Paris Olympics: France face US in women's basketball final

00:00Like the French men's basketball team last night the French women know that
00:05they have a tough task ahead of them if they're going to dethrone the U.S. here
00:09at Bercy Arena. They last played the U.S. in a final back in London in 2012
00:15which they lost. They did though get the bronze in Tokyo three years ago but that
00:19said that the Americans are the overwhelming favorites here today. They
00:24are perhaps even more unbeatable and invincible than the men
00:28because they are looking for their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
00:33They haven't lost a game at the Olympics since 1992. It's one of the longest
00:38winning streaks in Olympics history. France on the other hand had the one
00:43loss against Australia in the group stages. Other than that they've been
00:46looking pretty strong but the USA have really coasted through this entire
00:50tournament. They've won all their games by double digits. The French pulling
00:55off an impressive win against the European champions of Belgium to put
00:59their spot in the final 81 to 73. But this U.S. team is going to be very
01:04intimidating because every player on the roster has either already won an
01:08Olympics or is a world champion. So a pretty intimidating one for the French
01:12even if they will have the home crowd on their side. And just a little one, a
01:15little fact for you Jenny, this is quite a big matchup for the Americans because
01:19they are currently one gold medal behind China in the medal table. China
01:24are currently top of that medal table with 40 gold medals. The U.S. have 39 and
01:29will overtake them if they get one more gold medal because they have far
01:33more medals overall in the total which would see them go into first position in
01:37the medal table.
