A listeria outbreak linked to Boar’s Head deli meats has resulted in three deaths and 43 illnesses across multiple states, according to the CDC. The latest fatality occurred in Virginia, with previous deaths in New Jersey and Illinois. The outbreak, which began in late May, led to Boar’s Head recalling 7 million pounds of deli meats, including liverwurst, ham, and salami. The recall was expanded after listeria was found in liverwurst samples from Maryland and New York. Boar’s Head faces lawsuits in Missouri and New York. Consumers are advised to discard or return the recalled products and sanitize their refrigerators to prevent contamination.
