00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:04It is Amelia.
00:05I hope you are fine.
00:07Star Wars Tales of the Empire brilliantly expands the Star Wars saga between the movies
00:12and TV shows, making it incredibly difficult to rank each episode from worst to best.
00:18Like its predecessor, Star Wars Tales of the Jedi, the animated series is split into two
00:23arcs, one focusing on Ahsoka's Morgan Elspeth and the other continuing the story of former
00:29Jedi Parva Barriss Offee from Star Wars The Clone Wars.
00:32Through outstanding animation, exciting action, engaging character drama, and tragic consequences,
00:38Tales of the Empire tells a thoroughly compelling story in only six short episodes.
00:43However, the series' limitations and the placement of certain events mean that some Tales of
00:48the Empire episodes don't have as great an impact as others.
00:52The best episodes succeed in expanding the larger Star Wars timeline, contribute to their
00:57respective arc, and manage to stand on their own merits.
01:01From the height of the Clone Wars to the reign of the New Republic, here is how all six episodes
01:06of Tales of the Empire rank from worst to best.
01:09Both Tales of the Empire and Tales of the Jedi are composed of episodes that fill in
01:14the gaps between the other movies and TV shows.
01:17However, the best episodes manage to tell a powerful story that can stand on its own
01:22or at least contribute to the three-episode arc.
01:25Tales of the Empire Episode 2, The Path of Anger, has to stand out moments, Morgan Elspetha's
01:31incredible fight with Rulha and her conversation with Admiral Thrawn, which are especially
01:35great for fans of Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka.
01:39Tales of the Empire Episode 3, The Path of Hate, is the perfect end to Morgan Elspetha's
01:44arc that perfectly transitions into the Mandalorian season 2 and Ahsoka.
01:48While not as visually impressive as some of the other episodes, the writers make up for
01:53this with compelling dialogue that slowly builds tension until everything erupts into
01:58violence.
01:59The needless death of so many is tragic and the stakes are clear, allowing the episode
02:03to stand on its own merits.
02:05Of course, the episode's place in Morgan's arc and how it fits into the larger Mandoverse
02:10timeline is also impressive.
02:12Morgan's story comes full circle by having her become the very evil that destroyed her
02:17people, burning down the forest as the droid army once left her home in flames.
02:22The brief communication with Bokatan Kryze is a nice touch that sets up Ahsoka Tano's
02:27arrival in The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, Chapter 13, The Jedi.
02:32Tales of the Empire Episode 1, The Path of Fear, easily has the best animation of the
02:37entire series and the most tragic plot.
02:39General Grievous has never looked as good in animation as he does in Tales of the Empire
02:45and his duel with Morgan Elspetha's mother was perfectly choreographed.
02:49Other impressive moments include Morgan shading tears at the sight of Carnage, the Mountain
02:54Clan leader summoning a shining bubble of Force magic and the final shot of Morgan standing
02:59in front of the flames.
03:00While the animation is astounding, The Path of Fear is a perfect introduction to Morgan
03:05Elspeth and the loss that will define the rest of her life.
03:09Her refusal to give in to grief shows her inner strength and her desire to help others
03:13avoid the fate of her people is admirable.
03:16But her obsession with preventing further loss leads her to make rash decisions.
03:20It perfectly foreshadows how she will hurt everyone she claims to help and that her story
03:25will end with more pain and loss.
03:27Barriss Offee's return was the most highly anticipated aspect of Tales of the Empire
03:33and Episode 4, Devoted, didn't fail to deliver.
03:36The beginning of the episode was a clever and effective parallel to Barriss' story in
03:40The Clone Wars Season 5, where she denounced the Jedi Order and orchestrated a bombing
03:45at the temple.
03:46Having Barriss sense the deaths of so many Jedi and witness the explosions at the temple
03:51shows her initial desires carried to their natural conclusion, poetically tormenting
03:56her as she is helpless to do anything about it.
03:59The rest of the episode effectively covers Barriss' initiation into the Inquisitorious,
04:04highlighting her reservations about joining but justifying her ultimate decision to do
04:09so.
04:10This makes it believable when Barriss boasts to Darth Vader at the end but also sets up
04:14her redemption in the next two episodes, perfectly kicking off a compelling arc.
04:19Complimented by the return of Jason Nisax as the voice of the Grand Inquisitor and a
04:24haunting final shot, Tales of the Empire Episode 4 assures viewers that Barriss Offee's return
04:29was well worth the wait.
