Island in Masbate.
00:50The Philippine Coast Guard says Thursday, August 15, 23-year-old Roldan Marientes and
00:54his older brother Roland were aboard their motorized fishing boat when the collision
00:58happened at around 2 a.m. on August 10.
01:01A commercial vessel found and rescued Roland at around 11 a.m. the same day, but Roldan
01:06remains missing.
01:07The Coast Guard says it is coordinating with other fishers in nearby villages in its search
01:11for Roldan.
01:12No details about the colliding ship are available as of this reporting.
01:18A Social Weather Station survey says the net satisfaction ratings of the Senate and the
01:22House of Representatives suffered a slight dip in June 2024.
01:26The survey finds 66 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with the Senate's performance, while
01:3116 percent are dissatisfied with a net satisfaction rating of plus 50.
01:36This is five points lower than its net rating of plus 55 in March.
01:41Satisfaction with the Senate's performance was highest in Metro Manila at 68 percent,
01:45followed by the rest of Luzon and Mindanao at 67 percent, and Visayas at 64 percent.
01:50The satisfaction in the Senate was most notable in Luzon, excluding Metro Manila, where it
01:55increased to 16 percent from 8 percent in March.
01:58The survey results also show 60 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with the performance
02:03of the House, while 18 percent are dissatisfied for a plus 41 net satisfaction rating.
02:08This is four points lower than its plus 45 net satisfaction rating in March.
02:15The World Health Organization declares an mpox or monkeypox outbreak for the second
02:19time in two years, this following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring
02:24countries.
02:25WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declares the epidemic a public health emergency
02:31of international concern, or HEIC.
02:34HEIC status is WHO's highest level of alert and aims to accelerate research, funding,
02:40and international public health measures and cooperation to contain the disease.
02:45Mpox can spread through close contact.
02:47It causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions on the body.
02:51It is usually mild but can be fatal in rare cases.
02:54The Congo outbreak began with the spread of an endemic strain known as clade 1, but a
02:59new variant, clade 1b, appears to spread more easily through routine close contact, including
03:04sexual contact.
03:05Vaccines and behavior change help stop the spread when a different strain of mpox spread
03:09globally.
03:12Jeff Jacinto, known as content creator Iliad, is appealing to actor Mon Confiado to withdraw
03:17his cyber-libel complaint.
03:19Confiado filed a complaint against Jacinto over a copypasta post.
03:24In it, Jacinto described Confiado as acting rude in a fictitious grocery scenario.
03:28Jacinto says he wrote Confiado an online message asking him to discourage people from harassing
03:33him over the incident.
03:35Jacinto says the Iliad page is satirical and posts memes and humorous comments about pop
03:40culture.
03:41He says the post in question was his attempt to apply 4chan humor to Filipino pop culture.
03:46Before filing the complaint, Confiado had asked Jacinto to take down the post, but Iliad
03:50merely added a disclaimer note, after which the actor took legal action.
03:55Jacinto now says it was a big mistake that he didn't take down the post when Confiado
03:59asked him to.
04:02A poignant moment in the homecoming of Olympic double gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
