00:00Former Youth and Sports Minister Kairi Jamaluddin says the jury made a mistake in upholding
00:07National Track Cycling Champion Azizul Hasni Awang's disqualification in the Men's Cairn
00:13event at the Paris Olympics last night.
00:17In an Instagram story, Kairi said there was a clear precedent that a warning could have
00:22been given instead of an outright disqualification.
00:26He cited the Men's Cairn final at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where there were two false
00:32starts.
00:33He said the first instance involved UK's Jason Kenney and Azizul Hasni, whereas the second
00:38instance involved German rider Joachim Eilers.
00:42All three were judged to have overtaken the derby, a motorized bicycle used as a pacer.
00:49Kairi claimed the judges would not dare disqualify Western cyclists, highlighting that all three
00:54were given a warning but were allowed to start the final.
00:58Kenney won gold in the event and Azizul Hasni, dubbed the pocket rocket man, took home bronze.
