00:00:0018 ordinary Australians are about to leave their lives behind and go on the run as fugitives.
00:00:30Phones and laptops.
00:00:32Being on the run, I know that it's a game we can win together.
00:00:37Thumbs down, please.
00:00:38We've been studying espionage and how to blend in. I've always thought I'm a little bit like Jason Bourne.
00:00:44I'll sit in a, you know, cafe or something. I've already looked where the exit doors are.
00:00:48We both think
00:00:50strategically. We've got a scape route. We have a good comms plan to really help us evade the hunters.
00:00:56We'll always be on the lookout.
00:00:58So... Paranoia will be real. Paranoia will be real.
00:01:02Phones and laptops.
00:01:04He's a rally driver and I'm his co-driver.
00:01:07We're ultra competitive. You flat out or you die trying. I'm sure the hunters are a good team.
00:01:13They've got a lot of experience, but our team shouldn't be underestimated either.
00:01:18So good luck to you.
00:01:20Over here. I'm a competitive bodybuilder. I was a muay thai fighter for a period of my life and
00:01:27we've dramatically changed how we train.
00:01:32We want to be fitter than the hunters. Yeah.
00:01:35Face me. Arms up. We're training for the sole purpose of being more athletic.
00:01:40They're not gonna catch us.
00:01:42I want bragging rights.
00:01:44Over here.
00:01:46Shelly and I are cousins and
00:01:48she's very daring and I'm as daring as well. You're a daringer. Daringer? That's not a word. Oh, sorry. Okay.
00:01:54Well, you're more daring. Yeah, yeah.
00:01:56Face of me. Arms up.
00:01:58They call us sometimes boomers, which is better than indocs. I thought you were going to say cougars. No, boomers.
00:02:03Scan. We can keep up with the young ones. Face of me.
00:02:07But we're going to be seen as the low-hanging fruit. So I want to prove that we're not. Okay.
00:02:13But what these nine fugitive pairs don't know is
00:02:18before they go on the run.
00:02:20Go.
00:02:22They must first steal their prize money.
00:02:27In the biggest twist
00:02:30in hunted history. Holy crap.
00:02:33One million dollars is being held at the savings bank of Ballarat.
00:02:39Oh my god. A million dollars. Okay.
00:02:46Nux, here we go.
00:02:49Okay.
00:02:50Damn it. As a group, you must break into the bank and steal the money.
00:02:54If you can evade capture from the hunters for the next 20 days, the money is yours to keep.
00:03:02Only one of you will take part in the robbery.
00:03:05Your teammate will plan your getaway. The robbery will take place in 12 hours. Okay. Decide your roles.
00:03:12Good luck. I think it's me for the robbery. I think logistics wise getaway is probably me. Yeah, let's do it. Done.
00:03:21I'll plan it and then you're gonna rob the bank. I'm gonna rob the bank. Yeah.
00:03:27Okay, we're gonna have to decide. Yeah, so what do you think? You're the robbery robber and I'm the planner. Okay. Yeah, let's do it.
00:03:35With only 12 hours until the robbery, the nine fugitive pairs must now split.
00:03:42Thanks, man. We're gonna get a million dollars.
00:03:44The planners are headed to a predetermined getaway point one and a half hours south in the port city of Geelong.
00:03:53For the robbers remaining on the outskirts of Ballarat,
00:03:58plans to execute the heist have been carefully prepared by an expert.
00:04:04My name is Ken Ashworth. I'm a retired detective inspector from Victoria Police.
00:04:09I served for 44 years and in my time at the armed robbery squad, I would have locked up in excess of 20 armed robbers.
00:04:16Whilst this robbery has been constructed, I've provided enough obstacles so it represents real-life activity.
00:04:23The robbers will have to break in, be confronted with walls and bars, not be detected, get their cash and get away.
00:04:32Generally bank robberies are over and done with in about two to three minutes.
00:04:36So time is of the essence because they know no matter how well they plan it, an alarm will be going off somewhere.
00:04:45Nervous? Yeah. Yeah.
00:04:49This is a group of ordinary people who don't go around robbing banks.
00:04:55They may panic. That's when mistakes will be made. Is everyone confident?
00:05:01I'm a little bit nervous.
00:05:03So I would be very surprised if everybody made it out.
00:05:08One way or the other this is happening, right?
00:05:11We got this. All right. Bank.
00:05:18Right?
00:05:21So has anyone ever used wire cutters?
00:05:28Ball cutters?
00:05:34Who's good at what? What do we have?
00:05:37My name is Chelsea, and I actually work at a bank, so I'm like...
00:05:40Yay! Chelsea!
00:05:42Inside info! I love that!
00:05:45And my name is Joe. I'm a comedian, which means I'm good at spending money.
00:05:49Yay!
00:05:52What are we gonna do? As you can see, we need three people to break in into this bank for your area.
00:06:00So what we need is using an angle grinder to cut through metal bars.
00:06:04We need to smash the glass window with a crowbar.
00:06:07I'm not sure if it's super useful, but I like smashing stuff.
00:06:11I want to use the crowbar because I'm probably the strongest person in the group.
00:06:15What do you bench press? I can bench 140.
00:06:18Perfect!
00:06:21I'm happy to help with this. So I think we go for the tellers first.
00:06:25Yep. And then tackle the cabinet.
00:06:27Yeah, I agree.
00:06:29Inside the cabinet, we need to find the key to get into the key lock safe.
00:06:34So whilst I haven't cracked a safe myself, my dad was a professional safe cracker for 20 years.
00:06:39I would be happy to give it a shot to try and see what I can do.
00:06:43Yeah.
00:06:45My dad was Barry Good, and he's most well known for his safe cracking attempts across multiple states in Australia.
00:06:52So he's lived a life, and a lot of that has been on the run.
00:06:55So identify the safe, if it's got any weaknesses.
00:06:59Mm-hmm.
00:07:00As a fugitive, it actually makes the whole experience a lot more meaningful knowing that dad was on the run.
00:07:06I think it will help me understand more of where he came from.
00:07:09My dad did end up getting caught and spent many years incarcerated,
00:07:14but I'm hoping that I can actually get away with it.
00:07:17With a million dollars on the line, I'll run fast.
00:07:19We've got Deb, Lee and Chelsea. You guys got it covered.
00:07:22Three amigos, let's go.
00:07:24While you guys are breaking into the bank foyer, we'll be focusing on the strong room.
00:07:29This will be a little bit tougher, right?
00:07:32In the strong room, we've got the safety deposit boxes.
00:07:36Use the wire cutters to cut a hole through the fence and climb onto the balcony.
00:07:40And then break through the fortified wall.
00:07:42Well, I think I'll be good with the wire cutters as a hairdresser.
00:07:46I'm used to cutting hair, so it can't be that hard.
00:07:48However you want to do a hole.
00:07:50Probably go around.
00:07:52Alright.
00:07:53I love being in control.
00:07:55I've got to disable their camera.
00:07:57We've got the spray, but I'm not a control freak to the extent.
00:08:01Okay, so one, two, three, four.
00:08:03And you. And me.
00:08:04You're it. Five. I'll be the five.
00:08:06I worked for a global IT company.
00:08:09We worked with ASIO and CIA.
00:08:12I do know what the hunters are capable of,
00:08:15so it's a great opportunity to be the pseudo James Bond that you never were or never was.
00:08:20Driver stays with the van, acts as a lookout, right?
00:08:23Ah, cool.
00:08:25I reckon I'd be the best getaway driver, because that's what I do for a living.
00:08:28I drive rally cars.
00:08:30There won't be a car that we can't outrun.
00:08:32I'm not a bad person. I'm never going to be a criminal.
00:08:35But it's high pressure, high stakes.
00:08:37And rallying is very similar.
00:08:39There's no one going to catch us.
00:08:41From a driver's point of view, I adapt on every corner.
00:08:45That whole mindset is going to be what gets us over the line.
00:08:49Hopefully.
00:08:51Opportunity of a lifetime.
00:08:53We get to steal a million dollars.
00:08:55Yes!
00:08:59That's life-changing.
00:09:01That's my wedding and a house.
00:09:03I want to travel Europe and I want to do it properly,
00:09:06so I think this would be amazing for me.
00:09:08We're eager.
00:09:10This is a million bucks we're talking about.
00:09:12We're going to make it happen.
00:09:14What if anyone really drops the ball?
00:09:20Well, we won't get any money.
00:09:22If one person drops the ball, we're getting nothing.
00:09:25The hunters are going to have this place cornered straight up.
00:09:28We're going to have to get in and get out pretty quick.
00:09:31We should be in and out half an hour.
00:09:34No stuffing it up.
00:09:36Yeah.
00:09:40Let's check out what we have here to use for our job.
00:09:43This is what we need.
00:09:45You go that one.
00:09:47This newly formed gang of thieves
00:09:49will split whatever prize money they steal from the bank evenly
00:09:54to then carry on the run with their team-mates.
00:09:58I've got to find the holes.
00:10:02So if they take nothing,
00:10:04they'll all leave this game empty-handed.
00:10:08Yeah, blue's my colour.
00:10:12I'm a bartender, a big social butterfly,
00:10:15so show me the money.
00:10:17What do you guys think?
00:10:19Most people would expect me to go on, like, Love Island or Maths
00:10:23or something like that, but no, definitely not.
00:10:26I want to go unhunted.
00:10:30I mean, who doesn't want to be on the run?
00:10:32Running away from the cops.
00:10:34Oh, we can be cat burglars.
00:10:37Yeah.
00:10:41The robbers have been provided with the necessary tools
00:10:44and equipment to complete the job.
00:10:47But they only have limited time to prepare.
00:10:51Everything that I'm feeling right now
00:10:54is exactly what I feel before I do a comedy show.
00:10:59My heart's racing, there's a lot of blood pumping through my body
00:11:03and I'm nervous, I'm anxious.
00:11:06Because knowing that there's a million dollars on the line
00:11:09is very thrilling.
00:11:11It was scary.
00:11:13Do we know what we're doing? No.
00:11:16Time will also be against them once they break into the bank,
00:11:20because an alarm will be triggered
00:11:23and the hunters alerted that the game has begun.
00:11:44TENSE MUSIC
00:11:52While their team-mates wait to be reunited with them in Geelong...
00:11:56Ladies and gentlemen, all the best.
00:11:58..these nine ordinary Australians
00:12:01will attempt to steal $1 million without getting caught.
00:12:06Tools. Check. Check.
00:12:08Step ladder. Check. Check.
00:12:10Jo, you got the spray can?
00:12:12Check.
00:12:13If the fugitives can pull off this heist
00:12:16and outrun the hunters for the next 20 days,
00:12:20they get to keep the cash as their prize money.
00:12:24You guys ready? We're gonna do this.
00:12:26Hope. We hope.
00:12:32But if one gets captured at the bank...
00:12:37..it means for that fugitive bear...
00:12:42..it's game over.
00:12:46Go, guys.
00:12:48Go.
00:12:49Alright, everybody out. Left side, tools.
00:12:51Step ladder, one.
00:12:53On your team.
00:12:55Sledgehammer.
00:13:00We're at the first location, Tony.
00:13:02Excellent.
00:13:04We're gonna grind off these bars, smash the window and then hop in.
00:13:08WHIRRING
00:13:12Alright, Luke, let's go.
00:13:16Ladder up yet, guy?
00:13:24Feeling good, big dog.
00:13:33It's coming along nicely, mate.
00:13:38Holy!
00:13:40Once the teller team break the window,
00:13:43the silent alarm will be triggered,
00:13:46alerting the hunters to their location
00:13:49and that it's game on.
00:13:52You guys in?
00:13:54Yep. We're about to smash the window.
00:13:56Copy that. Let me know.
00:13:58Who's ready?
00:14:08WHIRRING
00:14:10The hunters have been expecting the game to commence
00:14:13once nine fugitive pairs are released somewhere near Melbourne.
00:14:18Hunter headquarters.
00:14:20They're only now finding out there's been a bank robbery
00:14:24and it's game on in Ballarat.
00:14:27You're joking.
00:14:31The hunters' real-life skills as former police,
00:14:35British intelligence,
00:14:37military personnel
00:14:39and cyber experts
00:14:41will be put to the test.
00:14:43At the helm is the new chief,
00:14:46Rhys Dewar.
00:14:49Hunter headquarters, listen in.
00:14:51Yes, Chief.
00:14:52There is a robbery in progress at the savings bank at Ballarat.
00:14:57The silent alarm has been tripped.
00:15:00The suspects are still inside the bank.
00:15:03Team, this just got real.
00:15:05We cannot let bank robbers get away.
00:15:08Cyber team, I need CCTV from inside the bank
00:15:11and anything on the outside.
00:15:13Yes, Chief.
00:15:15Stepping up from deputy on the last hunt,
00:15:18Rhys is no stranger to leading large-scale tactical operations.
00:15:23How much money was in that bank?
00:15:25He served 20 years with the Australian Defence Force
00:15:29and commanded special forces teams in Afghanistan and Iraq.
00:15:34Working in Special Operations Command Australia,
00:15:37I've hunted terrorists
00:15:38and I learnt resilience and mental toughness.
00:15:42I'm going to bring the same level of intensity to the hunt.
00:15:46OK, everybody, this next 24 hours is going to be absolutely crucial.
00:15:50Returning to the role of deputy is former MI6 sniper Ben Owen.
00:15:56Let's dig into their digital footprints,
00:15:58let's find out who these people are,
00:16:00why they're together, why they're on the run
00:16:02and, crucially, why they think they can beat us.
00:16:04Let's get to it, guys.
00:16:06And HQ's newest recruit is intelligence lead Carla Kozlovich.
00:16:12CC, let's work up a suspect list.
00:16:15Yes, Chief.
00:16:16With a security operations background
00:16:18and over 16 years in law enforcement,
00:16:21CC brings experience in intel gathering and interrogation.
00:16:27This is a good old-fashioned cat-and-mouse chase
00:16:29and there is a fine line between the hunter and the hunted.
00:16:32Yep.
00:16:33My reputation is on the line here.
00:16:35I am passionate and driven
00:16:37and I'm going to use that passion to hunt you down.
00:16:40All call signs, this is the Chief.
00:16:43This is not a drill.
00:16:45There is a robbery in progress at the savings bank of Balarat.
00:16:49I need you to deploy to this location directly.
00:16:52HQ, Alpha, good copy.
00:16:54Delta, copy.
00:16:56Scattered around Victoria are four teams of expert ground hunters.
00:17:02Each is in a race against time to reach the bank in Balarat.
00:17:08Your headquarters, this is Charlie.
00:17:10We are 20 minutes from that bank, 20 minutes.
00:17:14Charlie, you are the closest call sign.
00:17:16Move now.
00:17:21Let's go. Let's go.
00:17:24Having already been on site for 15 minutes,
00:17:28the wannabe robbers now have less than 20 minutes
00:17:31before Team Charlie arrive to stop them from stealing the million dollars.
00:17:36Let's go.
00:17:37All right, let's go, guys.
00:17:39Jimmy and Martin.
00:17:41Yep, grab the hammer, just smash it.
00:17:44The teller crew have broken in and are already claiming the foyer cash.
00:17:49All right, grab it all, guys. Don't leave anything.
00:17:52We need to look for the key.
00:17:56Everybody feeling OK?
00:17:58Yeah, it's just like, did you get this hole big enough?
00:18:02Whilst the robbers trying to access the strong room
00:18:05at the rear of the bank have hit a snag.
00:18:08Do you need to go a bit higher?
00:18:10Sir, do you reckon cut, start going around there?
00:18:12Cut that across to your left, where you are now.
00:18:14Cut across here? Yeah, get rid of it.
00:18:16I don't understand what you're saying.
00:18:17Cut that across.
00:18:18Is that where we want to go through? Yes.
00:18:20But then that's going to be too small, though.
00:18:23God, come on, come on.
00:18:27Keep going, Luke, faster.
00:18:29All right. All right, I'm going in.
00:18:31With the balcony breached...
00:18:33I'm going up.
00:18:34..the five-person crew must cut through steel bars
00:18:38and force their way through a heavily fortified wall.
00:18:42Time to get away.
00:18:44People are starting to wake up and things are starting to happen.
00:18:47Headquarters, this is Charlie.
00:18:4915 minutes, 15 minutes out.
00:18:53All right, we're all in and we're cutting through the bars.
00:18:56Four bars off.
00:18:58Good job, guys.
00:19:01Now, drill!
00:19:03Got to go quicker.
00:19:04We've got to get out of here. Man, I'm freaking out out here.
00:19:12All right, we're coming through the wall quite quickly.
00:19:18All right, the holes are all done.
00:19:21We're about to start chiselling through.
00:19:28We're just going to go straight to the front door
00:19:30and just go straight in.
00:19:32All right, we're just about in.
00:19:35What's going on?
00:19:37Sun's coming up. We've got to get out of here.
00:19:39Let's go, guys. Watch your head.
00:19:41Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
00:19:44Once they penetrate the strong room cage...
00:19:47Clear. Camera disabled.
00:19:49Camera's off. Let's go.
00:19:51..which guards the safety deposit boxes...
00:19:54Start cutting, Joe.
00:19:57..a second alarm will be triggered
00:19:59and the hunters informed of their progress.
00:20:06That's it. All right. Go, go!
00:20:09Cameras, go!
00:20:12Guys, watch your back. The hunters are coming.
00:20:15All right, alarm!
00:20:19Hurry up, guys. What's going on?
00:20:21The alarms have gone off. The alarms have gone off.
00:20:27Charlie, the suspects are still in the bank.
00:20:30Send ETO your location, over.
00:20:32Headquarters, this is Charlie.
00:20:34We are five minutes out. Five minutes.
00:20:36I need you to roll in hot.
00:20:38Let's get a capture.
00:20:40Let's go!
00:20:42Let's go. Get the money out.
00:20:45Ten bags each. Let's go.
00:20:50John's getting away, guys.
00:20:52With just over $300,000 in the teller area...
00:20:57So now we need to find the key.
00:20:59..the robbers have bagged most of the cash...
00:21:02We're just trying to find the safe key.
00:21:05..but they still need to access
00:21:07the $73,000 locked in the safe.
00:21:11It might be on the safe. It might be in the safe.
00:21:19Let's go!
00:21:22There's a crowbar.
00:21:24Don't leave anything behind.
00:21:26Can you pick them up? No, I can't pick a lock.
00:21:30Better find this key, guys.
00:21:32We're walking out with a lot less money.
00:21:35No hammers. Use the crowbar. Use the crowbar.
00:21:39If we don't find this key, we're out.
00:21:51The alarm's gone off. The alarm's gone off.
00:21:54Hurry up, guys. What's going on?
00:21:56The alarm has gone off. The alarm's just gone off.
00:21:59In Ballarat, nine of the 18 fugitives
00:22:03are attempting to steal $1 million from a bank.
00:22:07OK, we've got the cash and the teller.
00:22:09We're just trying to find the safe key.
00:22:11As the hunters close in...
00:22:14We are five minutes out. Five minutes.
00:22:16I need you to roll in hot.
00:22:18Let's get a catch-up.
00:22:19Go, go, go, go, go!
00:22:21..in the strong room, there's $700,000 still up for grabs.
00:22:26What's happening?
00:22:28Go, go, go. I'll show you the lock.
00:22:30Yeah.
00:22:31All right, you guys, get the money out.
00:22:33Whilst in the teller area...
00:22:35It might be on the safe, somewhere in the safe.
00:22:38..the safe contains just over $70,000
00:22:42and is proving difficult to access.
00:22:45Can you pick a lock? No, I can't pick a lock.
00:22:47If we don't find this key, guys,
00:22:49we're walking out with a lot less money.
00:22:51I'll grab the cash and put it up here.
00:22:53Put it straight in the bag. Straight in the bag.
00:22:55Don't leave anything behind.
00:22:57Ten bags each. Let's go. Let's go.
00:23:01Stakes are high.
00:23:03And we're not talking rump steak.
00:23:05For former armed robbery squad investigator Graham Simfendorfer...
00:23:10There's some skin in the game now.
00:23:12..this game of hunted is personal.
00:23:15I've spent many years chasing armed robbers,
00:23:17and in this case, the robbery at the bank
00:23:19is going to be right in my wheelhouse.
00:23:21Watch out. All right, double check.
00:23:23Coming through. Yeah, this is completely clear.
00:23:25The game has shifted levels.
00:23:26We're going to be upping the ante,
00:23:28and there will be no strategy that is off the table.
00:23:30We will get dirty.
00:23:31Helm. Use the crowbar. Use the crowbar.
00:23:34In my time in the armed robbery areas of Victoria Police,
00:23:37the crimes that have been committed there
00:23:39have some sort of planning that's attached to them.
00:23:42That's similar to the hunt.
00:23:44So we need to stay ahead of what the fugitives are thinking
00:23:48and what their plan may be.
00:23:50No hammers. Crowbar.
00:23:52I'll be looking at each one of these fugitives
00:23:54as if they are an armed robber on the run.
00:23:56All right, well, these are all clear.
00:23:58We're not going easy on these fugitives whatsoever.
00:24:00We are the hunters, and we are very good at what we do,
00:24:03so they need to get very prepared for being our prey.
00:24:06Crime should not pay.
00:24:07Have you found the key yet, guys? What's going on?
00:24:09Struggling to find the key.
00:24:11We're trying a hammer approach.
00:24:13There's no way.
00:24:14Give it to me. I'll put it there.
00:24:16I'll lose the weight for you.
00:24:17All right, we've got one, two.
00:24:20In the strong room, the robbers have bagged most of the cash.
00:24:24Seven, eight, nine, one more in this bag.
00:24:27Whatever cash they secure
00:24:29will be their prize money to take on the run.
00:24:32Is that all the money?
00:24:33Clear. Go, go, go, go, go, go.
00:24:36OK.
00:24:37Fuck, I can't do this up.
00:24:39Headquarters, this is Charlie.
00:24:41We are three minutes out. Three minutes.
00:24:43Right-o, team. Charlie is three minutes out.
00:24:46Let's go, Charlie.
00:24:47Red-handed, red-handed.
00:24:48Watch your fingers.
00:24:49Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
00:24:52Go, go, go, go.
00:24:54Go in, quick, jump in.
00:24:55One will be holding in a getaway vehicle, chief, guarantee it.
00:24:58Come on, guys, how are we going with that key?
00:25:00No, we're struggling to find it.
00:25:02Well, the alarm's been going off for a while.
00:25:04We don't have much time.
00:25:06Sorry, guys, we've got to go.
00:25:08Let's go.
00:25:09Let's go.
00:25:10Come on, cutters.
00:25:12Good job, good job.
00:25:13Go, go, go.
00:25:17No, no.
00:25:21Hurry up.
00:25:26Get in, get in, get in.
00:25:28Go, go, go, go.
00:25:30Heels up, guys, heels up.
00:25:32Jump, jump, jump, jump, jump.
00:25:38Big success.
00:25:39That was an adrenaline rush.
00:25:42Out of a possible $1 million,
00:25:45the fugitives have escaped with $927,000.
00:25:56Roger, that's us inside the bank.
00:25:58No eyes on at this stage.
00:26:02The hunters have no idea where the fugitives are headed next.
00:26:08But they're yet to access the security camera footage of the robbery.
00:26:13There's no sign of them at all.
00:26:16Chief, we've requested cameras outside the bank to get any movement
00:26:19so we can further patch that together outside.
00:26:21Yeah, Roger.
00:26:22The role as a deputy when hunting fugitives
00:26:24is to make sure that we do not miss a trick.
00:26:26Every piece of intelligence that comes into this room,
00:26:29I analyse and I disseminate and get the hunter force acting.
00:26:32Ben, we've got that CCTV footage from outside the bank
00:26:35putting up on the big screen now. Awesome, thank you, Jane.
00:26:39Oh, right, van, van, van. What is that?
00:26:41Red Joe. Red Joe. We need Red Joe.
00:26:43Charlie, there's a white van.
00:26:45Right, let's get the car, Kim.
00:26:48Toyota HiAce. Licence plate number. Prepare to copy.
00:26:51The first 24 hours of this hunt is absolutely critical
00:26:54to get an idea of directions of travel for the fugitives
00:26:57to understand their background, their motivations.
00:27:00These individuals have stolen money and they're on the run with it.
00:27:04And I can tell you now,
00:27:06this is the most motivated this hunter team has ever been.
00:27:09I need to get that chopper up shortly.
00:27:11Can we get the ANPR in straightaway
00:27:13till we get the ANPR out of Ballarat?
00:27:15I'll get you exact locations, but outbound on the M8?
00:27:18Yep. Outbound on the A300? Yep.
00:27:21ANPR is Automatic Number Plate Recognition
00:27:23for any vehicle that passes through a gantry on a freeway
00:27:26or a road that collects the data for number plate.
00:27:29That will tell us the direction of travel the van is going.
00:27:32We're going to put a ring around,
00:27:35Yep. Ballarat? Copy that.
00:27:40The getaway van is now travelling 1.5 hours south
00:27:44to the marina in the port city of Geelong.
00:27:49There, the nine fugitives will rendezvous with their team-mates
00:27:54who are spread out along escape routes
00:27:57they've pre-planned with their partners.
00:28:00It's all a waiting game at this point.
00:28:02I'm here for it.
00:28:06Chief, I've worked up a list of suspects for you.
00:28:09Right, OCC, let's get them on the backboard.
00:28:11Yes, Chief. Team, backboard.
00:28:13Well done. Yeah, Chief.
00:28:15The only information provided to HQ
00:28:18are the names, ages and hometowns of the fugitive pairs.
00:28:23Right, listen up, hunters.
00:28:25Our first suspects, Romany Vergara,
00:28:2825, from Adelaide Hills in South Australia.
00:28:31She is with suspect Chelsea Hancock, 26,
00:28:35from Devonport in Tasmania.
00:28:37Both from interstate, both coming to Victoria.
00:28:40What is their motivation and how do they know each other?
00:28:44So I grew up on a cattle farm.
00:28:46I grew up on a vineyard.
00:28:48We've been best friends for almost ten years now.
00:28:51Yeah.
00:28:52We met through ex-boyfriends who are no longer around.
00:28:55They're alive, they're just no longer with us.
00:28:58She matched my energy from the moment I laid eyes on her.
00:29:02Sound like we're a married couple?
00:29:05I think growing up on a farm has definitely made us tough.
00:29:08You're just always thinking about what could go wrong,
00:29:10what to do next. You've got to be resourceful.
00:29:12I think our ability to stay physically fit
00:29:15as well as mentally fit is going to be super key
00:29:18to making sure that we get right through to the end.
00:29:22Jade Heath, 24, from the Gold Coast in Queensland.
00:29:26She is with Taylor Hunt, also 24, from the Gold Coast, Queensland.
00:29:33I was actually quite worried about that mugshot.
00:29:35I'm like, I can pull some pretty hay-going faces
00:29:37and it doesn't get me...
00:29:38I hope they're going to be bangin'.
00:29:40..on the right time, yeah.
00:29:41You always want a hot mugshot, you know?
00:29:43Yeah.
00:29:45Yes, we do get mixed up quite a lot.
00:29:47A lot.
00:29:48A lot, yeah.
00:29:49I feel like we could use that.
00:29:50It's to our advantage to get what we want in certain areas.
00:29:54My heart's pumping.
00:29:55My brain's just thinking of everything right now.
00:29:59I'm trying to remember our route.
00:30:01You know, we just look like two little blonde girls.
00:30:03I have no hope, but we've really studied this.
00:30:06We've prepared.
00:30:07We are definitely counting on being underestimated by the hunters.
00:30:11The train's at 12.30.52.
00:30:18Really should have packed a watch.
00:30:23Steve, our next suspect is Akech Makua Chut.
00:30:27She's 31 from Seddon.
00:30:29She is with Jo White, 38, from Altona in Victoria.
00:30:33What is their relationship?
00:30:35I'm Akech.
00:30:36I'm 21.
00:30:3721!
00:30:4021!
00:30:42God, you must have a terrible face, crew.
00:30:4521.
00:30:46So sorry.
00:30:47Go again.
00:30:48I'm Akech.
00:30:49I'm 31.
00:30:50I'm Jo.
00:30:51I'm a comedian.
00:30:52I had a show called Match Man in COVID
00:30:54where I would get singles on on Instagram Live
00:30:57and I would try to match them.
00:30:59And so Akech was one of the singles.
00:31:01And guess what, guys?
00:31:02Very hard to find her a man.
00:31:04Still single.
00:31:05Still single.
00:31:07I definitely think that hunters will underestimate us
00:31:10because no one takes a comedian seriously.
00:31:12But at the same time, that gives us the chance
00:31:14to really show them what we're made of.
00:31:17So bring it on.
00:31:22Bring me the money!
00:31:26The fugitives have split the $927,000 evenly,
00:31:32giving each team $103,000.
00:31:37Just remember, we're going to carry all this dough.
00:31:40They must carry it at all times.
00:31:43And if they can evade the hunters for the next 20 days
00:31:47and make it to extraction, it's theirs to keep.
00:31:51But first, they need to reach their teammates.
00:31:55We're out of town now, guys.
00:31:56You better keep an eye out
00:31:57because we're sitting ducks out here
00:31:59before we can blend in with the traffic.
00:32:04Chief?
00:32:05Yep?
00:32:06We've had a hit on the mobile ANPR.
00:32:08Right.
00:32:11Alpha, Alpha, this is the Chief.
00:32:15Rabbit, I need you to get over the Ballarat area.
00:32:19Firm heading towards Ballarat.
00:32:21We have identified a white HiAce.
00:32:24License plate?
00:32:25Bravo Echo 9.
00:32:29Yeah, Rabbit, good copy.
00:32:34Chopper, guys.
00:32:35There's a chopper.
00:32:36What?
00:32:37There it is.
00:32:40Left-hand side, potential target.
00:32:44Rabbit to HQ.
00:32:45I have a vehicle matching that description.
00:32:48Live chopper feed on the big screen.
00:32:51That's our vehicle.
00:32:53They're on to us.
00:33:06After robbing the savings bank of Ballarat,
00:33:09nine fugitives are on the run
00:33:12with the stolen $927,000.
00:33:16Standby units, we have the aircraft up
00:33:19and he's currently looking at the vehicle.
00:33:21I can see four fugitives.
00:33:23They're driving the getaway van south
00:33:26to the port city of Geelong,
00:33:28where they have planned to rendezvous with their team-mates.
00:33:32That's positive ID.
00:33:34Anyone identify that person driving that vehicle?
00:33:38Tony Sullins?
00:33:39Never give up, never die.
00:33:41My concern is it's not just the ones in the helicopter.
00:33:44Geelong's the second biggest city in the state,
00:33:47so they say you can have someone there.
00:33:49Yeah.
00:33:50So we could be heading into a bit of a trap here.
00:33:52Confirm that vehicle is travelling east towards Geelong.
00:33:58We got anyone near Geelong?
00:34:04I think keep Bravo tracking into CBD.
00:34:07Chief, Delta can go towards Geelong
00:34:09and Charlie obviously will be conducting investigations there.
00:34:12Delta, one hour, 17.
00:34:16We are looking at this like we've got bank robbers on the streets.
00:34:20For the fugitives to be on the run with close to a million dollars,
00:34:24it's definitely up the ante.
00:34:28This is Rabbit.
00:34:29That vehicle is now approaching the Geelong marina.
00:34:33Can we get live monitoring of Geelong railway station?
00:34:36Yeah.
00:34:37In my view, they are criminals.
00:34:39We're going to not only capture the fugitives,
00:34:41we're going to recover the money.
00:34:43They don't stand a chance.
00:34:56Alright, guys.
00:34:57Yeah, ready.
00:35:03Here we go.
00:35:08Alright, catch up.
00:35:09Fugitives have been released.
00:35:11We have multiple fugitive starboards.
00:35:13Oh, my God.
00:35:14Here we go, here we go.
00:35:16Adrenaline's kicked in.
00:35:20I think I just shit myself.
00:35:23For the next 20 days,
00:35:25the 18 fugitives must stay on the move.
00:35:30We have three pairs travelling east.
00:35:32We have four travelling west.
00:35:34Each team that makes it to the extraction point on day 20
00:35:38will get to keep the $103,000 in their bag.
00:35:43Come on.
00:35:46On the run with each fugitive pair is a camera operator,
00:35:50dressed to blend in
00:35:52and carrying only a small camera to record their every move.
00:35:59Apparently tracking one fugitive heading west along the marina.
00:36:05Rabbit, I need you to stay on that fugitive.
00:36:08Stay on that fugitive.
00:36:09Who is that?
00:36:11Chelsea Hancock.
00:36:13That's Chelsea Hancock, Chief.
00:36:15Chelsea has just become priority one.
00:36:20That fugitive has gone under a tree.
00:36:22That could have been an RV point.
00:36:24Who's that? Right, Marya.
00:36:26That's her partner, Romany.
00:36:28Let's do it.
00:36:30I think going on the run as a fugitive
00:36:32is going to be exactly like working on a farm.
00:36:34You do not stop until all the work's done.
00:36:37Keep going.
00:36:38Rain, hail, or shine.
00:36:39Rain, hail, or shine.
00:36:40Don't drop that.
00:36:41Over 100 green.
00:36:44One blonde hair, one black hair,
00:36:46heading south towards Cunningham Street.
00:36:50Get in here.
00:36:53Okay.
00:36:54Bro, they've gone into a peer speed car park.
00:36:58They're right there.
00:37:02Is there any other way out of there?
00:37:03Doesn't look like it, does it?
00:37:04No, north and south Cunningham.
00:37:05That's the only way.
00:37:09They're right there.
00:37:13I don't know what to do.
00:37:14They're spooked.
00:37:17Hey, gang.
00:37:18Do you mind if...
00:37:19We're fugitives on the run.
00:37:20Do you mind if we borrow your phone to make a call?
00:37:22A quick call?
00:37:24Can you come in here with us?
00:37:25Right, thank you so much.
00:37:27Calling our mate that lives here in Geelong
00:37:32to hopefully come and get us.
00:37:37Hello?
00:37:38Hey, Tom.
00:37:39It's Roman Chelsea.
00:37:40Are you or your mum around free to pick us up from Geelong?
00:37:44Mum probably is.
00:37:45I'm currently at work.
00:37:46Do you mind giving her a call and then calling us back immediately?
00:37:50Yeah, I'd do that.
00:37:51Okay.
00:37:52Delta, we have eyes on two fugitives.
00:37:55They've gone into a car park.
00:37:57Can you give me ETA to that location? Over.
00:38:00HQ, this is Delta. We are 30 minutes out.
00:38:03Roger that.
00:38:05We're changing into nurses' scrubs.
00:38:07Which looks a little bit similar to our getaway suits, but...
00:38:15Hello?
00:38:16So, mum's not coming, but a friend of ours is coming
00:38:20and she's going to meet you.
00:38:21There's a thing called the Apex at Johnson Park.
00:38:23Yep.
00:38:24She should be in either a red MG or a silver Jag.
00:38:27Perfect. Thank you so much.
00:38:29Country girls Romani and Chelsea must traverse three blocks
00:38:34to meet their new getaway driver, Sue.
00:38:37I think we just cruise along the edge of the building.
00:38:39Yeah.
00:38:40Here we go. Here we go.
00:38:43All right, good?
00:38:44Yep.
00:38:47Don't drop that, Cash.
00:38:50Confirmed. I've got eyes on both of those individuals.
00:38:53Yeah, there is right behind us and he's literally falling.
00:38:59Yeah, they're right there. Just keep driving.
00:39:01Those two females are heading south.
00:39:03Heading south from that location.
00:39:05Stay close to the wall. Stay right close to the wall.
00:39:10When do you need to land to refuel?
00:39:12I've got 10 minutes to refuel remaining.
00:39:14He's got 10 minutes until he has to land.
00:39:17Dodo, this is Ops. Can you give AMTA Geelong over?
00:39:21Chief, we're still 15 minutes from Geelong.
00:39:27We're going to lose sight soon.
00:39:43Did you get the money?
00:39:44Yeah, I got it.
00:39:45Yeah, I got it.
00:39:46We've got to go. We've got to go.
00:39:47The nine bank robbers have all reunited with their team-mates...
00:39:52The money.
00:39:53Go, you driver!
00:39:55..each carrying their share of the $1 million prize.
00:39:59Is it good?
00:40:00Over 100,000. We made it.
00:40:03We have to get as far away from here as we possibly can.
00:40:05And while the fugitive pairs begin to spread out in Geelong,
00:40:09country girls Romany and Chelsea are being tailed by the hunters.
00:40:14Wait under this tree over here by the lights.
00:40:16Yeah.
00:40:17As they try to find their getaway driver, Sue.
00:40:20You've got to think about the fact the ground hunters are so close.
00:40:23What did he say? Red MG?
00:40:25Red MG or a silver?
00:40:27A silver.
00:40:28Red MG. There it is.
00:40:29OK, OK.
00:40:30OK? There it is.
00:40:35Can we just get in?
00:40:36Get in.
00:40:39They're getting in the car.
00:40:41MG. It's an MG?
00:40:43Rabbit, can we get a licence plate number?
00:40:45Licence plate number.
00:40:48Jane, you got that?
00:40:49Copy.
00:40:50Red MG.
00:40:51We want owner details and whether it has telematics.
00:40:53Copy that.
00:40:54Telematics is an in-built system
00:40:56which tracks GPS coordinates in real time.
00:41:00But not all vehicles are equipped with this feature.
00:41:04Stay on that vehicle.
00:41:06Confirmed turning heading west.
00:41:10Can you see the traffic?
00:41:11It feels like it's not getting any quieter.
00:41:13Ah, red.
00:41:16Hey, Ben.
00:41:17The red MG that Romany and Chelle's here in
00:41:20is owned by a person called Susan.
00:41:22I've got the details.
00:41:23I'm just going to send those to you right now.
00:41:25Perfect. Thank you, Jane.
00:41:28I think the sooner we just get out of here...
00:41:30Yeah.
00:41:31You're welcome to go back to my place.
00:41:33I'm not in anyone's radar.
00:41:35Yeah, yeah.
00:41:36That might actually be a good idea.
00:41:40Alright, we're good.
00:41:41Confirmed about to lose sight.
00:41:45That vehicle's still heading
00:41:47generally north-west on Western Beach Road.
00:41:50And that's me off target.
00:41:56Can you see it?
00:41:57No, I can't see it anymore.
00:41:58Right, the chopper's run out of fuel.
00:42:00It's disappointing.
00:42:02We had Romany and Chelsea in our crosshairs.
00:42:04We've now lost sight of them.
00:42:05But we will find that red MG.
00:42:07We're going to recover the money.
00:42:09Now, technically, to get us back on that vehicle,
00:42:12telematics would be awesome.
00:42:17Still in Geelong,
00:42:19two teams are headed to the same location.
00:42:23Train station, train station.
00:42:24Where is it?
00:42:25Gold Coast friends Jade and Taylor...
00:42:28Get back into that.
00:42:30...and IT specialist Bobby and daughter Tanisha.
00:42:34Tanisha, Tanisha, stop, stop, stop, stop.
00:42:36Where are you going?
00:42:37The station.
00:42:38They're unaware the hunters are already monitoring
00:42:41Geelong station.
00:42:43Do you want to get changed?
00:42:44Stay, yeah.
00:42:45We're changing into tradies.
00:42:47Get out of it.
00:42:48Geelong is, like, a very known area for...
00:42:50Tradies side, right next to us.
00:42:52I've known Dad since I came out of the womb.
00:42:55Yeah, since you weren't looking at me,
00:42:57I went, like, yeah, look at you,
00:42:59I need to change your shorts.
00:43:03When you just do embarrassing stuff,
00:43:05I kind of just say, Dad, shut it.
00:43:07Dad.
00:43:08Don't run too fast.
00:43:1220 years I've been putting up with you.
00:43:14Do you count the nine months in Mum's stomach?
00:43:16Yeah, I can't even...
00:43:17Did you know me?
00:43:18...the three minutes before that.
00:43:19Ew!
00:43:22Dad.
00:43:23I know, I know.
00:43:24Hey, mate.
00:43:25Tanisha, no, come, walk.
00:43:28Got a lift?
00:43:29Yeah.
00:43:30Are you able to?
00:43:31Can you give us a lift?
00:43:32Can you?
00:43:33Where to?
00:43:34Anywhere towards Melbourne.
00:43:35Anywhere but here.
00:43:36Nah, we can't go that far.
00:43:37Nah, don't worry.
00:43:38I'm not a 19th century Dad.
00:43:40Technology's probably one of my best friends.
00:43:42I love technology.
00:43:43I can disappear within six hours
00:43:45off the grid completely, never to be found.
00:43:47Really?
00:43:48Yes.
00:43:50Are we going in?
00:43:51Yeah.
00:43:52This is the biggest risk, Dad.
00:43:54To travel on public transport in Victoria,
00:43:57the fugitives must purchase a Mikey.
00:44:01If the hunters can get their card number,
00:44:03they'll receive an alert when the Mikey is used.
00:44:11Chief?
00:44:13Yes?
00:44:14CCTV's coming in from the Geelong train station.
00:44:16Yeah, righto, let's have a look at the screen.
00:44:20That's no.
00:44:21No.
00:44:22No.
00:44:23Right.
00:44:27Here we go.
00:44:28Here we go.
00:44:29IVs?
00:44:30Wow.
00:44:31IVs.
00:44:32That's one way of doing it.
00:44:33It looks like Tanisha and Bobby,
00:44:36and they've got the duffel bag.
00:44:38So they've got the cash on them there.
00:44:39So if they've gone to a ticket machine...
00:44:41Yeah.
00:44:42Oh, yeah, righto, yep.
00:44:43Yeah, that's definitely them.
00:44:45They're buying tickets, Ben.
00:44:46We'll put a request in for the ticket sales.
00:44:48That'll be awesome.
00:44:49We know exactly the time they spoke to this teller
00:44:51that purchased Mikey cards
00:44:52so we can get the Mikey card numbers.
00:44:55Hold up a second.
00:44:56There, is that not Jade and Taylor there?
00:44:59In the blue jeans?
00:45:01Yeah.
00:45:02It could be.
00:45:03Oh, my God, yes.
00:45:04So four fugitives at the train station.
00:45:07Tanisha, let's change out of this.
00:45:09Before Tanisha and Bobby tap on with their Mikey cards,
00:45:13they change out of their HIVs...
00:45:16We can take one in Melbourne.
00:45:18That's fantastic.
00:45:19..and are offered a lift away from the station.
00:45:24Frickin' heck, we love you so much.
00:45:29So what made you decide to change your minds?
00:45:32Ah, we'll just, like, why not?
00:45:36Sorry, what's your name?
00:45:37Lucy.
00:45:38Lucy.
00:45:39Jody.
00:45:40Jody.
00:45:41So, father and daughter?
00:45:42Yeah.
00:45:43Father and daughter.
00:45:44Amazing.
00:45:45Yes!
00:45:46Dad and daughter team!
00:45:48Hey, Ben?
00:45:50Yeah?
00:45:51Yeah.
00:45:52We've got CCTV outside the Geelong station.
00:45:56Tanisha and Bobby, they've been picked up in a Ford Ranger.
00:46:00Woo-hoo!
00:46:01I've got the red joke.
00:46:02Yep.
00:46:03It can be seen exiting the station car park
00:46:05and heading north on Mercer Street.
00:46:07Fantastic, great.
00:46:09Find out who the vehicle, the getaway driver is,
00:46:11Tanisha and Bobby, would be awesome.
00:46:13Yeah, leave the Ford Ranger with me, mate.
00:46:15Cheers, mate.
00:46:16So this is great, we've got six people
00:46:19in either a vehicle or a train.
00:46:21This is a really good position to be in.
00:46:23We're right behind them, yeah.
00:46:25We've got Romany and Chelsea into a red MG.
00:46:28We saw Jade and Taylor put the train station.
00:46:31Tanisha and Bobby left the train station
00:46:33and got into a Ford Ranger vehicle.
00:46:35Bobby getting followed there, aren't we?
00:46:37These are three pairs we could have in the next hour.
00:46:50We got the money.
00:46:52The grunt hunters will not be far.
00:46:55It's been 30 minutes since the nine fugitive pairs
00:46:58reunited in Geelong with the money from the bank heist.
00:47:02Literally, we all got over $100,000 each.
00:47:06So, like, yeah.
00:47:08And began to scatter across southern Victoria.
00:47:12Where are we?
00:47:13What the hell is this?
00:47:15Where the hell are we?
00:47:19Excuse me, chief.
00:47:20We've just received CCTV footage
00:47:22from the drop-off zone in Geelong,
00:47:24so I'm going to pop it up on the big screen for you now.
00:47:26Thanks, Liz.
00:47:28Let's have a look.
00:47:29All right, team, let's see what we can see.
00:47:31There we go.
00:47:32The hunters have ordered CCTV within a one-kilometre radius
00:47:37from the abandoned getaway van.
00:47:39OK, looks like the van's now completely empty.
00:47:41Everyone's gone from Yarra Street.
00:47:42We've got two fugitives near a phone box.
00:47:45One running on Eastern Beach Road.
00:47:50Who is that?
00:47:52Looks like Deb.
00:47:53Andy and Deb.
00:47:55Andy Dunt.
00:47:57He's a serious athlete.
00:47:59I saw as well he was a firefighter.
00:48:01Yep.
00:48:02And that's his wife.
00:48:03And he's a bit of a thrill seeker.
00:48:05Yep.
00:48:06Andy's covering his face.
00:48:07Straight into a car park area.
00:48:08Did they go in or did they go to the side?
00:48:12I've cut through here.
00:48:14They've deliberately chosen that path
00:48:19and Andy is covering his face because he knows the camera's there.
00:48:23Cheeky buggers.
00:48:24They have planned this well.
00:48:30All right, heads down for us, Deb.
00:48:35Married couple Andy and Deb
00:48:37have secured a lift out of a shopping centre car park
00:48:40with a stranger.
00:48:42I'm a firefighter.
00:48:43I joined the fire service in 2005.
00:48:46I think that I'm pretty good in a crisis.
00:48:48I think what's going to give our team the edge while we're on the run
00:48:51is our ability to think really quickly and dynamically
00:48:55and just being willing to change plans at the last minute.
00:48:59I think it's super important just to stay away from technology.
00:49:02I mean, like CCTV cameras, getting pinged on, ANPR.
00:49:08By laying low and not being on their radar too much,
00:49:11we should be able to hide from the hunters for quite a while.
00:49:17All right, Deb's a schoolhut.
00:49:19Here you go, sweetheart.
00:49:21Look at you.
00:49:22Just like when you met me.
00:49:23Yeah, that's right.
00:49:25We met at high school.
00:49:26Oh, yeah.
00:49:27Yeah, so we're still together.
00:49:28Type of sweetheart.
00:49:29Is your old uniform?
00:49:30No, no.
00:49:31Actually, I'm 41 now, so...
00:49:34Deb and I met when I was 19 and she was 16 years old.
00:49:38I was skating and she walked past and I thought she's pretty cute.
00:49:42And, yeah, the rest is history.
00:49:44It sure is.
00:49:45All right, maybe we'll just get out here then.
00:49:47For the past 20 years, we've been parents.
00:49:50Now, with the girls moving on and doing their own thing,
00:49:53it's our time to go out and have our adventure.
00:49:55You carry this one now.
00:49:57Thanks, Amanda, so much.
00:49:58Thanks, Amanda.
00:49:59Really appreciate you.
00:50:00See you later.
00:50:01Hopefully we last a while.
00:50:09Do we have anything on Deb and Andy?
00:50:12No, nothing.
00:50:13OK, keep hunting, team, keep hunting.
00:50:16I never thought, coming into work this morning,
00:50:18that I would turn over to the Chief
00:50:20and he would be saying that we are now after bank robbers.
00:50:23It motivates us significantly.
00:50:26Priority from the Chief is still Romany and Chelsea.
00:50:29And we're still right in saying we're waiting on telematics on the MG,
00:50:32aren't we?
00:50:33Waiting on telematics.
00:50:34Fine, OK, roger that.
00:50:36Telematics are crucial to us.
00:50:38It allows us to live-track a vehicle.
00:50:41If Romany and Chelsea remain in that vehicle,
00:50:43it tells us exactly where they are and we're going to catch them.
00:50:46Chief, there are no telematics on that red MG.
00:50:50Roger.
00:50:51OK.
00:50:54What about an address for that vehicle?
00:50:57Yes, we've got that one.
00:50:58I'm keen to maybe get a ground-hunter unit there
00:51:01because if Susan's back and the vehicle's there,
00:51:03it gives us an indication how far they've driven
00:51:05or they might be stupid enough to actually be at Susan's house.
00:51:08100%.
00:51:12Rom, don't forget this cash bag here.
00:51:14I won't.
00:51:20Romany and Chelsea are at Sue's house,
00:51:23swapping out Sue's red MG for her husband's grey Jaguar.
00:51:30And we get a ride in a fancy car.
00:51:32I know. I feel like I'm in James Bond.
00:51:35Sue is taking Romany and Chelsea to her friendly Anne's house
00:51:39where they plan to spend the night.
00:51:43Oh, she really is just round the corner.
00:51:45Yeah, just round the corner.
00:51:46I think the hunters will underestimate us.
00:51:48We're not Victorians, we're not locals,
00:51:50but we have a lot of good farming connections around Victoria.
00:51:54The country spirit is to work together,
00:51:56which is something that I think will be a huge advantage for us, for sure.
00:51:59Poor Sue's had an adventure this morning.
00:52:01Hello. How are you?
00:52:03So good to see you.
00:52:04I'm doing good, likewise.
00:52:05Hi, I'm Chelsea. Thank you so much.
00:52:08This is my best friend, Chels.
00:52:12Sue is my new favourite person.
00:52:14Yeah.
00:52:15She's already better at this than we are.
00:52:17My husband's currently driving the MG with two fake hats on the back.
00:52:26Stand by, stand by. Back it up, back it up, back it up.
00:52:28Eyes on, eyes on.
00:52:38G'day. How are you?
00:52:42Looking for the two fugitives that you had in the car this morning?
00:52:47Whereabouts did you drop them off?
00:52:49I haven't got them anywhere.
00:52:50OK. Do you know where they are?
00:52:52No.
00:52:53So where's Susan?
00:52:55I don't know.
00:52:56So Susan's with them right now?
00:52:58Pretend I don't know.
00:52:59OK. So, Susan, what's the relation of Susan to yourself?
00:53:04What's the relation of Susan to yourself?
00:53:06She's my wife.
00:53:07Your wife. OK. Do you have a contact number for Susan?
00:53:17Hi, it's only me.
00:53:18Just the hunter people here in my garage at the moment.
00:53:23The hunters are in my garage.
00:53:25Oh, shit. We'd better go.
00:53:34Oh, shit. We'd better go.
00:53:36Brom, don't forget this cash bag here.
00:53:38What did you take?
00:53:40Can you tell him not to say anything?
00:53:41Can you tell him not to say anything?
00:53:42Don't say a thing.
00:53:43He's got a lie.
00:53:44He's got a lie.
00:53:46Sue's on the phone now.
00:53:47Hey, Susan, how are you going?
00:53:49Oh, well, thank you.
00:53:50You obviously know the reason we're here, Susan.
00:53:52Yeah, yeah. I've got my name, Sue.
00:53:54Oh, sorry, Sue. Apologies for that.
00:53:56Oh, well, thank you.
00:53:57You obviously know the reason we're here, Susan.
00:53:59Yeah, yeah. I've got my name, Sue.
00:54:01Oh, sorry, Sue. Apologies for that.
00:54:03This morning, I saw the girls,
00:54:05both Romany and Chelsea, in your vehicle.
00:54:08Can I ask, where did you drop them off this morning?
00:54:10Can I ask, where did you drop them off this morning?
00:54:12Um...
00:54:13Um...
00:54:14I took them home.
00:54:15Then I...
00:54:16Then I...
00:54:17I got in my husband's car and...
00:54:18I got in my husband's car and...
00:54:19Yeah, you are.
00:54:20Whereabouts did you drop them off?
00:54:22I brought them to my friend Leanne's house.
00:54:25I brought them to my friend Leanne's house.
00:54:26Great. And do you have the address of that, please, Sue?
00:54:28Great. And do you have the address of that, please, Sue?
00:54:29Okay.
00:54:30Yes, I do.
00:54:31Okay.
00:54:33HQ, Alpha, over.
00:54:35Hey, team, what have you got for us?
00:54:37This morning, Sue picked them up in Geelong.
00:54:41This morning, Sue picked them up in Geelong.
00:54:42She's then brought them to Leanne's house,
00:54:44She's then brought them to Leanne's house,
00:54:45where she is currently there now.
00:54:48Let's get over to that address.
00:54:49Let's get over to that address.
00:54:50Keep on the hunt, keep on the sign.
00:54:51Keep on the hunt, keep on the sign.
00:54:52Let's get a capture.
00:54:53Let's get a capture.
00:54:54Roger that.
00:54:55It's all within the last ten to...
00:54:57minutes to half an hour.
00:54:58minutes to half an hour.
00:54:59Yeah.
00:55:00So we're right behind them. We're really close.
00:55:01I think they're running.
00:55:02I think they're running.
00:55:03Yeah.
00:55:04So two locations they've been to have been compromised,
00:55:07and they know that we're on their doorstep right now,
00:55:10and we're not going to stop, and they've got nowhere to go.
00:55:17I hope she's home.
00:55:18I hope she's home.
00:55:19She normally is.
00:55:20She normally is.
00:55:21Leanne is taking Romany and Chelsea to her close friend Christine
00:55:25in the hope she's willing to house them for the night.
00:55:28So I've got some fugitives here.
00:55:30Fugitives?
00:55:31Fugitives.
00:55:32And we're getting chased by hunters at the moment,
00:55:34and we were meant to be staying at lovely Leanne's house tonight.
00:55:38Would you be all right with letting, like...
00:55:41No.
00:55:42Okay.
00:55:44Fugitives Romany and Chelsea are carrying the bag
00:55:47containing the stolen $103,000.
00:55:51The only thing is we've got our kit bags with Leanne.
00:55:54But in the rush to leave Leanne's house,
00:55:57they forgot their kit bags.
00:55:59So our kit bags are at Leanne's house
00:56:01because that's where we were planning to be tonight,
00:56:04peacefully just kicking back.
00:56:06As part of the game, before going on the run,
00:56:10each fugitive pair may prepare two kit bags
00:56:13filled with camping equipment and essentials.
00:56:16They're like big hiking packs.
00:56:17Big hiking bags.
00:56:19And held by a contact to collect during the run.
00:56:22I think the hunters are at Sue's,
00:56:24and I think very soon they're going to be at Leanne's.
00:56:26They'll go to Leanne's.
00:56:29That could be a great jaguar in the driveway.
00:56:36Yeah, that's a jag there, yeah.
00:56:38Wait, who's that?
00:56:41I reckon that's her.
00:56:42Do you reckon?
00:56:43Yep, I reckon that's her.
00:56:45G'day, Sue.
00:56:46How are you?
00:56:48I'm Marco, this is Luke.
00:56:50Hi.
00:56:51Yeah, how are you?
00:56:52I'm well.
00:56:53Oh, great.
00:56:54Thanks for your time earlier today.
00:56:56That's all right.
00:56:57So we're just following up.
00:56:58You're obviously telling us the truth, you were here.
00:57:00Oh, yeah.
00:57:01Do you mind, can we have a quick look through the house
00:57:03to see where the girls were?
00:57:05Okay, come on.
00:57:06Thanks so much for that, yeah.
00:57:09Come on in.
00:57:10Cool, thank you.
00:57:18So this, do you know who owns that backpack there?
00:57:22They're the girls' backpacks, I think.
00:57:24I don't know that for sure.
00:57:27Chelsea.
00:57:29Okay.
00:57:33Romany.
00:57:34Oh, the other girl's name was Rom.
00:57:39Yeah, right, Chief, so quick hasty search of the house.
00:57:42I've found two backpacks.
00:57:44Now, each backpack has a name.
00:57:46One is Chelsea.
00:57:49And then the next backpack we have here is for Romany.
00:57:54That is absolutely awesome, mate.
00:57:57So they're separated from their gear,
00:57:59they've got no survival mechanism whatsoever by the looks of things.
00:58:02Yeah, I agree, and these bags are heavy.
00:58:05One of them, Romany's, has got a tent on the outside.
00:58:08What do you reckon?
00:58:09A tracker in the bag.
00:58:11Yep, good call.
00:58:12We've got a tracker in the car.
00:58:14Can you also deploy a listening device and a sensory cam there?
00:58:18Let's monitor that over the next couple of days
00:58:20and see where it takes us.
00:58:23This is a vehicle tracker.
00:58:24Hopefully we can slide it into one of their ground mats or something.
00:58:28Do you have any idea where you think Leanne could have taken them
00:58:31when they left here?
00:58:33She could have taken them anywhere.
00:58:35Leanne's got a lot of friends,
00:58:37so there is a group that they call themselves
00:58:39the Wheelhouse Wives of Longs Creek.
00:58:41There's about ten women in there.
00:58:44Ten women, wow.
00:58:45And they are very close.
00:58:48I'm going to put it in there.
00:58:52I'm going to put it in their tent.
00:58:56If they find it while they're sitting up here in the bush,
00:58:59I'll give them the good news.
00:59:02As a hunter force, we need to have quite a lot of tools in our armory.
00:59:06Covert equipment is crucial to these operations.
00:59:09We've got a GPS device,
00:59:12a sensory camera,
00:59:14and the listening device.
00:59:18She could have taken them to any one of those places.
00:59:24This is real-life stuff,
00:59:26and most fugitives on the run don't suspect the technical equipment
00:59:29that we're going to deploy against them.
00:59:32So we're going to head out.
00:59:35Thank you for all your help this afternoon.
00:59:37Enjoy your day.
00:59:38You too.
00:59:39As long as we don't catch them.
00:59:40Yeah, well, we'll see.
00:59:42We've set it up,
00:59:44and now we're just laying wait for Romani and Chelsea.
00:59:48I'm stressed. I'm not going to lie.
00:59:50I'm feeling stressed as hell.
00:59:52We feel like we need to go back to Leanne's house
00:59:56to then get those kit bags before the hunters get there.
01:00:00The important bag.
01:00:15Watch every adrenaline-pumping moment
01:00:19of the thrilling third series of Hunted Australia
01:00:23with full episodes on Ten Play.
01:00:30Now we need to get into our battle rhythm.
01:00:32It's been four hours since the heist at the savings bank of Ballarat,
01:00:37and 18 fugitives went on the run in Geelong...
01:00:40I want these fugitives in the bag.
01:00:43..with the stolen $927,000.
01:00:48I put a request in for the bank
01:00:49to get all the serial numbers of the stolen cash.
01:00:52Yep.
01:00:53Our plan is to track each of these serial numbers
01:00:55of the stolen money.
01:00:56That will lead to a capture.
01:00:57I want every single fugitive in the bag for this robbery.
01:01:01All right, team, let's have a top table.
01:01:03That's chief. That's chief.
01:01:04Let's start with Romani and Chelsea.
01:01:07These are our number-one priority.
01:01:09We believe they're still in the area.
01:01:11We have a sentry cam in place at Leanne's property.
01:01:14We deployed listening device.
01:01:16We have the backpacks with GPSs in them.
01:01:18When they go back for those backpacks, we'll know about it.
01:01:24You know what?
01:01:25I'm happy to pull the pin on the kit bags.
01:01:29You honestly don't want our bags at all.
01:01:32They will be at Leanne's house very shortly
01:01:34if they're not already there.
01:01:37We've decided to pull the pin on our kit bags
01:01:40because it's just too risky.
01:01:42That's true. That's true.
01:01:44We're going to have to wear clothes over and over again
01:01:46and, like, live on the bare minimum.
01:01:49But we have to get the hunters off our tail.
01:01:54I know we've got a lot of people on this board
01:01:56and we are going to get rid of a few of these fugitives today.
01:01:59So we've got Joanna and Lee.
01:02:02That's our wedding.
01:02:04That's our gym.
01:02:07That is a baby.
01:02:09Ellie!
01:02:11But the next fugitive pair we're going to look at
01:02:13is Tanisha and Bobby.
01:02:16I love you, little one.
01:02:17I know. I love you too.
01:02:19Father and daughter means they have a really strong bond.
01:02:22We know they went to Geelong train station.
01:02:25Both purchased Mikey cards.
01:02:27We have their numbers.
01:02:28No movement has been seen on their Mikey cards yet.
01:02:31They were picked up by a Ford Ranger
01:02:33owned by a chap called Jamie.
01:02:36Jamie lives down in Ocean Grove.
01:02:38Team Charlie are down there at the moment.
01:02:41We're looking for some fugitives.
01:02:43Yeah, I've got no idea.
01:02:44I think you do.
01:02:45What, are you going to have a look around, are you?
01:02:47Hey, if we can, that'd be good.
01:02:48Yeah, no worries. If you want, you can have a look around.
01:02:50All right, that's fine.
01:02:51That's fine if we could just have a quick look.
01:02:54So, um, how do you know them?
01:02:57I don't.
01:02:58You don't?
01:02:59What, they just came and approached you?
01:03:00Yeah.
01:03:01OK.
01:03:02When did you drop them off?
01:03:04I can't even think now.
01:03:05Yeah.
01:03:06I've got a bad memory.
01:03:07I've got a bad memory.
01:03:09We haven't got a capture.
01:03:11I want a capture.
01:03:12Yes, Chief.
01:03:13All right, Chief.
01:03:17As day one draws to a close...
01:03:20This is literally all we have.
01:03:22This is our whole life in two bags.
01:03:25..all nine fugitive pairs have held on to their share
01:03:29of the million-dollar prize.
01:03:31So, we've got $103,000.
01:03:33Pretty exciting, but pretty scary.
01:03:35Yeah, pretty scary.
01:03:36How did we get money on us?
01:03:38..and found a safe place to bed down for the night.
01:03:42I'm keen that we've got a bed tonight.
01:03:44Yeah.
01:03:45Today was amazing.
01:03:46Yeah.
01:03:47You did such a good job.
01:03:48Thank you, so did you.
01:03:49Thanks, my girl.
01:04:00On day two of the game,
01:04:02the nine fugitive pairs are spread out across Victoria
01:04:07with IT specialist Bobby and daughter Tanisha
01:04:11in inner-city Melbourne at their friend Josh's house.
01:04:17Clear.
01:04:18They're headed to a Collingwood brewery
01:04:21where Josh's friend has agreed to help them.
01:04:24Getting to the brewery is going to be a bit of a challenge
01:04:27because Josh cannot hire a car
01:04:30because if he does, he's going to have to use an app,
01:04:32use his phone, which is fully traceable.
01:04:36So, we've got to catch public transport.
01:04:39Tanisha and Bobby will need to take two buses to get there.
01:04:44They still have the Mikey cards they purchased yesterday
01:04:48at the Geelong train station.
01:04:50And now it's, like, back in the open.
01:04:53Just don't overthink it, please, honey.
01:04:56Just no over-paranoia.
01:05:06Go ahead.
01:05:15Does it feel good to be moving, at least?
01:05:17Yeah.
01:05:18Just psychologically, it's a little bit more calming.
01:05:23Yeah.
01:05:24Well, you just feel like a sitting duck, don't you?
01:05:31Hey, Ben. Yeah?
01:05:32We've just had a Mikey hit.
01:05:35Card ending in 593.
01:05:37The card tapped on at Flemington Street slash Brunswick Road.
01:05:41So, this is Bobby and Tanisha?
01:05:42This is Bobby and Tanisha.
01:05:44And that is on a bus.
01:05:46And this is now?
01:05:49This is now, yes.
01:05:54Hey, Ben. Yeah?
01:05:55We've just had a Mikey hit.
01:05:59Card ending in 593.
01:06:01So, this is Bobby and Tanisha?
01:06:02This is Bobby and Tanisha.
01:06:04Father, daughter.
01:06:05And that is on a bus.
01:06:08And this is now?
01:06:12This is now, yes.
01:06:14Jane, can we put a request in for you?
01:06:16Yes.
01:06:17We've just had a Mikey hit.
01:06:19Card ending in 593.
01:06:22Jane, can we put a request in for any CCTV on that bus?
01:06:25Yeah, copy that.
01:06:27We know the exact time of the exact bus that it was on,
01:06:30so CCTV shouldn't take too long.
01:06:32OK, ready?
01:06:34While HQ awaits CCTV from the first bus...
01:06:39..IT specialist Bobby and daughter Tanisha
01:06:42are getting ready to board their second bus.
01:06:46Have you looked for cameras?
01:06:47Yeah, no, we're staying out of their sight of camera.
01:06:50They're headed to a Collingwood brewery...
01:06:52There's a bus here.
01:06:53Here comes 246.
01:06:56..to meet their next contact.
01:07:01How many stops did he say?
01:07:03Six.
01:07:07Ben?
01:07:08Yep?
01:07:09We have got CCTV sending it through right now.
01:07:14That is them, guys.
01:07:15That is definitely them.
01:07:16Yeah, that's them.
01:07:18Who's that guy?
01:07:19Passenger or assistant?
01:07:21He interacts with Tanisha, doesn't he, then?
01:07:24Yep, he does.
01:07:25Ben, maybe if he's with them and we associate him,
01:07:27I think we've got a good enough look at his face there
01:07:29to maybe run that through some AI for a positive ID.
01:07:33Facial recognition technology is groundbreaking for us.
01:07:36It's advancing every single day.
01:07:38We can take an image that we identify,
01:07:41either of the fugitive or the network,
01:07:43we can run it through our software
01:07:45and find every single other image
01:07:47that is publicly available in the digital space.
01:07:52Identify them,
01:07:53and we know everything about that person in a matter of seconds.
01:08:00Bus stopping at the next stop.
01:08:05Thank you very much.
01:08:09We've got Bobby and Tanisha's mic.
01:08:11He's tapping off at Gipps Street.
01:08:13Brilliant. Thank you, Jane.
01:08:16Can we canvass that area for more CCTV requests, please?
01:08:19There's a pub on the north side
01:08:21and all the way to the west towards a gym.
01:08:23Yep, on it, Ben.
01:08:24Thank you very much.
01:08:26Bravo, bravo, headquarters.
01:08:29Bravo, Sam.
01:08:31We've now got mic and transactions of when Tanisha and Bobby
01:08:34tapped off at the bus on Gipps Street.
01:08:37I don't think there's any harm in you starting in Wellington Street
01:08:41and working your way back.
01:08:43Bravo, Roger.
01:08:44If they're there, they're done.
01:08:46Woo!
01:08:51Respect.
01:08:52There you go.
01:08:53Thank you, mate.
01:08:54Appreciate it.
01:08:55I love that the first stop you came to was a brewery.
01:08:57That's where I'd be going.
01:08:58If you're a Virginia boy, that's what you do.
01:09:00I would just go straight from brewery to brewery.
01:09:02They'd find me on day two.
01:09:08CCTV is coming in from the Gipps Street.
01:09:11All right, everyone, big screen.
01:09:13Tanisha and Bobby, this is who we're after.
01:09:22Oh, here they are.
01:09:23Yep, that's them.
01:09:26Same backpack as the bus.
01:09:28White trainers, leggings, OK.
01:09:31Ben, this is CCTV footage from West Gipps Street.
01:09:40We haven't sighted Tanisha and Bobby further west.
01:09:46Yeah, we're working our way back to see where they could have stopped.
01:09:52We've got the pub. That'll have cameras.
01:09:55OK, so that's a good place for them to check.
01:10:04Oh, my God.
01:10:06We are getting spoiled.
01:10:10Bravo HQ.
01:10:13Bravo, Sam.
01:10:14We've picked them up on CCTV heading westbound.
01:10:18They crossed over Hoddle Street,
01:10:20continued west onto Gipps Street
01:10:22in the direction of the stomping ground pub.
01:10:26There's no intel to say they went in there,
01:10:28but at least just get eyes on for the minute, please.
01:10:30On our way to get a VF.
01:10:32Nice, mate.
01:10:38You good?
01:10:39Yep.
01:10:42Currently walking along Gipps Street.
01:10:46West of the pub now.
01:10:49Roger that.
01:10:55All right.
01:10:56Bloody hell.
01:10:58I'm just going to try and get down.
01:11:01That's them there, isn't it?
01:11:03Righto.
01:11:04We've got the big screen.
01:11:07Here we go.
01:11:08Go, Bravo. Let's get one in the bag.
01:11:10Yeah, let's get it done, Bravo.
01:11:12Eyes on.
01:11:13Let's go, Zach.
01:11:14Let's go, let's go.
01:11:16Back of the room, Nick. Go right.
01:11:23Eyes are ready.
01:11:24Now we go to Sergio.
01:11:27Go, Sergio.
01:11:28No, no, no, no, no, no!
01:11:30No!
01:11:31No!
01:11:32Yes!
01:11:37Tanisha and Bobby, your time on the run is over.
01:11:40You have been hunted down.
01:11:41No!
01:11:47Amazing.
01:11:48Well done.
01:11:49Well done, Bravo!
01:11:54Bobby and Tanisha, how's your time on the run been?
01:11:57Mate, it's been interesting.
01:11:59How did you get us?
01:12:00We're really good at what we do, mate.
01:12:04It's great to see, you know, father and daughter
01:12:06coming together like this.
01:12:08But I'm sorry to say, your time on the run is over.
01:12:10Thank you, mate.
01:12:16It feels really sweet to get our first capture.
01:12:19Very proud of the team.
01:12:21That was a team effort from everyone.
01:12:23Great work.
01:12:25Look, we've recovered over $100,000.
01:12:28That's a huge win for us.
01:12:31Well done.
01:12:34Guys, these fugitives robbed a bank.
01:12:36I want a clean sweep.
01:12:38No fugitive is making it to extraction.
01:12:50HQ, that's Sparrow One Airborne.
01:12:52The hunters are fired up.
01:12:54Game on.
01:12:55And ready to play.
01:12:57They've got no idea we are this close.
01:12:59Let's ramp it up.
01:13:00Capture pants are on.
01:13:01Capture pants are deployed.
01:13:03But the game of hunted...
01:13:05They got 100 grand.
01:13:06They robbed a bank.
01:13:07Look.
01:13:08Oh, yeah.
01:13:09...has only just begun.
01:13:11Get out of here.
01:13:13Wave it to the hunters.
01:13:14Can the fugitives prove they are smarter?
01:13:17Oh, my God.
01:13:18Let's get out of here.
01:13:19I've spent 20 years in the Navy.
01:13:21Bring it on.
01:13:22Catch me if you can.
01:13:23...stronger...
01:13:24Jesus, is that her?
01:13:25Look at that definition.
01:13:27Very intimidating.
01:13:28She could wreck me.
01:13:30...and faster than the hunters.
01:13:33Have we got one?
01:13:34Let's go.
01:13:35Come on.
01:13:36You've been hunted down.
01:13:37...with more money on the line than ever before...
01:13:40Go, go, go.
01:13:41People are running out.
01:13:42We've got the hut.
01:13:43They're here.
01:13:44...will anyone survive the hunt?
01:13:46They're over there.
01:13:47...will anyone survive the hunt?
01:13:49They're over there.
01:13:50We've totally lost them.
01:13:51Wait.
