A motorcyclist was killed after ramming into the rear of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) which made a hasty turn into the emergency lane on the Penang Bridge on Sunday (Aug 11).

The impact led to the 38-year-old victim being thrown off his bike before hitting the curb of the bridge which led to his death.

00:18Northeast District OCPD ACP Raslam Abdul Hamid said the incident occurred when the 22-year-old
00:24driver of the MPV had swerved into the emergency area to change drivers before hitting the
00:30victim.
00:31Police said the victim died at the scene due to serious injuries, while the car driver
00:36was unharmed.
00:37The driver was arrested but granted police bail pending an investigation of the case
00:43under Section 41, Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous
00:50driving.
00:51The victim's remains have been sent to Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
