Transcript
00:00Good morning from Skegness. Now we've moved on to Skegness Academy. It is results day
00:10and a big day for vocational courses at the Academy. How have your students done?
00:17Yeah, we've been really, really pleased with our students this year. We've had an increase
00:21in our vocational results and yeah, we're excited for students to come in and start
00:25opening their results and looking at what uni places they're going to get to. So I think
00:28we've got Leila with us that's going to open her results with you.
00:31Yes, yes. So we'll, she's been really, really brave and opening them live. So let's see
00:41how she's done.
00:42I've got an M in Health and Social and an MM in Child Care.
00:45That's fantastic Leila, well done.
00:48So what are you hoping to do with those results? What are your plans?
00:51I'm going to uni, VGU and I've also got a job as teacher's assistant to do alongside.
00:57Do you know what you want to do ultimately?
01:00I don't know. I think I'm going to try and get my child care level up and then I'll see
01:04from there what I want to do.
01:05Yeah, I mean it's a lot to take in, isn't it, on results day?
01:09Yeah.
01:10So how were the courses? How have you found it all?
01:12They were really good and all the teachers were really helpful and always helped me when
01:15I needed them.
01:16Yeah, so are you going to be celebrating today?
01:18Yeah.
01:19Yeah, I mean it's always good to come to Skegness Academy because you have the ice
01:23cream van outside, don't you? It's always a bonus, always worth working hard, isn't
01:29it?
01:30Yeah.
01:31So congratulations anyway on your results and every success in the future.
01:37Thank you for speaking to us. Now if I just come back to you. I mean it's been a year
01:46of change at Skegness Academy, hasn't it?
01:50Yeah, we've had a new principal for a year, so Mr Gissendorf has come in and he's worked
01:54absolute wonders. We've got so many opportunities for our students now, putting them on that
01:58path to a successful and fulfilling life. So our students have so many chances to be
02:03successful. We have a fantastic body of staff and yeah, we're on the up and everything
02:08is going in the right direction for us. So it's going to be a fantastic year next year
02:12as we continue to move forward, definitely.
02:14And the work that you do in the community as well, because it was just a few weeks ago
02:20that we came in to see all the amazing poppies you've been making for the Remembrance Display
02:26around the clock tower.
02:28Yeah, and I think that's been going on in earnest over the summer holidays. I think
02:32people are still making poppies. I know that my mum sat on a sunbed over the summer knitting
02:36poppies for us as well. So yeah, I think we do so much in the community. We do lots with
02:42our vulnerable students and our families that just need that little bit of extra support.
02:47So yeah, we are really proud of what we do within the community, definitely.
02:50Yeah. So, I mean, today has mainly been about your vocational courses, but overall, are
02:57you pleased with how all the students have done?
02:59Yeah, we're so exceptionally pleased with our students. They've worked really, really
03:03hard over the last two years. Every single one of our students has got the uni place
03:07that they applied for. So we've got every single student getting their first place at
03:10uni choice, and some of them are going on to apprenticeships and other forms of employment.
03:16So yeah, really pleased with how the students have done with the exceptional hard work from
03:19the staff that we have at the academy.
03:21Okay, well there's lots of students probably waiting to have a chat with you out there,
03:25so I'll let you get on. So thank you for talking to us this morning.
03:30And next week, we'll be back for the GCSEs.
03:32Yes, you will. I'll see you then.
03:33See you then. Thank you.
